Looking at his face, it's hard to wish him ill, but I am really feeling a deluge tonight.

2 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 5:35 pm

So we'll get no hit, right?

3 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 5:39 pm

Hector Noesi has a highly anagrammable name. The best is probably "Nice Hooters". But each of his names is a good one-word anagram of its own.

4 thelarmis   ~  May 23, 2014 7:05 pm

nice hOOters wins!!

hooray ; )

5 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 7:10 pm

Everything about Nosei's numbers scream "game of his life tonight"

6 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 7:14 pm

Cap'n with a hit. Noesi is no Sales

7 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 7:18 pm

McCann can!

8 thelarmis   ~  May 23, 2014 7:19 pm

Mac!!!

9 coleman42   ~  May 23, 2014 7:21 pm

The offense is back!

10 coleman42   ~  May 23, 2014 7:22 pm

I always liked Noesi, remember his great changeup striking out lots of guys. Didn't see that in first inning...

11 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 7:26 pm

Where exactly was Brian Roberts positioned for that there ground ball to second base?

12 coleman42   ~  May 23, 2014 7:26 pm

Robbie would have...

13 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 7:30 pm

[12] Roberts would have if he wasn't playing left first base. I'll say it again. Yankees are the worst positioned team in baseball

14 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 7:33 pm

Oh fer...

15 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 23, 2014 7:34 pm

Catch the fucking ball! E3!

16 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 7:35 pm

Oh Jesus.

17 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 7:35 pm

Okay, what the fuck is going on here? Jesus Christ.
Catch the goddam ball, somebody, please.

18 coleman42   ~  May 23, 2014 7:35 pm

Good analysis by Flash on WP

19 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 7:36 pm

Thank you.

So all we have to do is make them hit the ball to the outfield.

20 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 7:36 pm

Yankees feel sorry for Hector and want him to have a run too.

Brett!

21 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 7:37 pm

[17] Kuroda got five outs that inning.

22 MSM35   ~  May 23, 2014 7:46 pm

Can we please get rid of Brian Roberts and Kelly Johnson? Time to go and live comfortably for the rest of their lives.

23 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 7:47 pm

That's how you do it Kelly

24 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 7:48 pm

Much better

25 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 7:49 pm

At the Trop, the Sox got a lead-off double in the fifth, then Chris Archer struck out two to get to Papi. And Maddon has decided to walk him.
In a 0-0 game in the fifth inning.
Interesting. Pretty insulting to Mike Napoli.

26 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 7:50 pm

Napoli lines out hard to short to end the inning.

Maddon is a genius.

27 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:00 pm

That was ball for, Teix. Chin-level.
I thought Teix never swung at ball four.

28 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 8:00 pm

Bah, way to swing at ball four.

29 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 8:01 pm

[27] That's one McCann looking Tesh ...

30 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 23, 2014 8:07 pm

[17] rather profane professor.
Friday night Yankees! No hockey distractions, no impossible pitcher (sale); tonight the Yankees will ***.

31 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:07 pm

[29] Jeez.
I'm trying to watch two games. I lost track.

32 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:08 pm

Chris Archer has shut out the Crimson Hose for six innings. Took him 120 pitches.

33 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 8:08 pm

[31] Sure, just hard to mistake the loaf pincher for ... well, anyone else.

;)

34 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:11 pm

Hm, but shouldn't that have been fielded?
Right, as Flash says, KJ "does not look comfortable at first base".

35 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 8:12 pm

Kelly Johnson at first is not working

36 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 23, 2014 8:12 pm

Holy hell, Johnson! You suck ass at 1st. Sigh...

37 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 8:13 pm

And there you go, the inanity of the basis of the argument of folks like Flaherty: "I applaud the fact you're playing 160 out of every 162 games a year because you're not injuring yourself running like a madman on every routine groundball, I just won't say it, because you're not making it *look* like you're making an "acceptable" effort."

38 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:13 pm

Hoo boy.
Loaded for Dunn.

39 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 8:14 pm

Oh, man ... is *this* going to be that inning for Kuroda? The one he has each inning where seems unable to keep himself from losing the fucking plot???

40 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:15 pm

Gulp. 2-0 to Dunn. Surprised he was able to lay off those.

41 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 23, 2014 8:15 pm

Hiro getting pinched.

42 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 8:16 pm

[39] Err, the inning each game ...

43 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:17 pm

Whew.

44 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 8:17 pm

Phew!

45 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 8:17 pm

[37] I'm really not a big fan of the jog to first, but I can specifically recall a time Cano did it and it mattered (he somehow lost a footrace to Todd Jones to end the game).

The fact that I can only think of one is probably an indication that it usually wasn't the end of the world.

46 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 8:18 pm

And ... ... EXHALE.

47 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:19 pm

[42] [43] This is a regular thing we have, huh?

48 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:19 pm

Uh, I meant [43] [44].

49 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 8:19 pm

I say Mussina

50 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 8:20 pm

[48] Good! Because I was VERY confused by [47]!

51 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 23, 2014 8:21 pm

[37] Perception is reality. The players call MLB, the Show. There has to be some sensitivity by a player to how it looks.

52 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 8:23 pm

[47] Yup.

I remember two times when Mark ran hard out on routine pop flies and wound up on second when the ball was dropped. On the other hand, there's a reason we're missing Frankie brains right now

53 coleman42   ~  May 23, 2014 8:23 pm

I am not related to Kelly Johnson, but I must say that, for him, this game is an aberration. Seems he's played decently earlier in the season at 1st. Since when do Banterers condemn a Yankee for one bad game?

54 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 23, 2014 8:25 pm

There is no Modamn reason a professional athlete should be excused for not being able to perform four 90 foot sprints per game. It infuriates me. imho.

55 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 8:26 pm

Ouch!

56 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 8:27 pm

They showed that?

57 coleman42   ~  May 23, 2014 8:29 pm

I am now rooting for Kelly J to hit a home run here.

58 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:30 pm

Chris Archer took 120 pitches to cruise through six innings. He's replaced by Jake McGee, who retires the Red Sox in the seventh on six pitches.

59 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:32 pm

[57] Will you settle for a walk?

60 coleman42   ~  May 23, 2014 8:35 pm

[59] yes thanks!

61 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 8:36 pm

It is nice that the Yankees have settled into the usual ineptitude against the awful Noesi

62 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 23, 2014 8:37 pm

I'd love to get to Omaha for the CWS one of these days.

63 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 8:38 pm

Someone on the field?

64 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 8:40 pm

[52] Forget that ... all you need to remember is that the Loaf Pincher scored on Luis Castillo's dropped pop-up to 2nd ... from 1st ... on a routine 3rd out in the 9th ... because ... he ran as hard as he could on a "nothing" play ... because.

I might bitch and moan about Tesh sometimes, but I'll NEVER forget *that* play ...

65 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 8:40 pm

Ah yes, the Ryan incident

66 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 8:41 pm

[64]

I was there. :)

67 MSM35   ~  May 23, 2014 8:41 pm

Kelly Johnson seems like a fine gentleman. He is just not very good at baseball anymore. Same goes for Brian Roberts. Cash signed them because he was desperate for infielders. Hard to watch.

68 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:49 pm

Gawd.
Happy Shitty Defense Day.

69 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 23, 2014 8:49 pm

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....... Robbie, oh ROBBIE!

70 coleman42   ~  May 23, 2014 8:49 pm

Err, maybe Kelly should go...

71 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 8:49 pm

Aw crap.
Only 3 runs off Noesi?

72 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 8:49 pm

Its time to take Kelly Johnson out of the game

73 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:49 pm

Yeah, I think Kuroda would have a shutout if Teixeira were playing first. Save maybe twenty pitches, too.

74 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 8:50 pm

GRRRRRR. STABBY, STABBY!!!

75 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 23, 2014 8:50 pm

For fuck's sake. Posada could play a better first base than Johnson.

76 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:52 pm

Hiroki was thinking about running over to first base with the ball himself, I believe.

77 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 23, 2014 8:52 pm

And Johnson just muffed the end of inning ball from the dugout.

78 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 8:52 pm

[72] It's time to take Kelly Johnson ... behind the barn, and tell him about "the rabbits" ...

79 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:53 pm

I can't believe they've only played four innings. Seems like six.

80 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 23, 2014 8:55 pm

[79] You can put on the board......OI! (In my best Hawk Harrelson voice of course)

81 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 23, 2014 8:56 pm

[67] a Kelly Johnson/Brian Roberts unearned run given up. But in the case of Roberts, he was a fine player a few years ago who struggled recovering from two severe concussions (one self administered ). For $2M, there is not much of a downside playing him, and he has shown a few moments lately returning to form.

82 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 8:56 pm

And now no one can hit Hector Noesi

83 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 8:59 pm

Very positive strikeout for Ellsbury.

84 coleman42   ~  May 23, 2014 8:59 pm

Has Hector thrown a changeup yet?

85 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 9:00 pm

He hasn't called that pitch all night

86 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 23, 2014 9:01 pm

That's a horrible strike 3 call. Yeesh. This is the first game I've been able to banter in a while and I'm full of complaints. lol....

87 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 9:05 pm

[86] We kicked them in the teeth in the first, and then went to bed. Grumble

88 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 9:07 pm

Eh. We've had a bunch of base runners since the first, but no money.

89 rbj   ~  May 23, 2014 9:10 pm

Aw fuck!

90 RIYank   ~  May 23, 2014 9:10 pm

Oh well.

That lead held up for a few innings.

91 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 9:11 pm

This is an embarrassment

92 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 9:11 pm

[39] Nope. Turns out that was THIS inning.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

93 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 9:13 pm

Girardi should rip Johnson out of the game while he's at it

94 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 23, 2014 9:14 pm

Dang, a boring now shitty game. It's a long season...

95 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 9:16 pm

Really, I thought winning less than five games in Chicago made this trip a failure. Winning less than four would make it a disaster.

96 cult of basebaal   ~  May 23, 2014 9:18 pm

The Captain ... ain't quite dead yet!!!

Still ... sigh.

97 MSM35   ~  May 23, 2014 9:20 pm

Anyone surprised that Joe is going for it by using Del. this early. He still believes in this offense. Hope he is right.

98 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 9:20 pm

ITS FUCKING HECTOR NOESI. EVERYONE ELSE IN BASEBALL IS CRUSHING HIM.

99 coleman42   ~  May 23, 2014 9:23 pm

Hector just threw a changeup to Solarte...

100 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 9:25 pm

Unbelievable.

"Yankees should be proud about developing all these bullpen arms!"

Yeah, who needs starters or position players?

Why are you guys so negative? I feel like I joined the "Bronx Bitchers" instead of Banterers.

117 MSM35   ~  May 23, 2014 10:24 pm

Good at bat by Mr. Roberts. Would have preferred a bunt though. Will they walk Gardner to get to Jeter?

118 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 23, 2014 10:25 pm

I'm still in shock that Brendan Ryan comes into play 1B while Jeter stays at SS..madness.

119 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 23, 2014 10:25 pm

[115] I checked out for an hour. Everyone here is passionate about the Yankees. And when they are shitting the bed no one's shy about venting. : ) The bitching is part of the action.

120 MSM35   ~  May 23, 2014 10:31 pm

That was a poorly executed inning. They really have to do something about this offense. No power and little speed. That is not negativity just the reality of the 2014 Yankees. Hope they can hang on.

121 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 10:39 pm

Joe Girardi can't figure out why you would put in a pinch runner and have him run. He's on the top step screaming "You're supposed to wait for a gapper!"

122 thelarmis   ~  May 23, 2014 10:48 pm

Hammered. (Kinda)

123 thelarmis   ~  May 23, 2014 11:00 pm

124 Mattpat11   ~  May 23, 2014 11:01 pm

Free baseball. But time isn't free and I can't watch the extra[s].

KJ ran for Solo? GI Joe and his 'moves'...

Danks must be ticked off. Pitches a great game and gets a no decision.

[168] Shoulda stayed.

Also, the dumb pinch run move didn't cost us (because Solarte's spot didn't come up again and Kelly didn't have to field a ball).

191 thelarmis   ~  May 24, 2014 10:12 pm

I did end up staying! Watched the Hamma nail the pale hose on my MLB.tv in my awesome new den! : )
