Roger Angell won the Spink Award. Which must beg the question...WHAT THE HELL TOOK SO LONG?!

1) Ask Marvin. At least Angell is still alive.

here's a partial list of people who got The Spink before Roger Freakin' Angell:

- Bill Madden

- Tracy Ringolsby

- Murray Chass

I could keep going but I'm gonna go bang my head on my desk instead.

So here's an interesting thing:

http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/12/10/robinson-cano-would-have-taken-5-million-less-to-re-sign-with-the-yankees/

My take-away isn't "Cano would've taken less to stay with the Yankees", even though that technically may be true. My takeaway is that he wasn't really budging off the number he wanted...which is absolutely, 100% his right.

So if the Yanks had offered 8 years for $200M, which is (I think we can all agree) a great offer, they still would've been $35M short. That HAS to make this somewhat easier to swallow for some people.

Rany & Joe's The Baseball Show podcast had a great breakdown on why the Cano deal is good for the M's. Worth a listen.
