The Great 2014 American League Wildcard Sudden Death Elimination Game

tumblr_ncp11u7aCN1qbhl2oo1_1280 The 2014 playoffs start tonight in Kansas City in a great match-up of gun-for-hire Ace pitchers: James Shields–Big Game was Worthy, remember–vs. sour ass Jon Lester. It’s likely the last game of one of those players’ careers with that their team–and even the winner is likely to split from his team via free agency as well. I don’t have a strong favorite in tonight’s game. Either way, I’m going to be rooting for the winner big time over the Angels. I’d like the see the A’s win more only because I like the idea of the ALDS being between divisional rivals. And it’d be pretty funny if the A’s pulled it out of their ass and got to the ALCS. So, let’s sit back and take it all in and be happy there’s still some baseball left–the best part, some might say. Should be fun. Let’s Go Base-ball! Picture by Bags.

You know, I've hated the Angels for years, but part of me would love to see Trout just go nuts in the post-season.

2. Excellent point and agreed. I don't hate them nearly as much as in years past. Trout is the reason why.

I'm going with the Tiggers for the postseason. Watched some of the players as Mud Hens and Detroit could use some good news.

Pretty cool seeing Kauffman Stadium going nuts like this.

3) Always could use some good news, you're right. I'd have no problem with them winning it all though they wouldn't be my first cherce.

And while it doesn't feel right for a Yankee fan to root for the Dodgers, I would be fine with Mattingly finally getting his ring.

It would be pretty funny if the WS wound up Buck vs. Donnie

[7] Buck IS a great manager but c'mon, I'm all in for Donnie Baseball to get a ring.

i'm going with the Buccos.

as far as tonight's game goes, i'm still a bit peeved about how KC treated Cano at the A-S game. also, i don't like shields at all. i do love the stadium, though... i'll go with the fun loving A's.

"big game" gone after 5+.

i bet this ventura kid is gonna be exciting, regardless of what happens.

13 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 8:59 pm

see?

exciting!

14 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 9:10 pm

since you have a good bullpen, why go to a young starter to act as a reliever with 2 on and nobody out in the biggest spot of the kid's career? plus, if you win, you just blew out an extra starter...

man on 3rd w/one out fail...

15 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 9:11 pm

no problem. catcher who didn't start, comes in as an injury replacement and drives in the run.

6-3 oaktown

16 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 9:13 pm

it's a hit parade!

[14] Almost every single analyst/columnist/commentator has said Ned Yost is terrible..and looks like he's confirming it!

18 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 9:18 pm

[17] probably his last game as manager...

19 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 30, 2014 9:20 pm

[18] 'Hi Ned, it's Grady here..Grady Little? I'll save you a spot on the golfcourse tomorrow morning..'

20 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 9:24 pm

that's some curveball.

lester working on a shutdown inning after a long break.

and there it is. 3 up, 3 down. 10 in a row.

last third of the game coming up...

21 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2014 9:33 pm

7-3! Fuck!

22 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 10:01 pm

lester can't last much longer...

23 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 10:08 pm

we've got a game on our hands...

24 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 10:10 pm

25 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 10:19 pm

whoa. somehow, the A's get out of with the lead in tact.

7-6 going into the 9th.

i figured it would be tied, at the very least...

27 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 10:58 pm

this one goes to 11...

28 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 30, 2014 11:12 pm

Man, I'm feeling for our pal, Ken. I know he must have predicted this loss 17 times tonight. Not that they've lost yet…yet. But it don't look good.

29 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 30, 2014 11:17 pm

I'm stuck on an endless conference call..missing the game, it looks like a good one..

30 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 11:17 pm

game going to the 12th.

i'm going to the studio.

31 MSM35   ~  Sep 30, 2014 11:20 pm

Up late, just saw Nixie take a third strike. Who is more helpless with the bat him or Ryan? Go Royals.

32 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 11:43 pm

I leave and then the extra inning scoring begins.

Damn!

33 thelarmis   ~  Sep 30, 2014 11:55 pm

Wow.

Followed on my fon.

Crazy game.

34 Start Spreading the News   ~  Sep 30, 2014 11:56 pm

I tuned in the 10th, rooting for the A's. It just wasn't the A's day. So many little things went against them. Playoffs are cruel.

35 MSM35   ~  Sep 30, 2014 11:56 pm

Moneyball?

So I guess all of Oakland's moves before the trade deadline, when they had the best record in the league, didn't really work out in the end.
