Let's go Yanks, indeed.

Little early for the Ike Davis coronation, IMO.

2 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 7:29 pm

Hey, new thread! :)
Same broadcast. :(

3 Diane Firstman   ~  May 22, 2010 7:30 pm

ooooh ... here we are now, entertain us!

4 mjpucci   ~  May 22, 2010 7:30 pm

So it's going to be one of THOSE strike zones, huh.

5 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:31 pm

Is Phil afraid to pitch Wright inside? Because that's where the strike zone is tonight. Inside for righties is being called a strike.

6 Eirias   ~  May 22, 2010 7:33 pm

Shucks. No CG SO.

7 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:33 pm

Argh. Yeah, I had a bad feeling when Davis walked.

I liked those high fastballs. I mean, high in the zone. That showed confidence, and Wright couldn't get them. Fouled them off. He couldn't get him to chase the wide ones, though.

8 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 7:34 pm

Fucking cheap shot.

9 mjpucci   ~  May 22, 2010 7:35 pm

Have to wait for the replay, but did anyone else think Wright got his foot in there before A-Rod's tag?

10 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:35 pm

Oy.

11 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 7:37 pm

NOT a good start... : /

12 Diane Firstman   ~  May 22, 2010 7:42 pm

Be careful Phil ...

13 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:42 pm

Good job by Randy.

14 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 7:44 pm

Hey, look at Phil, laying off that slider!

15 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:45 pm

Heh.
Can't fool Phil with a change-up!

16 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:45 pm

[15] ... or slider.
Off-speed pitch out of the zone.

17 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 7:45 pm

don't get hurt!!!

18 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 7:45 pm

Nice ab, Phil!

19 Diane Firstman   ~  May 22, 2010 7:45 pm

[15]

Griffey, Jr. was caught napping during a change-up ... :-)

20 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 7:46 pm

[16] Yeah, whatever it was!

21 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 7:46 pm

i hate that he now has to go straight to the mound.

22 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:47 pm

[19] I love the whole concept of people napping during baseball games. There's something so appealing about it, so compelling.

23 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:49 pm

That's more like it.

24 rbj   ~  May 22, 2010 7:50 pm

Just checking in, I got the Tiggers-Dodgers game

Twins - Brewers still going, 7 up, bottom 9 2 outs bases loaded and a deep fly out. This one goes to ten.

25 Eirias   ~  May 22, 2010 7:50 pm

Truly life-altering problems, those.

26 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 7:51 pm

[22] ...but if you snooze, you lose...

27 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:51 pm

[24] Yeah, but this one goes to eleven.

28 NYYfan22   ~  May 22, 2010 7:52 pm

[27] haha.. "these go to eleven".

29 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 7:53 pm

Wow, that was fast. Went into the kitchen to fix a little something and missed three whole outs.
Well done, Phil

30 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:53 pm

Damn, Phil.

Good thing that first inning didn't count!

31 Diane Firstman   ~  May 22, 2010 7:53 pm

Ollie Perez refused a minor league assignment ... so now he's the highest-paid middle inning reliever in the majors.

32 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:53 pm

[29] They were good ones, too. K, pop, K.

33 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 7:53 pm

[27] eh eh eh.

my downbeat just got pushed back a half-hour, so i should be able to catch 2 innings or so. hopefully, i get the NY game on fox...

34 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:54 pm

[31] Kei Igawa is very happy,

35 rbj   ~  May 22, 2010 7:54 pm

[27] And my Kenwood receiver actually does go up to 30.

36 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 7:54 pm

[30] that's really funny! : )

[31] well, Big Z isn't back in the rotation just yet, though he will be super soon...

37 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:56 pm

Fuck, we've had a lot of first pitch outs. A couple of long at bats too, but still.

38 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 7:56 pm

[33] That's awesome!
Wait, how long was your upbeat pushed back? Because that could be a problem, if it was only pushed back 15 minutes.

39 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 8:00 pm

kpopk... most I can make out is a little crocodile with an elevated tail...

40 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:03 pm

Nice play, Alex.

41 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 8:03 pm

[39] They used to use it to stuff those Clincher softballs!

42 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 8:03 pm

[39] Umm, that was in ref to [32]. See, the thread still lives...

43 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 8:05 pm

[38] my upbeats are in perfect time, it's the offbeats i worry about. damn e's and a's! ; )

well, frick - both tuners on my dvr are in use, so no watchy for me. guess i'll do my dishes and follow online for a few extra minutes...

44 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 8:07 pm

[42] Oh, I got that one. As thelarmis said, it's the offbeat ones I have trouble with.

45 Diane Firstman   ~  May 22, 2010 8:08 pm

Haha ... Buck got screwed by Rosenthal

46 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 8:09 pm

[41] deBeer made you do it, I gather >;)

47 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:09 pm

Such fucking bullshit about home runs being such "exciting product."

How is a home run more exciting than watching to see if a guy can take the extra base, whether he'll be thrown out, whether the fielder can make the play or the ball will fall in.

Home runs are the least exciting part of the game. They're impressive, to be sure, but totally free of suspense.

48 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 8:10 pm

i don't like this pattern w/ bay & ike. let's break it here w/ wright...

49 Diane Firstman   ~  May 22, 2010 8:11 pm

[47]

But you have to admit ... they really do need to move the fences in here about 10 feet all around ...

50 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 8:11 pm

[45] Tsk, stop spreading rumors like that (unless you're willing to share your sources)!

51 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:11 pm

Oh god damn it!

52 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 8:12 pm

[48] Ugh. Pattern holds.

53 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 8:12 pm

[47] conrad's game winning granny for the bravos the other day sure had suspense! in/out of nix's glove at the wall...

but i understand what you're trying to convey : )

FUCK! phil phorgot to break from the pattern.

54 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 8:12 pm

[46] Well, sure, deBeer and softball. Match made in heaven.
[47] That's not the worst part. The worst part is thinking of baseball as "product".
Everything is product now. Ugh.

55 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:13 pm

[49] It is pretty cavernous. I'm fine with it but yes, they could bring the fences in without turning it into a band box.

56 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:13 pm

[54] Oh, absolutely. Absolutely.

57 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 8:13 pm

[47] Oh I dunno, one of the more intriguing home runs I saw involved two guys and a white Ford Bronco...

58 Diane Firstman   ~  May 22, 2010 8:13 pm

[50]

he was stating that Mets needed to move fences in, as even SD have moved their fences in at Petco, and Rosenthal refuted it :-)

59 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 8:13 pm

"Angel Pagan" is an odd name, as if someone were trying to make a point. Like a character in a novel.

60 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 8:14 pm

dice-klay matsu-sucka has a no-no thru 1/3rd of the game. feh!

61 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:14 pm

[53] Hehheheh. Didn't see it.

62 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 8:15 pm

[59] yeah, i've always thought that. esp if you pronounce both names in english, like an american.

63 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:15 pm

[59] :)

64 Diane Firstman   ~  May 22, 2010 8:16 pm

[62]

Can we call him Hellboy?

65 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 8:16 pm

[54] They sure were thinking baseball as "product" in the 80's, especially in Pittsburgh...

[51] Sorry, I'll bring my 'A' material when the Yanks get back in or near first place...

66 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:19 pm

[65] Ok, I'll look forward to it. :)

67 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 8:19 pm

[58] Hah, I don't tease you much, do I?

68 rbj   ~  May 22, 2010 8:20 pm

Good news is that Granderson got 4 ABs today, bad news is SWB was one-hit.

69 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 8:22 pm

robbie is turning into groundzilla...

70 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:22 pm

Nice ab, Swish.

71 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 8:22 pm

Now that's what we could use some more of. More Nick Swisher.

72 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 8:23 pm

nice AB, Swish!

73 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:23 pm

Frankie and Brett both look to have cooled off.

74 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 8:23 pm

frack - shit sox & rays both up a run...

75 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 8:24 pm

[68] Was it a HBP?

76 The Hawk   ~  May 22, 2010 8:25 pm

God I hate TWC's shitty DVR box. I paused it at 7:20 then turn it on at 7:50 and lo and behold it suddenly erased all the paused material, two innings down the tubes!

Pelfrey's pitching like a guy with a chip on his shoulder.

77 The Hawk   ~  May 22, 2010 8:26 pm

Hm. A pro-My Little Pony ad during an all-New York game? Bizarre.

78 The Hawk   ~  May 22, 2010 8:28 pm

Pathetically, I keep looking for that pitch count ...

79 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 8:28 pm

[76] Then he should really learn to use a napkin...

80 The Hawk   ~  May 22, 2010 8:29 pm

[80] Booooo!

; )

81 Diane Firstman   ~  May 22, 2010 8:29 pm

[78]

69 pitches now

82 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 8:30 pm

[80] Boooo yourself! Oh wait... >;)

83 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 8:30 pm

[80] Wow, you have a self-esteem problem or something?
That's not a paradox, is it? To boo yourself?

84 rbj   ~  May 22, 2010 8:30 pm

[75] No, looks like it was a single. The team had only one hit, Curtis 0-4

Oh, how's this for bad managing, it's only the 11th in Minnesota and the Brewers are using tomorrow's scheduled starter. Way to burn your pen.

85 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 8:31 pm

Hey, Pop K K this time.
Chyll, your thoughts?

86 cult of basebaal   ~  May 22, 2010 8:32 pm

I hate FOX games. I *especially* hate FOX games that I can't even watch.

Gah.

87 Chyll Will   ~  May 22, 2010 8:34 pm

[85] Rewinding Pop? No thanks, I'll stick to the jazz channel...

[84] Brewer's manager, please ref to [80], have a nice next two games...

88 cult of basebaal   ~  May 22, 2010 8:35 pm

Another pitcher at bat safely out of the way ...

89 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:35 pm

He looks like a crybaby.

90 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 8:37 pm

why hasn't winn stolen 3rd yet?

91 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:38 pm

"A habitual liar?"
The pitching coach said that?

92 thelarmis   ~  May 22, 2010 8:38 pm

[84] hopefully Willie is in line for his next managerial job...

93 The Hawk   ~  May 22, 2010 8:38 pm

John Maine seems like a little bitch.

94 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 22, 2010 8:39 pm

Oh, Derek.

You're killing us!

95 Diane Firstman   ~  May 22, 2010 8:40 pm

In 9th inning, with 2nd and 3rd, tied at 7 with 1 out, Gardenhire sent up Thome to PH for his SS. He was IBBed, and then Gardenhire PR for Thome! And then used yet another person to play SS in the 10th .... Umm ... huh?

96 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 8:40 pm

Here we go, Brett, this is your cue. IF hit please.

97 The Hawk   ~  May 22, 2010 8:40 pm

[82] Definitely not a paradox. I don't think booing while boing is really booing actually. It's more like saying "Yay"

98 The Hawk   ~  May 22, 2010 8:41 pm

I mean boing not boing

99 Diane Firstman   ~  May 22, 2010 8:41 pm

[97]

Booing is the new cheering ...

100 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2010 8:41 pm

[95] You are questioning genius, Diane.
"That Einstein feller, what the hell is he talkin' about? Space is time?? He's must be out of his mind."

[98] Boing Not Boing...wasn't that an 80s band?

104 The Hawk   ~  May 22, 2010 8:43 pm

Can we move ol' Brett out of the GODDAMN two hole? Please?

[159] Very nice word. And more or less in common to all the Gaels, so everyone's happy.

[158] You ought to have tried to get Tristam Shandy in there, somehow.

Nice pitch, Phil.

[161] Okay. Scansion leaves something to be desired.

Thank god for Francoeur.

Maybe John Candy.

Can't believe they gave Pagan a double for that ... Not cool for our boy Phil. Nonetheless, he did not pitch very well for the second straight game. If he doesn't pick it up the next time out, I declare the era of Dominant Phil over.

Beltre steals a hit in the bottom of the 8th by spearing a line drive ticketed to left, then doubles off Ibanez, who'd walked. 2 outs.

204 mjpucci   ~  May 22, 2010 9:52 pm

Oh, and don't know who's seen this at Pinto's site:

"I Guess the Rule was Written After 1971

Via Deadspin, The Fleer Sticker Project finds footage of Don Buford running across the mound in front of Dock Ellis during the 1971 World Series.

There wasn’t a single word mentioned about this being an unwritten rule and nobody seemed to take offense to it.

Of course, it’s quite possible Dock Ellis was actually in a different dimension at the time."

In front of the pitcher.

209 mjpucci   ~  May 22, 2010 9:55 pm

Interesting that the single to break up Dice-K's no-no was a little flare to shallow left, the type of play Jeter usually makes in his sleep, but Scutaro wasn't tall enough.

[215] Haven't scored too many, either, except, as has been noted, during garbage time.

220 mjpucci   ~  May 22, 2010 10:02 pm

[209] It had some hang time, but we've seen Jeter make that play all the time, where he backtracks and catches it in front of the left fielder.

268 The Hawk   ~  May 22, 2010 10:27 pm

Gardner needs to go back lower in the lineup. I don't see the point of having him hit second, I really don't.

269 mjpucci   ~  May 22, 2010 10:28 pm

At the very least, K-Rod will have to work through the meat of the lineup in the 9th, probably rendering him unavailable tomorrow. Then again, the way Manuel uses his bullpen, he may throw him out there again.

270 NYYfan22   ~  May 22, 2010 10:28 pm

[261] yeah. I guess that was kinda weird. the radio feed on my iphone via mlb app lags like 60 seconds. But the gameday display updates quick. So I saw:

Pitch 5 In play, run(s) (78.5 mph Changeup)

and then I got excited before it 'splained fielder's choice.

299 The Hawk   ~  May 22, 2010 10:50 pm

Well this sets up tomorrow nicely. Sabathia v Santana for the series win. Santana's historically better but on a good day Sabathia can match anyone. Too bad I'll miss most if not all of it.

300 mjpucci   ~  May 22, 2010 10:51 pm

The top 3 in this lineup are all scuffling, and it's killing the Yankees. A-Rod and Cano come up having to start rallies rather than driving them in.

301 JeremyM   ~  May 22, 2010 10:55 pm

If A-Rod put together a stretch like Teixeira has, it would be beyond ugly. A slump is one thing, but he is completely useless with the bat for long stretches.

302 mjpucci   ~  May 22, 2010 10:56 pm

[299] Santana career is just 4-2 with a 4.40 ERA against the Yanks all-time, and he got rocked last year.

Sabathia against the Mets: 2-0, 1.20 in a much smaller sample size.

303 NYYfan22   ~  May 22, 2010 10:58 pm

[302] except that nothing has worked out the way it's supposed to on paper thus far...

[302] Yeah what's his ERA minus that terrible game last year ... That must skew things a bit.
