Battle For First Place

Yanks saddled up with some beef for the home stretch: Kerry, Austin and Lance. Sounds like the Chelsea All Boys Glee Club.

Still, the Bombers can use all the muscle they can get against these tough Rays.

Go git ’em, boys.

WOR showed that movie one time in the late70s/early 80s. They left in the scene where, during a robbery at a club (? IIRC), the robbers had all the patrons strip down to their underwear. Even the woman who declared she didn't wear underwear.

Full frontal nudity!

Yanks on the boob tube AGAIN tonight! Three games in a row. Except for the Michael Kay part, i feel like I'm getting spoiled.

27 Mattpat11   ~  Jul 31, 2010 7:33 pm

Now Kay is yelling

28 rbj   ~  Jul 31, 2010 7:36 pm

[26] I missed it. How many career HRs does A-Rod have?

29 monkeypants   ~  Jul 31, 2010 7:36 pm

I'm really glad the quest for the semi historic HR has not overshadowed the game on the field. I mean, getting a walk was a good thing, right guys?

30 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 31, 2010 7:36 pm

Shut up Kay, I covered all that in my Bantermetrics post :-)

31 thelarmis   ~  Jul 31, 2010 7:37 pm

[22] oh wow, soon. will you check in at the banter during the week? are you reachable via your new website?

Just hit it in the air Curtis

41 monkeypants   ~  Jul 31, 2010 7:43 pm

Is Kay particularly annoying tonight? or maybe it's the material: a manufactured controversy about where this or that player should bat, in addition to something or other about ARod.

42 thelarmis   ~  Jul 31, 2010 7:43 pm

motherfucker. fat liar tied it up bottom 9.

fuck!

49 rbj   ~  Jul 31, 2010 7:46 pm

I'll take that.

50 Mattpat11   ~  Jul 31, 2010 7:46 pm

I still want to know what happened to the Phil Coke we had. It was incredibly frustrating at the time, but looking back, there was something hilarious about having a guy whose sole job on the team was to give up homers to lefties

51 thelarmis   ~  Jul 31, 2010 7:49 pm

diane - i found your spellczechs site. i don't see a way to email you from there. am i blind? if cliff has your email, i can get it from him...

69 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:15 pm

I thinking Alex goes dead CF here .... to the warning track.

70 monkeypants   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:16 pm

67) well, it's a big, funny world, i guess.

65) just trying to stay hip and relevant, so i can relate to these kids today with their convertible cars and jazz music.

71 rbj   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:17 pm

[66] Can't blame him.

72 monkeypants   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:18 pm

Javy's not been great but he's hanging in there. But the offense needs to get out of this score every ten innings thing.

73 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:19 pm

[70] Tough to do, Daddy-O..

C'mon Tex, bring some return of the Boom-Bap!

74 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:22 pm

But Michael ... consider the run-scoring environments of Mickey and A-Rod .... Mantle's achievement is harder.

75 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:23 pm

Time to drop Alex to eighth in the order :-)

76 monkeypants   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:24 pm

So they show all of the flashes going off in the stands when the pitcher throws a pitch to ARod. Now my question, does the flash really do anything when you are taking a picture of an object a couple hundred feet away?

77 rbj   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:25 pm

[75] It's getting crowded there, isn't it where Jeter should be hitting now?

It's Cano vs. the Rays.

78 Raf   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:27 pm

[76] No they don't. Chances are it's an automatic setting

79 Raf   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:28 pm

[78] On many of those P&S cameras, you'll have a flash effectiveness of about 6 feet.

80 monkeypants   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:32 pm

77) the Yankees are trying to construct a roster with about seven players rotating into the DH all batting eighth.

81 rbj   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:35 pm

I've got a kitchen to clean. What a wild July Saturday night.

[81] Laundry here! Banter-chore-a-thon!

84 monkeypants   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:51 pm

Is a run scored after a leadoff double a "manufactured run"? More importantly, why am I listening to Michael Kay?

85 monkeypants   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:58 pm

The captain trying to manufacture a run!

86 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 31, 2010 8:58 pm

Let's Go Robbie.

[95] Was that 2nd pitch even a strike?

102 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 31, 2010 9:04 pm

Yeah! Garza with some onions throwing a 2-0 heater, good cut by Robbie.

103 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 31, 2010 9:04 pm

101) I don't think it was...inside.

104 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 31, 2010 9:05 pm

Does he throw a curve, 3-2?

105 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 31, 2010 9:06 pm

Garza shakes off the sign, Cano steps out, back in, fastball, outside corner, puched out. Ouch.

106 monkeypants   ~  Jul 31, 2010 9:06 pm

Funny..cano reacted like he swung at the 2-1 pitch, the pitcher and catcher thought he swung. Only the third base ump called it no swing. No matter, he strikes out looking.

137 monkeypants   ~  Jul 31, 2010 9:51 pm

Ok, let's keep Joyce in the park this time.

138 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 31, 2010 9:56 pm

And kitchen mostly clean (mop the floor tomorrow.)

Good night all.

154 Chyll Will   ~  Jul 31, 2010 10:11 pm

Well alright then >;)

155 jjmerlock   ~  Jul 31, 2010 10:14 pm

Fuck yes.

That was very satisfying.

And not for nothing, but boy would it be nice to be in a spot where we can put one in Joyce's ear. May have to wait for next year. Young man needs some ackrite, though.

Great win.

156 jjmerlock   ~  Jul 31, 2010 10:19 pm

Btw, Loone Bogan rides again! I'm going to keep pushing that one. This new version looks pretty good.

You know what's amazing to think back on? Can you believe there was a time when people didn't want Cano in a trade? That one is hard for me to understand. Maybe it's because I am a lefty with the classic lefty sweet swing (broken down, softball beer league version), but I need to see exactly one swing from young Robinho to see something great. I mean, just seeing something you like, sure it doesn't always pan out, but that ridiculously gorgeous swing... how could you not want that kid???

157 jjmerlock   ~  Jul 31, 2010 10:19 pm

[156] should say "needed to see."

158 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jul 31, 2010 10:34 pm

Hello All,
Very Satisfying Win...V.S.W.

Wonder how Arod feels surrounded in the order by players hitting booming home runs? Happy, but a little green?

How soon do we call for the head of Lance Berkman? Do you miss Nick?

Save for one pitch yesterday, the Yanks would be going for the sweep. Can't wait to read the papers tomorrow.
