Pulp Fiction

Do the Steinbrenner’s want to sell the Yanks? This story suggests perhaps. Lonn Trust says the report is fiction.

Jon Heyman tweeted: steinbrenner: “i just read the daily news story. it is complete fiction. me and my family have no intention to sell the yankees  and expect it to be in the family for years to come.” (end of hal steinbernner statement)

COULD the team get sold? Sure, it's worth a mint and everything is for sale for the right price.

But this story reeks of trolling, anonymous sourcing, and a whole lot of qualifying verbs. Bill Madden has "heard" from "some insiders" that the Steinbrenners "could explore" selling the team. You basically could've written that story at any point...well, ever really.

I'm not dumb enough to suggest that they'll never sell, but Madden has pulled this shit too many times for me to take it seriously.

Didn't read the article, but anything worth $3B might be for sale. Some of the minority owners with the slimmest pieces of the pie would probably like that a lot.

If the Brothers are businessmen, they have to troll for an offer. The mkt is out of whack right now (if the Dodgers go for 2B, and the Cubs for a B, the Yanks might go for 3, 4, or even 5B). But...... should things begin to go south with our beloved team, and they enter a spell of non-playoff years, the value might drop 50% or more. OTOH, if the the SB's view the Yanks as the family business to be handed down generation to generation, they may say, WTH and ignore any offers.
