I absolutely LOVE that name, Abdul Salam. He's the one that usually stumps people but I always remembered it because it reminded me of salami. Jerome Barkum was the other name I loved on that team.
For some reason Marty Lyons name always reminded me of Marty Robbins the late great Country Western singer and balladeer. Something stupid I know but it's still just stuck there in my head after all these years. I think of those guys and Marty Lyons I go immediately to Marty Robbins and I hear "Out in the west Texas town of El Paso etc etc . . . "
I remembered every one except Salaam. Of course, I remember Marty Lyons because he played for Bama back in the late 70's. He was also the one who the ref said was "giving the business down there" to Jim Kelly":
Mark Gastineau and Joe Klecko, and... I forget the two inside guys. Dang. That was a long time ago.
Half way home...
Marty Lyons & Abdul Salam. It's there now but I really can't call it home!
