Starting Fresh

My daughter turned one last week. She has been on this planet for exactly one Masahiro Tanaka loss. Today’s not the day for another.

I would like to have a Tanaka card from Japan. I’ve been there a couple of times now, and I always grab a few packs of cards to bring home “for the kids” but I went back through them this morning and nope, no Tanaka. Here are a couple of cool-looking ones.

Another missed opportunity in 1st inning...

Afternoon all. Dogs to park, lawn mowed, bathroom cleaned. Now a day of leisure.

3 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 1:42 pm

C'mon Brett. Table is set

4 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 1:44 pm

Note to DJ: keep the line moving

8 coleman42   ~  May 25, 2014 1:47 pm

Jeez I actually clapped with Jeter single!

9 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 1:47 pm

Derek. Only one?

10 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 1:48 pm

Phew?

11 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 1:49 pm

Phew!

12 coleman42   ~  May 25, 2014 1:50 pm

4 is not enough

13 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 2:21 pm

More runs please

14 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 2:26 pm

Derek with a triple!

15 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 2:27 pm

And scores! At least he's listening

16 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 2:55 pm

Beckett has a no-no through 7.

17 coleman42   ~  May 25, 2014 3:01 pm

Yes, it's on MLB channel, thru 8 no-no.

18 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 3:02 pm

Through 8

19 coleman42   ~  May 25, 2014 3:05 pm

This is my kind of game. Yanks go ahead early, then gradually add more runs through the afternoon.

20 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 3:05 pm

Oh good, another run.

21 coleman42   ~  May 25, 2014 3:10 pm

I'm watching Beckett 9th inning, back later...

22 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 3:11 pm

one down

23 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 3:12 pm

Two down.

24 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 3:19 pm

Three down! No hitter.

25 coleman42   ~  May 25, 2014 3:22 pm

128 pitches later, Beckett gets his first no-hitter.

26 coleman42   ~  May 25, 2014 3:23 pm

Last Dodger no-hitter: Nomo in 1996!

27 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 3:40 pm

Aw, Red Sox going to lose ten straight?

28 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  May 25, 2014 3:48 pm

Glad Joe took out Tanakasan. Enough pitches for today.

29 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  May 25, 2014 3:53 pm

Thank you Adam. Watching the Sox TV feed. Announcers are so into "we"... as in, they have 6 and we have one.

30 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 3:56 pm

Roberts gets that run back.

31 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  May 25, 2014 3:57 pm

I'm liking Brian. Is it heresy to call him Robbie?

32 coleman42   ~  May 25, 2014 4:05 pm

[31] Nice, but yes.

33 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 4:10 pm

Ten straight losses for Boston.

34 coleman42   ~  May 25, 2014 4:16 pm

Is it my imagination, or is Tex getting a lot more walks than usual?

35 RIYank   ~  May 25, 2014 4:22 pm

Hi all.
[33] Yes, delightful.
[34] I don't think so -- when he's going right he walks a whole lot. So back to Good Normal, I'd say.

36 coleman42   ~  May 25, 2014 4:25 pm

I looked up Tex BB percentage. Career thru 2013 is 11% BB/PA. 2014 is 13%, though small base.

37 RIYank   ~  May 25, 2014 4:28 pm

[36] Wow, okay, that really is high, 13%. That would be as many walks as in his walkiest seasons -- he had 97 in 2008 and 93 in 2010.

38 RIYank   ~  May 25, 2014 4:28 pm

Happy Win!

39 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  May 25, 2014 4:29 pm

Sox announcer: Tanaka has a chance to be real good. Duh.Good win.

40 rbj   ~  May 25, 2014 4:30 pm

Nice win.

41 coleman42   ~  May 25, 2014 4:35 pm

A"comfortable" win, no real drama.

42 jjmerlock   ~  May 25, 2014 4:40 pm

That was exceedingly pleasant.

[0] I'll see if I can find one around. Must be pretty pricy now. I bought one pack of cards for my daughter several years ago. Aside from my Yankee brainwarshing, she's not really into baseball, so they may have ended up in the trash.

Actually, I will be in Jersey on June 5, not that it makes a difference.
