I admit I hadn't thought about Branyan, and Betemit is a very viable option, too. (He's only 30, as well, as Megdal points out.) Both can give Teix a day off at first, too.

My guess is the market for DH types took a short term uptick with V Mart going down. Tigers could take one, maybe even two of these guys off the market, or they may go the bigger option with Pena. Pena continues to be way undervalued, even in a long past Moneyball world, since the low BA stiocks out. But his obp and ops remain very solid. We can't afford him, but Tigers possibly can.

Tigers may also decide to muddle through first half in a weak, weak Central, and pick up a bat at the deadline for the playoffs.

Hoss....? Hoss....?
IS THAT REALLY you?
Dude... where have you been????

Forget Pena. 99% sure he's off the market soon, and he is too expensive. Whomever we get, I lean twoards someone who offers more then just a bat. Our roster is not that flexible... I think a Damon, who can play the OF in an emergency and still runs well, or a Betemit, who can be another BUC (albrit, a poor one), is more valuable, then a 'True Outcome', no glove type.

I'm leaning towards JD, but he will need to settle for $3m.
