Okay! Pretty good inning, Chase.

2 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 1, 2014 12:20 pm

Hughes throwing, 94-95. Where was that the past couple of years?!?!

3 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 1, 2014 12:21 pm

Ah, Jeter robbed.

4 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 12:21 pm

Thief!

5 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 1, 2014 12:24 pm

Also, good for Phil Hughes. I missed it, but Michael Kay was saying that the crowd didn't really respond to him at all. No boos, no cheers, just like any other pitcher. That's fucked up. You gotta cheer the guy, he tried hard as a Yankee. His stuff looks better now than it has in years. I wish him well in Minnie.

And also hope he eventually gives up a few homers and loses today.

Good: no runs, no balls hard hit.
Bad: 35 pitches over the two innings.

7 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 12:41 pm

Huuuuuuuughes!

Just kidding, kid. We love ya.

8 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 12:42 pm

Oh, man!
I bet Phil had his heart in his stomach...

9 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 1, 2014 12:44 pm

Holy cow, that was an amazing double play by the Twins second baseman. That's in that guy's personal highlight reel.

10 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 12:53 pm

Good no more challenges for the Twinkies

11 MSM35   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:00 pm

Remember they said Phil was a fly ball pitcher in the wrong stadium. With this Yankee infield defense it is the only way to survive.

12 thelarmis   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:04 pm

Cy Hughes.

Sigh.

13 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:15 pm

Way to make 'im Chase.

14 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:15 pm

[12] [13] See what I did there? I followed your homophone lead!

15 thelarmis   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:19 pm

[14] in a sea of comments, eye see what yew did!

16 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:19 pm

Gritner!

Now cash that in.

17 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:19 pm

Yay!
Hughes'd him.

18 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:21 pm

[15] Si!

19 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:21 pm

Cap'n comes through.

20 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:22 pm

Here's the more familiar Phil Hughes.

21 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:25 pm

Lame.

22 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:27 pm

OK, got one in so far.

23 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:27 pm

Adequate.

24 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:29 pm

Ugh.

Robinson Cano is hitting .327. Just in case anyone was wondering.

25 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:50 pm

Mmmm, Betances.

26 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 1:52 pm

Well, I would have let Chase start the fifth, but damn that was good to watch.

Only really, Betances should be pitching in higher-leverage situations.

27 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:00 pm

Betances is another pitcher I just love watching pitch. We have some holes in the rotation, but we have several guys who are just fun to watch pitch.

28 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:03 pm

Wow. Five more Ks.

29 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:03 pm

N.A.S.T.Y.

30 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:04 pm

wow, i mean, this guy is just awesome.

31 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:04 pm

Good lord.

I wanna go to a game when he pitches.

32 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:09 pm

Not a strike. Phil the nibbler getting the call!

33 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:12 pm

[32] He might be nibbling, but he's going to go eight innings easy.

34 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:17 pm

[33] Oh I know. It's driving me crazy. He should be at 160 pitches this late in the game. I don't wish him ill but it annoys me that he seems to have righted the ship so quickly after leaving. Something wrong with our pitching coaching? Or was it really just that he needed new scenery?

35 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:22 pm

[34] No idea. He might be kind of jazzed up for his YS return.

36 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:22 pm

Scissorhands!

37 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:25 pm

Excellent work.

38 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:25 pm

ok, one more inning! Let's get some insurance runs!

39 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:27 pm

A little insurance please.

40 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:33 pm

Safe.

41 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:34 pm

Ooooh.
Maybe not.

42 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:35 pm

Damn

43 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:36 pm

Tough call to overturn. I think what makes it hard to tell is that his hand is sort of to the side of the base. I think he did that to not injure himself but the results is it's not clear if he touches the base until after what might have been the initial point of contact.

44 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:36 pm

Well, this nail can be beaten with a hammer anyhow.

45 newbs   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:37 pm

Why does he still insist on sliding into first?

46 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:39 pm

Motherfucker. : (

47 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:39 pm

Fuckit!

48 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:39 pm

oh fuck

49 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:39 pm

Fuck.

50 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:40 pm

Wow, four straight 'fuck's!

51 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:40 pm

And no decision for Whitley.

52 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:41 pm

[50] haha. this is why i love the banter.

53 MSM35   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:45 pm

Read where the Yanks were the only team without a walkoff win. Good day for it.

54 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:46 pm

ok, that's two. get one more and let's win this in the bottom of the 9th.

55 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:48 pm

Uh oh.
Although those pitches were very close.

56 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:48 pm

Hughes has 100 pitches. He could easily pitch the bottom of the 9th.

This top of the 9th sucks.

57 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:49 pm

Yikes.
Come on, David, it's Brian Dozier! Strikes!

58 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:50 pm

Double fuckittyfuck

59 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:51 pm

Oh, man.
Dammit.

60 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:51 pm

What a goodamn horrible 9th inning. Grrrrrrrr... O for 20 ferfuck's sakes! oi!

61 seamus   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:51 pm

fuck. I have to go. hopefully we can pull this off somehow.

62 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:51 pm

He was freaking 0 fer 20.

63 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:52 pm

Hm, is this wise, with D-Rob's control trouble? I dunno. I guess, it's Mauer.

64 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:52 pm

Oh, I get it. Hm.

65 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:55 pm

A nice afternoon wasted.

66 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:55 pm

Pulling out an oldie
Christ's bollocks

67 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:57 pm

Beauty day, outside chores with the radio playing. I really can't get worked up over DRob failure, but letting the Twinks Win a series in YS? Yikes!

Having a beer, smoking s stogie. And now NunE5 beats us? Maybe something good will happen in the bottom of the inning, but dayum.

68 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2014 2:57 pm

Yeah, not so smart.

Oh well, Phil gets a W.

69 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 1, 2014 3:01 pm

I'm still willingham to keep on movin.

70 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 1, 2014 3:03 pm

O Mo where art thou?

71 MSM35   ~  Jun 1, 2014 3:05 pm

Gee this is an awful team to watch. They don't hit or field well and aside from a few young pitchers and Solarte there is no one to root for hoping they get better. Maybe after the draft Cash will have enough players to change this club around. Until then don't invest to much.

72 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2014 3:07 pm

bleh

73 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2014 3:08 pm

Do not trade Dellin Betances

74 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 1, 2014 3:09 pm

Gardenworcester must be so happy.

75 thelarmis   ~  Jun 1, 2014 3:12 pm
