Mornin’ Sunshine

Actually, the sun is nowhere to be found this morning in the Bronx. But here’s Glenn Gould playing Bach–The Goldberg Variations, 1-7. A nice way to start the day:

What a kook. Mouthing the music as he plays, too.
But he's arguably the best performer of Bach since Bach.

[1] Couldn't agree more, on both counts. It's really a marvel to watch him at work, though. Ignore his face and concentrate on the hands - I've never seen anyone play with that kind of almost mechanical precision.

Much prefer the High Priestess of Bach, Rosalyn Tureck, to Gould. Will also accept Murray Perahia and, on harpsichord, Wanda Landowska.
