Alex (shaking my head). How long did it take you to find that pic, lol. You must have been laughing the whole time.

Good Lord. A-Rod the Centaur. Things like that can stick to a guy. The dude is weird, nodoubtaboutit.

I just - I dunno. I want one of those flasher things the MIB guys had that can erase my memory. I really don't want to think of half man half horse when A-Rod steps into the box tonight. The whole stadium might just start whinnying. Heck - I might too!

extremely pretty shot from FOX's camera behind the plate, and that could very well be our boy, but doesnt our centaur tend to draw his bow from the other side of the plate?

Upon further review the instant re-play shows the ruling on the Banter stands.... the centaur on your computer screen is ours!

[2] And they complained when he went bare chested in central park. Wait till he starts dropping road apples in the on deck circle. Who's job is it to carry the shovel? Matsui or Posada?

[3] if you skip ahead to page 998 of your 2009 Yankee Mythology Book you'll see that our centaur passes non-toxic, non-odorous fuel nuggets that help 8 cylinder SUVs, and light trucks get 87 miles per chunk.

[4] Just so long as it powers score trucks and trains.

[3] Not that it’s relevant to your point, but they both do a lot of animal-based charity work.

All right, centaurs it is!

Here's my very favorite centaur painting (like I have lots of them, right?). Actually, it's one of my favorite paintings, period:

...is Wordpress indicating that all are posts are from the future? Is this happening for other people? My computer clock is correct, but it seems that Wordpress hasn't figured out the whole end of Daylight Savings Time thing yet.

[8] the time stamps are off by an hour

11 Shaun P.   ~  Nov 2, 2009 5:51 pm

[8] Yep; I noticed it last night when I logged on to the Banter for the first time during the game thread.

I just figured A-Rod was a big fan of modern American literature...

in the off-season we have to develop a bronx banter dictionary/commonly used expressions

[13] I was rather surprised that no one else got there before me.

Of course, in this case, its very relevant to bp1's point! =)

[14] A Banter FAQ - that would be a fun way to pass the offseason days, instead of flogging dead horses.

There's something oddly comforting for a Phillies fan to come here and see you discussing A-Roid's bedroom decor. I'm surprised to see no advocates for taking a dive tonight so you can win on your home field (j/k). Not conceding anything but, it looks pretty bleak. FWIW, last night I had a feeling of confidence and tonight it's dread and resignation. Lee is bound to have a hiccup this postseason. If my gut feeling for tonight is anything like how I picked NFL games yesterday, your guys are screwed.

All kidding aside, the Yankees have played like worthy champs in this series. If the dispatch the Phils tonight, or later this week, I hope you'll refrain from rifling the pockets of the corpse and from mutilating it so that their loved ones are afforded the comfort of an open casket.

Okay, assuming this is the game thread.

Now taking bets on the for number of comments in this thread.

My guess: 2727 (you see what I did there?)

You may indicate two guesses, one for a Yankees win and one for a loss. Not sure myself which would get more posts.

[16] Or dead centaurs, as it were.

20 Shaun P.   ~  Nov 2, 2009 6:15 pm

[18] Depends, I think, on how many mystifying moves the Yanks make, and how close the game is, not whether its a win or a loss. But who knows?

It took extra innings to get us over 2000 back in the ALCS, so I think even a win (if in 9 innings) won't get us there again. I think we'll get into the 1700s tonight - say 1776, just because. They are the Yankees, after all.

Gardner's in. Boy, Lee will be quaking in fear now.

22 Shaun P.   ~  Nov 2, 2009 6:31 pm

[21] I don't think it will rattle Lee, but I haven't given up on Gardner. Lee might underestimate him though, and that might be useful.

Playing JHJ in CF because of his handedness would have been as silly to me as starting Enrique WilsonJHJ against Pedro because of 27 ABs that all happened before 2004. So I take this as a sign that Girardi is getting smarter and learning from his mistakes!

23 mehmattski   ~  Nov 2, 2009 6:32 pm

Seems like they're trying to replace Melky on the roster. I wonder with whom. Knowing Girardi, it's probably either Guzman or Cervelli.

[0] love the pic!

I'm at work tonight. Gonna print a scorecard and keep score, FWIW. It'll be Banter/Sterling/Waldman for me. :)

Let's go Yan-kees! (clap, clap, clap clap clap)!

25 Yankee Mama   ~  Nov 2, 2009 6:47 pm

[22] Between Gardner and Hairston in CF, I would pick Gardner even though he can't hit lefties. However, I don't think Lee will underestimate anyone. Doesn't seem to be his style.

Enrique Wilson-I completely forgot about him. Oy.

[18] Okay, assuming this is the game thread.

That's where you made your first mistake!

These game days have a lot of threads lately which I think tends to gum up the discourse a bit. But whatever, there is a game thread now.

i wonder how the fans at the stadium will take to this centaur information? will alex roll with it? can't wait to find out... and if a centaur wins the 27th, does it matter that he's a centaur?
