"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Soak it Up

The summer is almost over. The city is relatively quiet. The farmer’s markets are bursting with corn and tomatoes and peaches and all that good stuff.

Javier Vazquez hasn’t impressed lately. Perhaps he turns it around today. We’ll be root, root, rootin’ him on.

Let’s Go Yan-Kees.

I've got a good feeling about this game

2 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:10 pm

Oh Christ.

3 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:10 pm

Well, that didn't take long ...

4 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:12 pm

M's announers said that the Yankees are thinking about DHing Arod. Awesome.

5 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:12 pm

Kay's obsession with velocity, while at the same time trying to say it doesn't matter, is one of worst parts of the YES broadcast every night

6 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:13 pm

[4] I'm assuming that's DL

7 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:14 pm

Well, he hit that one.

8 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:14 pm

Well, at least we got another show from Russell Branyan ...

9 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:14 pm

Well, i got some work to do this afternoon anyway.

10 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:15 pm

6) yeah, sorry about that.

11 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:15 pm

[8] I was there when he hit the restaurant.

12 RagingTartabull   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:16 pm

[11] me too, this right now was scarier though...wow

13 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:16 pm

Does the curse work for two solo homers in the first inning, or only for a two-run homer?

14 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:16 pm

Holy shit...that was a third deck shot!! I didn't realize that when i first saw branyan's hr.

15 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:16 pm

[4] I'd much rather they put him on the DL then keep fucking around.

16 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:17 pm

[15] Honestly, yeah. That's A LOT of Ramiro Pena, but you have to hope you can muddle through

17 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:18 pm

13) does the curse work on the other team?

18 Diane Firstman   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:19 pm

fastball topping out at 88 on gameday ... one touched 90

19 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:20 pm

Jomerun Javy actually has a worst homer rate this year than 04.

20 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:20 pm

15) i agree entirely, but unfortunately they already fucked around, and now they have cost him an extra week or so on the DL. As I posted on a previous thread, the ol' Sheffield DL Shuffle.

16) did you see RiverAveBlues evaluation of Peña? My favorite part was when they suggested that if not for the risk of injury, it made more sense to DH for Peña and let the pitcher bat for himself. And they meant it.

21 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:21 pm

I could have sworn I saw Jason Vargas in the Bronx last year.

22 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:22 pm

Jeter channels his inner Gritner.

23 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:23 pm

[17] Yeah, it worked on Thursday, when Cabrera took Phil deep in the first -- remember?

24 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:23 pm

[21] I did. I know I'm not losing my mind.

25 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:24 pm

[22] Why no Gritner today, by the way?

26 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:25 pm

Vazquez and Burnett in the playoffs, if the Yankees make it, are going to be a thrill a minute.

27 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:27 pm

[23] You should have seen me at that point too. It felt like it was 300 degrees in the Stadium, Phil was taking seemingly minutes to throw awful waste pitches, and it all ended with a homer.

I was displeased.

28 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:28 pm

23) right...actually I missed most of that game.

Yay! robbie! Maybe the curse does work with two solo HRs.

29 Diane Firstman   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:29 pm

per Jack Curry:
Here's your crazy stat of the day. Without A-Rod in lineup, the Yankees are 10-0 and have averaged 8.1 runs per game.

30 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:30 pm

Anyone else surprised to see McAllister end up being the PTBNL in the Kearns deal?

Also, considering what they were willing to deal for Kearns, why didn't they go after Branyan (assuming they didn't).

31 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:31 pm

[30] Was Seattle even willing to deal Branyan? They had just gotten him for no discernible reason.

32 Diane Firstman   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:31 pm

homerdome!

33 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:31 pm

Yeah, i like this better. Maybe that weekend work will have to wait until after the game.

34 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:32 pm

Now we just have to have Javy hold them down.

....

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha

35 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:32 pm

[29] An injured Arod in the cleanup spot is a drag on the offense, so replacing him with Cano's production makes a positive impact. Maybe the Yankees should consider a revamped lineup with both Arod and Jeter moved out of their normal slots (until Arod is healthy and Jeter shows signs of breaking out)?

36 RagingTartabull   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:33 pm

[30, 31] yeah I don't see Seattle being willing to give up Branyan. Now on planet Earth that makes no sense, but Big Jackie Z. wants nothing to do with our pitiful human logic.

37 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:33 pm

[31] I mean from Cleveland. Seattle, who was going nowhere, acquired him for next to nothing. Why weren't the Yankees in on that action?

38 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:34 pm

I was watching the World Series Film Collection last night. Ken Singleton looks exactly like he did in 1983

39 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:34 pm

30) my guess, also, is that the Yankees wanted more OF defense flexibility, though I don't know if branyan was even on the market.

As for macallister, for how many years do the yankees still have him under control?

40 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:36 pm

He probably would not have caught it anyway, but Granderson took a really bad route on that ball.

41 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:37 pm

[37] Yankees probably weren't thinking bench help in mid June

What the hell was that?

42 Diane Firstman   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:37 pm

[40]

he has a tendency for bad routes and stumbles ...

43 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:38 pm

[39] And what is his ceiling? I asked this around the days of the Haren trade and people seemed to think he was a back end starter

44 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:39 pm

[39] Why would they need OF flexibility when they needed a DH. Branyan would have been a better option than Berkman, and they could have had him several weeks earlier.

I think they could keep McAllister in the minors for two more full seasons. If he was promoted, they would control him for six years.

45 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:44 pm

44) what time frame are you looking at? Do you mean why did the yankees not go after Branyan in June, or why did they not pursue him at the deadline? By the time of the deadline it was pretty clear they were looking for a DH (Berkman) and then for a BUOF (Kearns). As a BUOF, Kearns offers more flexibility than Branyan.

Now, if you are talking about what the Yankees did or didn't do in June, I have no idea. Maybe they did make an offer. It's sort of hard to prove, and therefore analyze, one way or another.

46 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:44 pm

[44] The Yankees for a long time didn't think they needed a DH

47 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:48 pm

[41] They should have been. That's the problem with this team this year. They haven't anticipated much.

The trade was June 29, by which poin the Yankees should have known they needed a lefty DH.

48 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:49 pm

[43] Back end starter is about right. Stuff is unexceptional and there's always been a concern that a lack of a true out pitch was going to catch up with him.. He's been awful this year and the Yankees have better options ahead of and (especially) behind him.

He's lucky to get traded to Cleveland, he might get a chance to pitch, assuming he can master AAA.

49 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:49 pm

WTF, is Ichiro trying to spite me?

50 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:49 pm

Vazquez is awful. Not only is he doing his best to sink another Yankee season, he is going to cost the team two draft picks.

51 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:50 pm

Jomerun Javy makes me want to Jurl.

52 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:50 pm

It's the equivalent of a perfect game!

53 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:51 pm

48) was he on the 40-man roster? If so, it makes sense to move him...if the team had soured on him...to free up a spot. Otherwise, even as a dubious prospect it *might* have made sense to stash him in AAA for another year.

54 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:53 pm

I leave for a few minutes and Jome Run Javy returns

55 RagingTartabull   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:54 pm

[50] you know he didn't cost them '04, give Tom Gordon and Kevin Brown credit where it's due

56 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:54 pm

[45] I mean in June (and I said this at the time, so it's not second guessing after 3 HRs this weekend). The Mariners gave the Indians nothng, so I don't see how the Yankees could have lost out in the bidding. Maybe Cashman didn't know he was available, but there were some grumblings that Cleveland was looking to dump, so that's on him if he never approached the Indians.

57 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:55 pm

[53] He was on the 40-man and would need to be protected, but did he really fall from the best pitching prospect in the organization to a PTBNL? I guess so.

58 RagingTartabull   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:56 pm

wow I just realized Lester started that game for Boston last night...woof!

59 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:56 pm

[55] Javy did his part.

60 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:57 pm

Well, if nothing else, he;s not getting dinked and donked to death

61 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:57 pm

[55] There is blame to spread around, but alot belongs in Vazquez' lap. He was signed to be a front of the rotation starter and was awful down the stretch. This year, we are getting another dose. Vazquez needs to find a bad team somewhere and win his 15 games.

62 RagingTartabull   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:57 pm

[59] oh he helped, I just don't think he deserves "the blame"...we were all there, we all know it was a team effort.

63 seamus   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:58 pm

javy was lights out for a while there. he needs a rest or something.

64 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:59 pm

At this point, I'd be willing to put Javy on the DL with his dead arm and give Nova three starts. If anything, maybe three less bad starts will save his type-A or type-b status.

65 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:59 pm

We're not seriously going to skip Hughes in a pennant race for this clown show, are we?

66 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 1:59 pm

I'm concerned that one of the next three homers off Javy he gives up today will not be a solo.

67 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:00 pm

Jesus Christ, Ivan Nova can't be called up fast enough.

68 rbj   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:00 pm

[64] I'd be willing to drive Javy out to the middle of the Mojave desert -- and leave him there.

69 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:01 pm

Bullpen should have been up earlier. Vazquez has no confidence and should be DLed until Sept. 1.

70 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:01 pm

JV fucking sucks. Bigtime. Go back to Fucking Atlanta. Or Chicagao. Or wherever. Your junkballing style just aint doing it. You may be a nice guy, but you suck.
But at least he was able to help settle the great upper deck debate, eh william? : )

71 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:01 pm

So, does Pavano come back next year for the "Everything old is new again" tour that brought back Johnson and Vazquez?

72 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:02 pm

64,65) either on LoHud or RiverAveBlues, they reported that Nova was going to get called up in September and make three starts or so. Presumably the plan ismto uae him to spot Hughes, but I wonder if they will think about skipping Javy once or twice.

73 RagingTartabull   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:03 pm

[61] they traded for him, not "signed" so its not really like he had a say in the matter. he never was a true front end guy in Montreal, so thats on the Yankees for inexplicably overrating him.

74 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:03 pm

[72] I think this team loses the division if we skip Hughes. Moseley, Burnett, Vazquez and a question mark might just be too much to overcome.

75 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:04 pm

69) i can't comment on his confidence...who knows what lurks in the hearts of men...but it is objectively clear that he has no velocity on his fastball.

76 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:05 pm

[73] That was also during the period where whomever was making the decisions never looked beyond what happened the year before, and in 2003, Javy probably was a front end starter.

77 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:06 pm

[74] If they skip Hughes, they skip him once or twice. I mean, they may well lose the division, but it's unlikely to turn on whether Hughes is skipped.

78 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:08 pm

[72] I'm guessing the plan was to spot Nova for Hughes and Javy, even before today's start. It would be nice that *after* today's start, they move the timetable for implementing the plan up.

Sept 1 seems a looooong ways away.

79 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:08 pm

73) but the Yankees weren't the only ones...guys like Neyer and Goldman and even the writers of this site were, as I recall, pretty excited about adding a 27 y.o. pitcher who had completed seasons with ERA+ 119, 130, 109, 132 the previousmfour years.

Just about everything pointed to future ace, not Home Run Javy.

80 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:10 pm

boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

81 RagingTartabull   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:10 pm

well choosing THAT as the moment to pull him is...interesting

82 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:10 pm

Jorrible.

Fucking Jorrible.

83 Diane Firstman   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:10 pm

I'm sorry / that was NOT a hit

84 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:11 pm

[81] Might as well. Don't want to bring Gaudin in with the bases loaded anyway

85 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:11 pm

77) agreed, they only need to skip him once, probably, to keep him under his presumed innings limit. Given Hughes's struggles that may have been linked to being skipped before, I wonder if a better plan would be to marry Hughes and Nova, and pull Hughes after only three or four innings for a couple of starts?

86 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:12 pm

[84] No, the usual practice is to allow Chad to load them all by himself.

87 RagingTartabull   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:13 pm

[76] right, it was (for all intents and purposes) a Pettitte-for-Vazquez trade. Which turned out to be just as bad an idea as it sounds, but I'm not gonna blame Vazquez for just being what he is in the AL East which is at the very best when everything is clicking right a 4 starter.

I just hate when people throw '04 on him because that lets way too many people who contributed to that disaster off the hook. That was a dead team walking way before Damon took Javy off the foul pole.

88 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:13 pm

81) you can't let Javy give up a third HR to Ichiro, right? Hoo boy.

89 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:14 pm

[85] Oh God. Because that was such a brilliant strategy last year. Why don't we just hit him in the ribs with a bat and be done with it. He gets to stay under the innings limit, I don't have to watch a circus side show, we're all happy.

90 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:16 pm

89) when was that strategy used last year?

91 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:16 pm

[90] Joba.

92 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:17 pm

[79] Vazquez is one of those pitchers for whom stats do not tell the whole story. I really think Guillen was right. When the going gets tough, Javy gets going.

93 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:17 pm

The genius that is Joe Girardi again manifests.

94 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:19 pm

[87] Javy's 2004 was fine until he decided to pitch through his shoulder problem without telling the team. I mean the man made the All Star team: 10-5 3.56 era, 1.154 WHIP, 7.2 K/9.

That's not an ace, but that's good enough to be a #2 or #3.

95 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:19 pm

92) that may be the case, but it would have been impossible to know that in 2003-2004, before he had a chance to pitch outside of Montreal, where he looked like an ace in the making.

96 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:20 pm

[94] Honest question. Did anyone other than Javier Vazquez ever confirm that Javy had a hidden shoulder injury?

97 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:22 pm

96) if it was hidden, how could anyone else confirm it?

98 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:22 pm

[97] I assume he had to take a physical when he was traded.

99 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:22 pm

[94] [96] Was going to say the same thing. Remember, Vazquez had to pass a physical only months after the season. I don't recall the Dbacks being concerned about his shoulder.

[95] I am talking about now, not the first time around, so I agree.

100 seamus   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:24 pm

i hate when the banter turns into whine central.

106 JeremyM   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:34 pm

OK, here's the plan. Get the lead, get through the 6th somehow, and then bring in Sergio for the 3-inning save.

107 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:38 pm

[106] I like the first two elements.

108 Jon DeRosa   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:39 pm

i think burnett has pitched OK a few times recently - that last game vs KC was pretty good. if he's just typically inconsistent from here on out, he still will get the ball in october. (not saying that's a godd thing, just what will happen given the options)

javy vazquez would have to throw 7 straight no-hitters to get an alds start.

right now, going to minnesota for the ALDS, they can hit. i think CC wins his game(s), but the twins win the other three.

109 RagingTartabull   ~  Aug 21, 2010 2:44 pm

[108] of all the Yankees possible opponents, Minnesota scares me the least. Maybe I shouldn't feel that way, but with no Morneau and Pavano being a game 1 starter (I know he's having a great year, but still) I'd much rather take my chances with them than Texas.

The Rangers I could see pulling a '02 Angels.

[121] Good god, let's hope so. It's almost impossible for him to be worse.

And let's hope that Girardi gives Nunez most (I'd prefer 'all') of the starts, not just against LHP.

[129]

hey there kiddo ... what was the name of that pizza joint we went to?

135 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:15 pm

133) good for him. He was frustrating to watch, but I never felt particular animus toward him.

136 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:16 pm

Start the runners on 3-1?

137 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:17 pm

Cap'n!!!!

138 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:17 pm

This is shaping up nicely.

139 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:17 pm

Hm, Nunñez for Peña. Sure, they could re-use the tilde.

Speaking of the Ms' bullpen, is Jamey Wright the best they could come up with in this situation?

CAPTAIN!

140 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:17 pm

Aha!

Send runners = no DP!!

141 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:18 pm

[136] Look at you, you're getting all Joe Madden!

142 thelarmis   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:18 pm

[134] hi! we went to a place called Everybody's Pizza, which is more like a "restaurant." my regular "pizza joint" - for straight up slices, which we passed - is called Fellini's. but we ate at Everybody's...and it was yummy! : )

oh, my best friend saw Rush at Red Rocks last week. of course, i got a glowing report! i'm sure they were *amazing*...

143 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:18 pm

And yeah, I would send Jeter here for sure.

144 thelarmis   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:18 pm

single them into oblivion!

145 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:19 pm

141) I'm just trying to take it one at bat at a time...let's not start comparing me to the great chessmasters of our time.

146 Diane Firstman   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:20 pm

[142]

is this the time to share the picture? :-)

147 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:20 pm

[143] Awesome!

148 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:21 pm

[146] SHARE THE PICTURE.
Do it. Just do it now.

149 Diane Firstman   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:21 pm

[144]

Release the Teixeira!

150 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:21 pm

Greenlight!

151 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:22 pm

That will do.

152 Diane Firstman   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:23 pm

[151]

not to be confused with "That will do, Pig ... that will do."

153 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:26 pm

Here's to you, Mr. Robertson.

154 thelarmis   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:26 pm

[146] um, okay, i guess.

but i'm about to go back to sleep. so i won't be around to defend myself!

155 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:27 pm

[153] It's going to be awesome when Jesus catches for him.

156 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:27 pm

Bad Dave.

157 thelarmis   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:27 pm

ooh, i hate when their leadoff guy gets on. at least it wasn't a walk!

158 Diane Firstman   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:28 pm

[154]

LOL .... its just you and real food .... :-)

159 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:30 pm

Whew.
I was worried. Good Boone + Good Chad might => Bad Dave.

160 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:32 pm

Those inside lowish pitches were strikes.

161 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:32 pm

[155] He loves him more than you could know.
Lay out, Brett!

162 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:34 pm

[161] Brett's no Joe DiMaggio.

163 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:35 pm

Really, Joe. Oy!

164 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:36 pm

One can never really complain about bringing in Mo, but did they really need to lift Robertson right here?

165 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:39 pm

Well, D-Rob had thrown 20 pitches. He does fade quickly.
I don't mind this move.

166 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:46 pm

The wave is retarded.

167 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:49 pm

165) i had not noticed that he fades quickly...if that's the case, then the move probably made good sense.

168 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:49 pm

Whoo-hooo.
E3.

169 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:50 pm

Holy shit, Posada scored on that? i figured he would have stopped at third after somehow misreading the line drive.

170 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:51 pm

Surely Granderson runs here.

171 rbj   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:51 pm

So that's why Joe went with Mo, because now it wouldn't be a save situation.

172 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:52 pm

Peña with the RBI!! What a weird looking play.

173 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:52 pm

Methinks Ichiro would make a mighty fine shortstop.

174 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:52 pm

[171] Why do we even try to understand his grandmasterly ways? It's so humbling.

175 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:53 pm

171) ex ellent. I hadn't thought of that. See, i'm not yet a chessmaster.

176 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:53 pm

Wait?

Coffee Joe pinch hit Pena for Nunez?

Sigh.

177 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:56 pm

If I took a test on the rules of the save I would have an epic fail.
The old caught looking trick. 1 down.

178 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:57 pm

176) but Peña got the RBI, right? You really should not question the master. Rather, sit at his feet and learn.

179 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 3:57 pm

[176] Nope, defensive substitution. That is, Ramiro came in at the top of the eighth.

180 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 4:00 pm

179) even more masterful!!

181 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 4:00 pm

How the hell does a lefty hit a Rivera cutter in on his hands for a line drive to the opposite field? That doesn't happen.

Ichiro is just different.

182 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 4:01 pm

CHOAD! Fuck him.

183 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 4:01 pm

Does Granderson a poor jump on every shallow fly ball?

184 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 4:01 pm

Damn.

185 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 4:03 pm

Grandersonapoorjump = pastadivingjeter. : )
Yikes. That was weird.

186 Just Fair   ~  Aug 21, 2010 4:04 pm

9-5. What a way to make a living.

187 rbj   ~  Aug 21, 2010 4:09 pm

Nice win. Only thing to worry about is Javy coming back in 5 days.

188 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2010 4:27 pm

A-Rod to the DL.
Ivan Nova up to take his roster spot. (Per Chad Jennings)

189 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2010 4:32 pm

188) awesome...13 pitchers and two BUIF....and ARod has ro stay on the DL longer because they played him yesterday.

190 JeremyM   ~  Aug 21, 2010 4:47 pm

[189] Yeah, I'm not sure why they didn't just do it at the outset and let him heal. Very odd.
