stupid hot out here in NW NJ.
chilling with my boys on the lake today with the Lumpy & Chuckles Show on the New York Yankees Radio Network.

2 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 12:21 pm

Humid and 91 here, so I'm sipping some iced coffee and staying pretty still.

3 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:02 pm

I've already been to the dentist (in Brooklyn) and back. In my AC apt. for the rest of the day.

4 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:05 pm

92 at first pitch for the Mud Hens yesterday -- at 7:02 pm. Game was going well, with the storms passing us by, until top of the fifth when the heavens opened. Game got suspended, it's back on at 6 pm, followed by the regularly scheduled game.

Too damn hot out to do anything except lie on the couch, sip lemonade & watch the Bombers do their stuff.

#600 today.

OK, why only the KC feed for the game today?

5 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:05 pm

I wonder if YES will mention the damage to the video board from last night's storm.

6 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:10 pm

Ah, there's the YES feed.

Time for the Sergio Mitre Experience.

7 Just Fair   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:11 pm

Meat-tray very "unlucky" to start on such a hot day. ; )

8 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:15 pm

I'm exhausted just watching this.

9 williamnyy23   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:16 pm

Looks like we are going to be treated to another unlucky game from Sergio Mitre.

10 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:17 pm

24 GIDPs, and we're not even in August.

11 Just Fair   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:17 pm

Well this sucks.

12 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:18 pm

I think all three of those pitches to Butler were strikes!

13 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:18 pm

Thanks, Jorge.

14 williamnyy23   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:18 pm

More great defense from Posada.

15 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:18 pm

(I mean, the first three, that he took.)

16 Just Fair   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:19 pm

That was a poor throw by Alex. Kinda like the bad one he had to Jeter at third the other night. : (

17 JeremyM   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:21 pm

[16] It wasn't great, but still an easy play for Posada. Poor Jorge....

18 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:22 pm

Damn chump was lucky to get out of it allowing just two. Dude! It's hot out there, pick up the pace, throw strikes, damn you.

19 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:22 pm

So, with Cervelli catching Mitre probably gets out of that mess with no runs.

20 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:23 pm
21 JeremyM   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:25 pm

[19] Well, the sac fly still would've likely went down, right?

22 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:26 pm

[21] But I meant Podsednik wouldn't have stolen third on Frankie. Grounder to A-Rod just an easy out at third. Etc.

I know, I know, fallacy of blah blah blah.

23 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:28 pm

Wow ... that was NOT a swing

24 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:28 pm

Meat-tray very “unlucky” to start on such a hot day.

Meat Trays left out in the sun are not a pretty sight ...

25 Just Fair   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:28 pm

"Specially Marked Balls" would make a good handle.

26 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:29 pm

[25]

LOL

27 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:29 pm

[25]

Or "600 Balls"

28 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:30 pm

[24] Ugh. I think I just became a vegetarian.

29 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:32 pm

[28]

And if Meat Tray bobbles a bunt, it would be scored "E. coli"

30 The Hawk   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:33 pm

Honestly I wanted to see the replay of Teixeira's "swing" more than the A Rod hype

31 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:33 pm

[28] If you aren't now, just wait until you see what happens after another couple of innings!

32 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:36 pm

Anyone else been watching the games on MLB.tv recently?

Anybody else understand when I say I'm about ready to hunt down "The Colony" and slaughter every single inhabitant?

33 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 1:38 pm

That's better. Now how about some runs guys.

34 Just Fair   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:06 pm

If a Meat-Tray is left to stink in the sun and no one is around to banter about it, does it really exist?

35 JeremyM   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:08 pm

The price for Haren is going way up....

36 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:09 pm

Mmmm ... rotting Meat Tray ...

Dan Haren, come on down!

37 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:10 pm

Isn't it sad that we have this big stinking rotting meat tray, and no Vulture around to enjoy it?

38 williamnyy23   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:10 pm

It's really incredible that the Yankees once again find themselves in the position of having to rely on Sergio Mitre. He has been a pretty bad pitcher his whole career, yet the Yankees have no problem throwing away games with him on the mound. Disgraceful.

39 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:15 pm

Maybe if I close my eyes & take a nap I can pretend this is all a bad dream.

40 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:15 pm

[38] Actually it's worse than that, they're choosing to put themselves in a position to throw games away with Meat Tray.

They could have brought Nova up.

He might not be a world beater, but a) he's fully stretched out as a starter and b) he's *NOT* a rotting Meat Tray.

Oh goody, Moseley's up. Another wasted roster spot.

41 williamnyy23   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:16 pm

I feel bad for the fans making their only trip to the Stadium this year. Not only do they have to contend with the heat, but they wind up having to watch Mitre.

42 JeremyM   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:17 pm

I agree, I would've given Nova a shot, although I guess Mitre was OK earlier in the year. Still, I don't get the obsession with flotsam and jetsam this year- Moseley, Gaudin, Mitre, Park, etc. when better options are in the minors. Wayne Franklin, where have you gone?

43 williamnyy23   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:17 pm

[40] I agree...I am not saying they should make a big trade, but we know that just about anyone is better than Mitre. Unfortunatley, the Yankees don't realize this.

It's also incredible that they demoted Albaledejo, but kept Mosely and Park.

44 williamnyy23   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:18 pm

Yanks have to score in this inning....they really only have four hitters in this lineup.

45 Just Fair   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:19 pm

Every time a great play is made in the field by a player he leads off the next half inning with a homer. : )

46 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:20 pm

Gotta be a hit.

47 JeremyM   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:20 pm

[43] Well, he only struck out 2 of 3 batters faced yesterday. I really don't think it does anyone any favors when a guy performs and is demoted in favor of junk.

48 Just Fair   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:21 pm

Fuck. Great play.

49 williamnyy23   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:21 pm

That's not helpful when you are trying to come back from a six run deficit.

50 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:22 pm

Day-um.

51 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:22 pm

[45] It's the "As So Often Happens" principle, discussed by Roy Blount, Jr. in SI some years ago. (But I'm pretty sure it was the April 1st issue.)

52 williamnyy23   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:22 pm

That double play was huge.

53 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:22 pm

[43] Wow. I hadn't heard that. Awesome. Although I understand why. Once you've made the decision to start the Meat Tray, you have to keep Moseley around to back him up in case he performs like, well, like he's done today and they're obviously not ready to cut bait on Humperdink, even though they ought to have done it a month ago.

Meanwhile, CLETUS!!!

54 williamnyy23   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:26 pm

Betancourt saved a huge inning, but with Mitre likely to continue in the game, it doesn't really matter.

55 ms october   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:29 pm

hi team - just got back from a nice vacation last night and am welcomed back to the sme.

56 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:30 pm

[55] Hi Ms. Oct!
Yes, it certainly is the sme.

57 ms october   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:30 pm

[56] hi there. yes, jesus christ that ball was drilled.

58 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:30 pm

Oh fer FUCK'S SAKE, get that stinking Meat Tray OFF THE MOUND.

59 williamnyy23   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:31 pm

Sergio Mitre's presence on this team is shameful. These are the times I wish the old George was still around. He'd at least issue an apology and probably give every fan in attendance a rain check.

60 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:32 pm

I feel that Mitre's babib (batting average on balls in bleachers) is awfully high. That's widely thought to be pure luck, right?

61 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:32 pm

jesus christ. i thought these guys were only allowed to hit singles. : /

sergio is 7 runs unlucky...

62 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:32 pm

oh, and good morning, everyone.

63 williamnyy23   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:33 pm

[59] And order Mitre's immediate release.

64 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:34 pm

[55] yay! i've been meaning to ask about you here lately. seems like we hadn't heard from you round these parts for awhile. i was starting to worry...

hope the sun wasn't too strong in sme!

65 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:36 pm

[64] The sme is a dark, cold place.

66 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:39 pm

[65] is the sme worse than the grue?

67 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:39 pm

[65] oh good, so i can go. i'd prolly love it there!

68 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:41 pm

[27] ancient chinese proverb:

baseball all wrong. man with 4 balls cannot walk!

[42] flotsam and jetsam = great band! they'll have a new album out soon, "The Cold". their heyday, however is long gone...

69 ms october   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:42 pm

[64] hey thelarmis - yeah i have been absent from the banter for the last couple of weeks. my mom is visiting and we went to london and paris and just got back last night. we were watching the game in london at the hotel when andy hurt himself. espn america is quite a lovely thing.
i had a really nice time but am glad to be back even if it is africa hot in nyc.
and yes, the sme is a dark, cold, miserable place.

70 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:44 pm

Sado is one of only 5 catchers in mlb history to amass 250 HR, 350 2B & 1,000 RBI.

bench, fisk, carter, pudge and po!

71 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:44 pm

double play derek strikes again : /

72 ms october   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:46 pm

hmm, tex is single-handedly trying to counteract the sme

73 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:47 pm

[69] sounds like a wonderful trip! yeah, i remember watching the '02 WS in a london hotel. i don't think espn america was around then. it was nearly impossible to find the game or any info on it anywhere.

your vacation with your mom was much more extravagant than mine with mine. me madre came to atlanta and we basically just relaxed. fun, nonetheless!

yeah, it's like triple digits here in the deep south. i'm timorous about going to my studio, 'coz i think the A/C might still be out. if so, it'll be brutal in that sweat box...

74 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:47 pm

TEX!!! he go BOOM! getting that SLG up there.

75 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:50 pm

Man, the pre-homer GIDPs have cots us a bundle of runs.

76 Just Fair   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:52 pm

[75] That's taking into acount MK's FOTPDO. : )

77 ms october   ~  Jul 24, 2010 2:53 pm

[73] yeah we had a really good time and trip. that's nice that you got some relaxation time with your mom.

so other than andy getting hurt anything major happen with the yankees' players the last week or so?

78 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:01 pm

Ooooh, Farnsworth!

79 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:02 pm

krazy kyle.

c'mon tims, get us within a run here...

80 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:06 pm

[76] Exactly. If MK says it's a fallacy, that's good enough for me.

81 Raf   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:09 pm

These pitches to Pena strikes?

82 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:09 pm

Ramiro Peña, ladies and gentlemen.

83 monkeypants   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:19 pm

Kay, o'neill and Singleron are talking about long HRs, and someone mentioned the one that Jay Buhner hit in the old stadium that hit the ambulance in the runway in left field, beyond monument park. I was at that game...hardest hit ball I have seen.

84 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:19 pm

Wow, Dustin Moseley.

85 Just Fair   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:21 pm

9 outs to get 4 runs. Let's Go Yankees!

86 Raf   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:21 pm

[83] I remember that. Was off Wade Taylor, IIRC

87 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:22 pm

[85] dude. i was gonna post like that exact same things! great minds and all : )

88 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:27 pm

i really like granderson, but man, he's killin' me at the plate...

do it again, tex!

89 Just Fair   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:32 pm

[88] I agree. But I will keep the faith that he'll turn it around and get on a nice hot streak.

90 monkeypants   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:35 pm

Mosely seems a little luckier than Mitre today.

91 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:35 pm

mosely is moseying right along, mowing them down!

92 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:37 pm

[90] It's because of his BABIB, which I'm sure is not sustainable for either pitcher.

93 monkeypants   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:39 pm

92) see, when I show up late really need to look through the whole game thread. There's usually so much education there!

94 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:41 pm

Hey, Swish!

95 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:52 pm

Pie?

I love pie. I'm even kind of irrational about pie.

96 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 3:56 pm

Pinch "hitter" Juan Miranda, ladies and gentlemen.

97 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 4:00 pm

Okay, so, just to say what absolutely everyone is thinking: if Teixeira gets on... wow.

98 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 4:03 pm

But it was not to be.

99 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 4:03 pm

Damn. Soclose.

100 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 4:04 pm

well, that kinda sucked. i really wanted to sweep them. as silly as it sounds, tomorrow is now sort of a must win...

YES-Mo says he was SAFE. Very close, but indeed safe.

102 monkeypants   ~  Jul 24, 2010 4:05 pm

100) it does sound silly. Explain?

103 thelarmis   ~  Jul 24, 2010 4:07 pm

[102] ah, i just wanna win the series. ya know? go 5-1 on the week. rather not split the series with the royales. thazzall...

oh, and i'm silly!

104 monkeypants   ~  Jul 24, 2010 4:11 pm

103) Got it.

Silly is good!

105 rbj   ~  Jul 24, 2010 4:14 pm

Yanks got JimJoyced. Ah well, I've got a Mud Hens suspended game (Hens up 6-0 after 4) and a regularly scheduled game. More baseball for me.

106 RIYank   ~  Jul 24, 2010 4:19 pm

[103] The Royales.
So, Soria is a Royale with cheese!

107 Just Fair   ~  Jul 24, 2010 4:22 pm

[106] I'll take a Big Kahuna. Now that is one tasty burger. : )
