Nice rip from The Captain.

8 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 4:11 pm

Just purchased MLB.tv (for the first time in several years), just in time for a 10:00 pm (European time) start and a nice poke by Jeter. Ahhh..

the painting is just...wow...

tex go BOOM!!!

15 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 4:15 pm

[12] I'm in Germany for a year. That's why I have been so scarce the last month or two.

16 RagingTartabull   ~  May 30, 2011 4:15 pm

bold prediction time: A-Rod is gonna bust out big time in June

17 Alex Belth   ~  May 30, 2011 4:16 pm

Oh, Robbie.

18 Just Fair   ~  May 30, 2011 4:16 pm

Oh, Robbie. Great hit. Stupid baserunning.

19 RagingTartabull   ~  May 30, 2011 4:16 pm

everything about that is Cano in a nutshell

20 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 4:17 pm

Nice play by the Oakland IF catching Cano. Otherwise the Yanks are pounding Cahill this inning.

21 Ken Arneson   ~  May 30, 2011 4:19 pm

[5] Cahill is apparently still spooked by the Yankee unis, because he looks like crap against them for the third straight time. He's a sinkerballer and he's overthrowing and leaving his sinker up.

Three runs ought to enough to win against the A's.

22 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 4:22 pm

Bartolo Colon is third on the All-Time Dominican RP wins list, "right behind" (by about 70 wins) Pedro Martinez...

Come on boys, there has to be something better to talk about here in the first inning.

23 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 4:25 pm

I admit that I have developed an irrational dislike of Frankie Cervelli.

24 Ken Arneson   ~  May 30, 2011 4:28 pm

That second pitch to Swisher was the first normal-looking sinker Cahill has thrown today.

25 Just Fair   ~  May 30, 2011 4:41 pm

Other teams can squander lead off doubles, too. Nice.

26 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 4:41 pm

Nice play by ARod and Teix.

27 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 4:53 pm

Uh-oh...I seem to have broken the Banter.

28 Just Fair   ~  May 30, 2011 5:06 pm

The Colon special. Love that pitch.

29 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 5:12 pm

It's sad to see Jeter walk so much.

Hi, monkeypants!

30 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 5:16 pm

[29] It's like he's not even trying to hit the ball, but too arrogant to admit it.

31 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 5:21 pm

the bart-man kicks ass!

monkeypants!!!

32 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 5:25 pm

[30] It's a moral and aesthetic fiasco.

Hi thelarmis!
Marimba all done?

33 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 5:27 pm

i just put on Tower of Power's famous album: Back To Oakland

Oakland Stroke...David Garibaldi is a complete drum *genius*

34 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 5:28 pm

Oh, and hi Ken. Probably too late. But good luck to the A's, starting later this week.

35 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 5:31 pm

[32] hi RI!

yup, marimba is done. but i'm about to put it back together here in my den. major pain in the arse. and there's one part that's quite frustrating to do without help. then, i need to pack the unwieldy cases in the auto and get 'em back to my drum studio, where i need to practice auxiliary percussion parts for next weekend's recording sessions. whew...

and, of course, i have loads of marimba to practice once it's set up. i have a brand new batch of material for the 3rd cd and i need to keep up with it before i hit the road. and i've got 30 tunes to chart for tour.

i'm teaching a ton though, so there's not a lot of time. i especially shouldn't be doing things like reading baseball articles, following games and posting on a blog. you'll have that...

36 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 5:37 pm

Come on, Toad, spin one in there!

37 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 5:38 pm

Good work, whew.

38 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 5:41 pm

this game is moving right along...

39 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 5:45 pm

[38] It's moving at Nuñez speed, except when the A's get a man on base.

40 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 5:47 pm

Make that Gardner speed.

41 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 5:52 pm

i love the double steal!

jeter came thru, but i was hoping for a hit, so i could write:

Chai!!!

oh vell...

42 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 5:53 pm

Gardner's legs and Coco's noodle arm saved a point or two on Jeter's average.

43 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 30, 2011 6:00 pm

[42] Guten Morgen, Doktor! Err..I guess it's still midnight over there..I need some espresso..
Why are they playing at 4pm on a Monday?

[0] That painting is hysterical.

44 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 6:02 pm

[42] But not on his OBP. Sad.

45 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 6:02 pm

Hello, Mr. OK Jazz. Damn, thelarmis, the foreigners might outnumber us soon.

46 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 6:05 pm

[43] Memorial Day.

47 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:05 pm

bart-man friggin' ROCKS!!!

[45] on memorial day, no less...

48 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 6:07 pm

I have to say, MLB.tv seems to have improved by leaps and bounds since I last subscribed five years ago or so.

49 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 30, 2011 6:09 pm

[48] It's MUCH better. They finally figured out how to hide the scoreboard too when entering the archive.
[46] Memorial Day, forgot! Start of summer..and rainy season here.

Sucks seeing Matsui in that A's uniform.

50 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 6:12 pm

Yes, Memorial Day. I'm grilling peppers, and soon there will be sausages. (In fact I might bag the end of the game and move to the final stage...
Oh, but not until Rob hits a triple.

51 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 6:13 pm

Colon is so ugly that he really should be on the Red Sox. I mean, I'm glad he's not, but aesthetically...

52 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 6:18 pm

Might I see an elusive complete game?

53 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:22 pm

ladies, gentleman, foreigners and RI:

we have MARIMBA!!!

yay : )

oh, and 'tolo pretty much rules!

('tolo - i dig it.)

54 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:23 pm

[52] i'd love it. i was thinking about it. and we really should. but he's at 96 pitches and GI Joe's gonna keep saying that "The 'Tolo" could blow up at any minute, so he'll pull him. pendleton pitched yesterday. maybe we'll see noesi for the 9th...

55 Just Fair   ~  May 30, 2011 6:26 pm

Bartolo!

56 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 6:26 pm

[54] Who the hell is Pendleton? Have I been gone that long?

57 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:28 pm

i love the ZERO walks from The 'Tolo!

58 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:29 pm

[56] lance. he's a minor league we brought up for mop-up type duties. he's done pretty well, actually. but he's a non-essential piece.

yeah, i guess you've been gone a minute, huh!

59 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:29 pm

take that monkeypants! ; )

60 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 6:31 pm

[59] Yeah, Cervelli is killing me this game!

61 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:33 pm

the 'Tolo to finish it out!

62 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:36 pm

nice, 'tolo.

now secure the shutout!

63 Mattpat11   ~  May 30, 2011 6:37 pm

Hooray!

64 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:37 pm

The 'TOLO with the shutout!!!

103 efficient pitches. ZERO walks.

65 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 6:38 pm

Yay.

66 Ken Arneson   ~  May 30, 2011 6:41 pm

Colon isn't throwing as hard as he used to, but that was the best command I've ever seen from him. He was painting the corners all afternoon. Sure, it's just the A's, but with command like that, he'd have beaten anyone today.

67 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:41 pm

[65] i have a good friend in Berlin. i haven't been, but hear it's a beautiful city.

68 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 6:43 pm

Bartolocolonoyoudon't!

Good game.

Mattpat, you are a good sport today. Or was that despite Cervelli?

69 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 6:44 pm

[67] We haven't made it there yet...still settling in. I have a couple of friends there, though, so I should make a few trips soon enough.

70 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:46 pm

[69] nice. glad you have your fam with you! do you go back to canada in a year? hell, i'm headed on the road for 6 weeks and that seems long to me. i'm not a big fan of travel; i'm a homebody...

71 monkeypants   ~  May 30, 2011 6:51 pm

Yep...back home in a year. Then who knows where next!

72 thelarmis   ~  May 30, 2011 6:53 pm

[71] as long as you stick around the banter!

travel safely & enjoy! : )

73 Boatzilla   ~  May 30, 2011 9:15 pm

Wow. I slept through this one. I guess it's Memorial Day in the States? Seems like a great win and a pitching gem, and...

Bomb Pops! Man I haven't had one of those in 35 years or more. I was trying to explain to my daughter what one is, the other day.

Thanks for the illustration, Alex.

74 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 9:19 pm

Ooooh, Lestah tagged for 7 ER in 5.2 IP. (Dan Wheeler allowed two Lestah-inherited runners to score.)

7-3 Pale over Crimson going to the bottom of the sixth.

75 OldYanksFan   ~  May 30, 2011 9:19 pm

Lester charged with 7 runs. Boston losing to the other Sox, 7-3 after 5.5 innings.

76 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 9:36 pm

Damn, you were seconds too late, OYF.

77 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 30, 2011 9:53 pm

[74,5,6] Lester is great but he is prone to the longball, 10 already in 70 IP this year. Though maybe that's Fenway.

78 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 9:56 pm

Two good stories today about two loudmouths, albeit loudmouths of very different kinds.

1. John Danks sounds off about Jose Bautista's body language. Short version: Danks is one of those a$$holes who feels very strongly about the unwritten rules, especially the ones nobody else seems to know.

2. Ozzie being Ozzie. (Esp. the tweet, it's awesome.)

79 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 10:03 pm

Oh, my comment is awaiting moderation. Well, I tried to post a couple of links, one to John Danks' righteous indignation over Jose Bautista's flouting of the Unwritten Rules, and another to Ozzie G's recent rant. I hope that comment makes it through, but if not the two rants are quite Google-able.

80 OldYanksFan   ~  May 30, 2011 10:11 pm

[76] DAMN MY DIAL-UP LINE!!!!!!!!!!

81 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 30, 2011 10:13 pm

[79] OYF, there's a website called "Ask Jeeves" where you can find information on upgrading your connection.

[78] John Danks is a dweeeb..try winning a game before spouting off about Bautista.

82 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 10:18 pm

Ah, I see the White Sox have a lefty specialist, too. His job is to come into the game in a tough situation and walk David Ortiz. Let's see if he can walk Crawford, too.

83 RIYank   ~  May 30, 2011 10:19 pm

Uh. Now I have another comment awaiting moderation, but I can't figure out why. No links or anything. Weird.

84 OldYanksFan   ~  May 30, 2011 10:21 pm
85 OldYanksFan   ~  May 30, 2011 10:28 pm

Man... can there possibly be anything more grating and annoying then listening to Hawk Harrelson broadcasting a White Sox game?
I'm a very non-violent person, but when I hear his voice...
I JUST WANT TO KILL THE MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!
