Scout's Honor

According to George King, Joba Chamberlain looks top notch to scouts. Good news, indeed.

Good for Joba. Has he given up the chew?

As for baseball news, Bond's defense took another shot, eh? Not sure how they will argue the negative, but evidence starting to add up. Last decision, and the only one that matters to me, because I think this is a total and complete waste of time, energy, and court resources, is whether Bonds testifies. I also have this dream that Anderson decides to take the stand, saying how tired he is of going to jail because of his abhorrence of the justice system and says that he didn't give anyone steroids. On a realistic level, neither is likely, even in the fairy tale universe of trials of testimonial crimes. No matter what, when a trial over lying about false oaths ends, you sometimes wonder, if the Government couldn't convict the person of the underlying crime, why or how convicting them of being dishonest about what happened or what they did (remember the Fifth) when questioned by someone with questionable motives in front of a Grand Jury hand picked to believe the prosecutor and produce an indictment allowing the case to go forward or to make a case where one might not yet have existed, promotes some supportable interest of justice. Its like bringing an ethics proceeding for conduct unbecoming with the chance of jail.

"Johnny, did you eat that cookie? "....!" "Now, if you tell the truth, I won't have to ask your brother and get him to snitch on you. If you don't and I can prove you are lying, you are going to be very sorry. I will ruin your reputation, your relationships with friends and family, and any chance you have of earning the respect of the community, despite your otherwise impressive contributions to the love of the game, including your ability to earn more living or be honored with an image, a building named in your honor, or a scholarship. Will the foreperson please swear in the witness."

Trade Joba NOW, while his stock is as high as it's going to get.

Good. Trade him.

I don't think you can trade Joba now and risk not having the sixth inning locked down.
