The trailer for that movie looks hideous. Well, no, its nice to look at, but it shows that Baz Luhrmann has probably never actually *read* The Great Gatsby. For some reason, movie makers keep mistaking it for a love story.

1) Maybe that's the way they are marketing it. That said, I've never cared for Luhrmann.

And Luhrmann thinks everything boils down to a love story.

4) The symbolism is heavy-handed enough in the book, I hate to imagine what Luhrmann does.
