whaddaya say, aj.i.am. throw some black eyed peas tonight!

2 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:05 pm

W for the Yankees tonight.

3 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:15 pm

[3] Off to a bad start.

4 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:16 pm

All in all, I'll take that.

5 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:20 pm

[3] [4] 1 run isn't too bad.

6 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:21 pm

[5] [6] Toooptimistic.

Hey, if Jonathan Papelbon gives up a run in his next 1-inning appearance, his ERA will be exactly 4. That would be cool.

7 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:35 pm

HEY!!!!!!!
Don't everybody talk at once.
Small audience considering how important this and tomorrow's games are.

8 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:37 pm

[7] Gotta say, OYK, I'm not convinced these games are that important. I think it would be great if the Yanks won the AL East, but I haven't given much thought to whether it really matters or not. Either in terms of who they face (Rangers or Twins), and whether they are home or on the road more. Most of the stuff I've seen suggests, in the abstract, there is a small homefield advantage in the playoffs, but I haven't looked at anything in detail.

9 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:38 pm

[7] [8] And I have no idea how the K got in there. Sorry 'bout that, OYF.

10 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:44 pm

[7] Sorry. Just been paying some bills.

11 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:44 pm

The answer is that AJ is a headcase.

12 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:45 pm

Hello, quiet tonight, quiet lately. When i started this year, commonly there would be over 1000 posts. Maybe in the playoffs...

The Yankee organization should want to win the division. The extra game revenue of ticket sales and concessions is worth 7 figures.

Just got here, how did the run score?

13 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:49 pm

[12] That's a good point about the extra revenue - though of course it presumes the series goes the limit, which isn't a guarantee. I wonder if its worth more to have players rested and healthy(er)?

As for the run, a single, a walk, and a lllllooonnnnggg sac fly to CF.

14 Diane Firstman   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:53 pm

rainstorm coming towards bronx .... in bergen county right now ... estimated 45 minute delay

15 Diane Firstman   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:54 pm

RT @PeteAbe: In 325 career relief app., Papelbon has allowed 3 or more earned runs 6 times. Five of those games are this year.

16 Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:55 pm

I liked that "look what I found" stab by AJ. : )

17 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:57 pm

[14] Ugh. 45 minutes will knock the starters out. Maybe Yanks can get 5 innings from AJ?

Then who's available in the pen tonight.

18 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 22, 2010 7:59 pm

[8] [13] I don't want the Yanks to go balls to the wall, but the Division would be nice because:
1) The extra revenue (not that we care)
2) The Twins have 2 lights out lefties, and have been 43-18 of late.
3) Hamilton might play, but he ain't 100%. I think we match up much better against the Rangers
4) Of course, Home field advantage.

19 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:01 pm

Oh well.

20 Diane Firstman   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:01 pm

Off to watch Mythbusters for a while

21 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:02 pm

TB must have tons of young arms in the BP...

22 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:02 pm

Probably cold cuts after the rain delay, huh?

23 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:06 pm

I don't mind losing Burnett, but I'd be glad to see Davis go.

24 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:16 pm

[23] I'm with you there on Davis, but who goes long for the Yanks? Not Javy, not Nova, Moseley?

25 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:20 pm

[24] Probably Mitre

26 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:29 pm

Ahem. [23]. Cold cuts = meat tray.

27 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:30 pm

[25] I'd rather see Brackman ...

28 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:31 pm

[26] Ah, so!

Went over my head the first time, it did!

29 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:35 pm

Uh.
Is my numbering different from everyone else's??
I see my comment starting with "Ahem" as #27, but cult seems to be referring to it as 26. And Kenboyermademecry seems to be using [23] to refer to what looks to me like [24] (Mattpat's).

30 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:35 pm

[26] Good thing he's pitched like 1x in the last month ... rest is ALWAYS better for sinkerball pitchers ...

31 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:36 pm

[29] Odd. Your "Ahem" post is #26 to me, at least.

32 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:39 pm

Your “Ahem” post is #26 to me too.

33 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:40 pm

Wow, that's weird. And what you referred to as [29] is [30] to me. But I just looked and I see a comment for every number. So you must be missing one of the ones I'm seeing.

34 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:41 pm

Oh, I see what's going on.
I submitted a comment, which I am seeing as #2, but it is "awaiting moderation". (It has a couple of anchor tag references to Deadspin, because I was letting everyone know that FJM Reunion is up there today.)

35 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:48 pm

i'm so confused, and getting infused, and losing my enthuse for this game. Cold Cuts=Meat Tray=Mitre. Very clever.

36 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:49 pm

[34] FJM are coming back?? I love those guys, is this only a one time thing? I don't like Deadspin at all but will check this out..

Rainy day here too...grumble grumble...riveting Mariners - Blue Jays on tv...

37 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:53 pm

Checking the radar, ahem. The tail end of the rain is currently in Paterson, NJ. Another 30 minutes till baseball.

38 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 22, 2010 8:57 pm

[36] FJM, Fire Joe Morgan?

39 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2010 9:05 pm

[36] I think it's just a one time thing. I was at the reference desk while reading the Bill Conlin take down. Only made it half way through -- I was laughing too much. It's a winning piece.

40 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2010 9:21 pm

Yes, Fire Joe Morgan. And yes, it's just a one-time thing, although I believe they did it last year so maybe it's an annual thing.

The Conlin one is good. And the Eckstein one is a classic. And the one entitled "Is this normal?" is also excellent.

41 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2010 9:23 pm

yeah, this is the FJM re-reunion at deadspin. it's been going on every year for the past one years, as it states there.

great stuff, but really time consuming to read everything...

[42] oh, thanks bro! but my ears are shot right now. i'm in the midst of incredibly long recording sessions and i'm complete toast. back at it tomorrow. and the next day... : ~

that conlin piece was indeed hilarious...

46 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2010 9:49 pm

[45] Well, listen to it afterwards then, *LOVE* that song ... you probably will too!

47 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 10:05 pm

Royce Ring?

51 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 10:10 pm

Kay seems more annoying post rain delay.

52 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 22, 2010 10:12 pm

Hell, ick son, what smells?

53 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 10:14 pm

I will give Girardi this. When I saw Ring called up, I thought he was going to do the stupid shit where we go through six relievers in four innings with regularity again.

54 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 22, 2010 10:17 pm

Rookie phenom pitcher. Yankee trouble.

55 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 10:18 pm

Did Royce Ring gain some weight?

56 Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2010 10:23 pm

You can't have a FJM get together without a "scrappy" David Eckstein takedown. Too funnny.
Rolls on Royce. Or something like that. : )

57 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 10:24 pm

Okay. Now lets get a god damned hit

58 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2010 10:26 pm

[55] 1/2 Mike Mussina ... 1/2 Lance Berkman!!!!

59 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2010 10:28 pm

Damn. Well positioned.

60 Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2010 10:29 pm

[62] Bringing up Millie Vanilli titles?

70 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:01 pm

Mark Feinsand declared Berkman this year's Aaron Boone.

Does that mean he'll do nothing from this point out, get on hit in the ALCS and be a huge reason we lose the World Series?

71 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:01 pm

Oh well.

72 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:02 pm

christ almighty.

74 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:03 pm

Sergio Mitre came in to lose a game just last week, Michael. Is that not enough?

75 JeremyM   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:04 pm

[69] Girl.. I mean boy, you know it's true....

Mosely, ouch.

76 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:06 pm

Oh look, Chad Gaudin.

Does one team really need Javy Vazquez, Chad Gaudin, Dustin Moseley and Sergio Mitre?

77 JeremyM   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:07 pm

[76] Nobody deserves such an abundance of riches.

78 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:09 pm

also, calm down, sut.

88 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:31 pm

I really, really dislike Chad Gaudin.

89 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:32 pm

sut: "he'll probably win a gold glove because of his defense."

okay. i figured he'd win the gold glove because of his homerun and two stolen bases.

fuck you, chad gonad.

90 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:33 pm

Is Gaudin a free agent after this year?

(Please say yes)

91 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:34 pm

ooh, i hope grandy didn't hurt a rib on that. he winced...

92 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:34 pm

The Yanks should have left Ring Lardner in.

93 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:35 pm

[91] Seriously. Don't hurt yourself for this game,

94 seamus   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:35 pm

I really don't like the use of Gaudin here at all.

95 seamus   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:36 pm

[94] and by saying that i realize i'm just making a statement that could be said at any time of any game.

96 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:37 pm

[91] I hope so too. Should he have risked injury in this game that the Yankees are no longer playing to win?

We've all been wincing.

97 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 22, 2010 11:37 pm

[94] Eh.
