"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Beane Counter

Read anything about “Moneyball” lately?

I haven’t seen the movie yet but I did read this article on Billy Beane in the New York Times Magazine.

And over at The Atlantic, Allen Barra has a critical essay on Michael Lewis’ book.

Detroit holds the tiebreaker over Texas, but Texas is 1 game ahead of Detroit. Not sure whom I want to face in the first round.

1) Let me help you, then. You'd rather the Yanks face Texas.

Ho-Ho! Une proc-lama-syon! Texas scares me. All I can think of is Nolan Ryan, cattle prods, and hard country livin'.

Also, this just hit me: Ugh, fuckin' TBS.

Pining for the days when I could follow the playoff with Scooter, White and Messer.

[2] Thanks. Yeah, Detroit has a fearsome 1-2.

It's Dellin Betances tonight.

[5] Music to my ears. I'm so glad to know there are folks who still remember that awesome broadcast team. I sure do miss the Scooter and Bill White.

[7] And Frank Messer had a silver voice. Remember how Scooter would always call Bill White, "White", but Bill would call him "Scooter?"

And Scooter would call people, especially White, a "huckleberry."

Yes, they don't make em like that anymore.
