"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

First Look

When I went to the Yankees’ workout day at the new Yankee Stadium back on April 2, a reporter from The Bronx Beat followed me around with a camera to capture my initial impressions of the new ballpark. The result is this piece, which also uses my photography of the park’s construction from the previous two seasons.

All of the still photographs in that piece are mine. Many of the photographs I took that day can be found in my photo essay on the new stadium. My other writing on the new ballpark can be found here, while my posts on the closing of the old Stadium can be found here.

They interviewed the 99 year old guy who has now seen both Yankee openers. For the first half of the interview, I was actually surprised how lively and lucid he was for 99. Things sort of went downhill towards the end, but its still a cool story.

Things went downhill because they wanted him to give a soundbite and he tried to have a conversation. He's in great shape for 99 both physically and mentally. We should all be so lucky.

Great video, Cliff, thanks for it!

(And you look *nothing* like I thought you'd look.)

I look very little like I think I look, either. The last five years have been rough that way.

That said, I'd love to know what you thought I looked like. I always find that stuff interesting, and seeing as I blogged for a good five years before anyone got a good look at my mug, I'm sure there are a ton of interesting responses to that.

Yogi, is that you?!

Is that even possible or not?

"The last five years have been rough that way."

Always remember... You're never as old as others think you are!

But seriously, I believe you appear very distinguished, and you handle yourself very professionally for the most part, particularly here and on those spots you do on SNY with Will. I'm still not very inclined to give you a pass for picking the Red Sox to win it all, unless of course, yours was a "professional kybosh" that's now reached epic proportions ten games into the season! That kind of seeing my friend, is Nostradamusarian indeed (sorry Alex)!
