The Big Fella

Some sad news to report as former pitcher Jim Bibby passed away last night. I’ll never forget the images of Bibby, an enormous man, pitching in the 1979 Whirled Serious, the first Serious I vividly remember. He just seemed so much bigger than everyone else, including the Cobra and Pops Stargell.

Condolences go out to his family.

Wow, that's a name I hadn't heard in a while. Lot of funny stuff about Bibby in Shropshire's book on the Texas Rangers, "Seasons in Hell."

I think I remember a photo in SI?) of Jim Bibby holding something like 5 or 6 baseballs in one of his giant hands. I always thought it was neat as a kid that there was a Bibby in MLB and Henry in the NBA. That's one athletic family. A key player on one of the most memorable teams in a half century. RIP.
