Smoke Up, Johnny

Pack of butts is $12 if not more these days. It’s hard to believe.

Check out this photo gallery of jocks and their smokes over at SI.com.

Wow..it's $4 here and that's AFTER a tax hike. Having the govt own half of Japan Tobacco keeps the price down.

AB, I read that Joe D bio by you recommeneded, it was incredible. He used to smoke between innings!

It's funny, I have never had any idea what cigarettes cost. For all I know, 12 bucks sounds reasonable. No clue.

However, I do love a good stoogie. Different league of course. It's a crime that you can't buy Cubans in America. You can pay 15 bucks for ONE Cohiba in Tokyo. Romeo & Jullieta's are upwards from 6 bucks each. Cafe Creme Aroma cigarillos are about 5 bucks a tin.

Tried to check out the smoking photos, but I got distracted by the smoking hot Chicago Blackhawks Ice Crew. Damn, hockey has changed.

Lots of golfers, which is not surprising, considering the cardiovascular requirements of the sport. But a boxer? Wow.

I do a lot of road racing in Japan, and it's amazing how often I spy Japanese runners having that pre-race (!) or post-race butt. Hel-LO!

Nice pics. I don't think I've ever seen that one of Coach Bryant. That was before his Alabama days and before his trademark Houndstooth hat...but he always had that pack of unfiltered Chesterfields in his pocket. Makes you wonder how much better some of those folks could have been if they hadn't smoked so much.

[6] A lot of athletes way back when pitched for cigarettes on the theory that smoking improved lung function.

Holy sh*t! Really? They were smoking in the dugouts as recently as last year?

I quit smoking in 2006 when the prices started going up here in NY to around $7. There's certain newsstands around the city I've seen them upwards of close to $13. But there's still those who are willing to pay it.
