"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Set to Rip it Live

We’ll take a re-run of AJ Burnett’s last performance, now won’t we?

Let’s hope the wild man evens his record at 7-7 and the Yanks leave the Bay Area feelin’ fine.

And yo, speaking of the Bay…

Let’s Go Yan-Kees.

Japan: where giant Sumo wrestlers, Yakuza gangsters and baseball all meet in a huge Nabe-pot of scandal!

Oh, Derek.

5 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jul 7, 2010 10:11 pm

Holy shit, is that true?
27 straight games on base for Teix?
Damn!

6 OldYanksFan   ~  Jul 7, 2010 10:22 pm

The Sox score 2 in the 9th, but still lose 6-4, leaving the tying run on 1st with Ugly making the last out. That's 4 loses in a row for the Sox.

7 Eirias   ~  Jul 7, 2010 10:35 pm

Beautiful double-play turned by Jeter.

Oh, wait.

8 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 7, 2010 10:40 pm

Just an observation ...you don't see many African-American trainers in MLB.

9 Chyll Will   ~  Jul 7, 2010 10:48 pm

[0] Meh. Flow is tight, but he's not saying anything you will remember. Pass...

[1] Did Bill James write that script?

[8] Hmmm... now that you mentioned it... hmmm... hmmm...

10 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jul 7, 2010 10:49 pm

Not.

A.

Strike.

11 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jul 7, 2010 10:50 pm

[8] Indeed, now that you mention it...

12 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jul 7, 2010 10:50 pm

Great AB, Jorgie.

Ugh.

13 Raf   ~  Jul 7, 2010 10:53 pm

[8] Could be a byproduct of the numbers; I wonder about the number of African Americans in athletic training programs. SSS, but I didn't see many when I attended SUNY Brockport.

[12] Not surprising, if the ump is going to call pitches a foot off the plate

14 Eirias   ~  Jul 7, 2010 10:54 pm

I missed that. Who thought they were going where?

15 Raf   ~  Jul 7, 2010 10:58 pm

[14] Cano and the HR derby

16 Chyll Will   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:01 pm

[13] I'm of the opinion that quite a few HBCUs have some qualified candidates that many pro sports leagues can recruit if interested. But it's not my realm of expertise, so I never really thought about it. My big brother, on the other hand, moonlights as a personal trainer and intends to open his own business when he retires from his day job. When I talk with him, we'll kick that question around a bit and see what he has to say...

17 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:02 pm

This stadium is a travesty.

18 Raf   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:06 pm

[16] It's an interesting topic, but I'm sure there are a lot of factors involved. It could be that many in that program choose a route that your brother took (going into personal training). I'd imagine that being an athletic trainer in any of the ML sports has to be a pretty competitive job.

Are there any HCBU's that are known for their athletic training programs?

19 Eirias   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:10 pm

A Jeterian play by Cervelli.

20 Eirias   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:11 pm

I jest, somewhat.

21 Raf   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:12 pm

[18] Competitive with regards to applying to open positions

22 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:18 pm

Wow!
How sad is it that it's gotten to the point where I'm surprised to see Derek hit the ball hard.

23 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:21 pm

ding dong

24 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:21 pm

Hey, Teix!!

25 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:28 pm

[17] What's with the skimoy game thread..west coast time zone? boring A's team? parking-lot stadium?

Go Go Teix!

26 Raf   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:32 pm

[25] I'm flipping between the game and Nat' Geographic's "Locked Up Abroad"

27 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:35 pm

[17] What is the meaning of skimoy?

28 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:37 pm

Ooops, I meant that for [25]

29 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:40 pm

[27] Should have said "skimpy"..me bad typing while eat grilled sand-o-wich..

30 Eirias   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:41 pm

I'm too lazy to look this up: can the DH be moved to a fielding spot?

31 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:43 pm

These are boring, late, quietly satisfying games for the Yanks, as they should be. For east coasters, by the third night after two five hour sleeps, we're toast. Lucky musician types get a pass.

32 Evil Empire   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:45 pm

After this week no more west coast trips.

33 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:45 pm

[31] Love the west coast games, they go on til about 2pm here usually..then read the box scores & recaps, by then it's almost quitting time here at ACME Investigations.

Not sure how the A's are almost at .500 with that lineup..

34 Evil Empire   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:47 pm

By the way, I'm not so upset about trading Johan Santana for AJ Burnett anymore. The actual trade was:

I gave up Johan + Jason Bartlett + Victor Martinez

I got back AJ + Adrian Gonzalez + Aramis Ramirez

35 Chyll Will   ~  Jul 7, 2010 11:47 pm

[18] Off the top of my head, i want to say Grambling State, but I don't know. That requires some serious consideration...

36 Raf   ~  Jul 8, 2010 12:03 am

[30] Yes you can, but the pitcher has to bat.

37 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jul 8, 2010 12:24 am

Quite the Giambian throw there.

38 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jul 8, 2010 12:32 am

Oh, Alex.

It's been so long since we've seen him do that.

39 monkeypants   ~  Jul 8, 2010 12:41 am

Another base knock for Jeter...now, can Swisher get that elusive triple?

40 monkeypants   ~  Jul 8, 2010 12:42 am

Nope.

41 thelarmis   ~  Jul 8, 2010 12:42 am

hey weeping and mp! doesn't look like too many others are still here. i'm just getting in. looks like aj was rather excellent!

shit sox got swept! wahoo!!!

42 thelarmis   ~  Jul 8, 2010 12:52 am

nice inning for marte the parte!

a-rod, jorgie, dancers groin rust to bat in the 9th

43 monkeypants   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:00 am

41) I've been in and out of the game, listening on the radiophone through the computer. It seems like a relatively tidy game.

44 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:03 am

[43] Ma & Pa in fine form?

Gameday here off and on..

45 Raf   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:04 am

[41] I'm here! Was captivated by an episode of Locked Up Abroad. Guy got roped into smuggling drugs from Cuzco. Totally innocent (it was his companion that was caught), but was locked up for 10 months anyway.

Joba in to get some work...

46 thelarmis   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:07 am

hi raf! jazz tokyo, too!

9 pitches for joba and a road sweep!

now, we need at least 1 from the M's. gotta face the king and clifton, so it'll be a tough series. glad we swept this. we should still be able to go - at least - 4-2 on this swing...

47 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:09 am

[46] I have a great uncle Clifton..he's a bit of a craft lefty as well, though more of the house-builder type, not a pitcher..

[45] Time in a Peruvian jail..not sure that's happy thoughts on a sunny afternoon..

48 Mattpat11   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:09 am

Exactly the series the Yankees needed against an awful team. Do it again in Seattle

49 jjmerlock   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:13 am

Oh so late.

zzzzzzzzz....

That was the most *pleasant* series of the year. Niiiiiice.

Tough pitching ahead. Vargas - Lee - Hernandez - Bedard...

Hoping for the best

50 monkeypants   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:15 am

44) Don't know...I finally paid the $15 to get MLB At Bat for my iPad, so that i can stream all of the opposing teams' feeds. I haven't listened to Sterling-Waldman in weeks. It's truly wonderful.

51 jjmerlock   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:16 am

[48] That was a 24-15 home team before we came to town. I think they're a pretty good match up for us, but I was very pleased with such a thorough beat down.

52 thelarmis   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:16 am

[49] ah, that's right - it's a 4 game showdown. well, let's shoot for the split, i guess... 3-1 would be rather ruling!

[47] clifton phifer lee. that's some name! i'm guessing 'phifer' is a "family" name, or something... the handyman at my old apt. complex is named clifton and he's helped out quite a bit at my new house!

53 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:17 am

MLB At Bat lets you get whichever feed you want? I imagine that would work on my regular Macbook at home too, right? $15 ain't bad..

Though a big "BOOOOH! to mlb.com for making you pay for the radio feed, it used to be free..

54 jjmerlock   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:20 am

[52] If they went 2-2, I could definitely live with that.

These three were so nice, considering how late these games run...

55 monkeypants   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:23 am

53) I'm not sure if it works on the Macbook...I think that it's only available as an app for iPhone and now iPad. It combines Gameday features and audio, and you can stream video if you have an MLB.tv account. They also give you one free TV game each day, but it usually sucks (it's never the Yankees as far as I can tell).

56 jjmerlock   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:24 am

Btw, hope you all are pouring in your votes for Swish.

He's the kind of guy that would get a good boost from going.

(wish Jeter was taking the four days off...)

57 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 8, 2010 1:29 am

[55] Hmmm..no iPhone or iPad here..will check it out for the 2nd half of the season. Only if they allowpost-season games too..though I can watch those live here, thankfully. Are there enough other feaures on AtBat that make it better than regular GameDay though?

58 RIYank   ~  Jul 8, 2010 2:13 am

Just woke up -- now I know how you feel, Mr. OK!
Good news to wake up to, even though I couldn't watch a minute of the game. (On the other hand, World Cup timing was perfect for dinner at the pub, and I was very happy at the result, too.)

Party on, Banterers. You're doing extremely well without me -- I'm so proud!

59 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 8, 2010 3:30 am

[58] Travelling on business, RIYank? Gameday ahoy!

60 RIYank   ~  Jul 8, 2010 8:23 am

[59] Indeed, but I am asleep during the west coast games. In England, so the games start at 3:00 AM my time and finish around 6. But the World Cup timing made up for it.
