Press On Like Lee

I talked to Bill Lee a few weeks ago for an article I’m working on and before I got off the phone we got around to the Yankees. I mentioned Graig Nettles. Lee still hates him.

“I carry his baseball card in my wallet so he’s pressed up against my right ass cheek forever,” he said. “He’s like the last dog in sled. The smell and the view haven’t improved as time goes on.”

i met bill lee a few months ago. i talked to him for awhile at a video store where they showed the spaceman documentary here in san francisco. it was cool to bask in his presence and listen to his drunk and rambling anecdotes on everything. dude hates the yankees and i can't blame him. i would too. can't say i'd be too forgiving either. the movie is pretty great and bill was a lot of fun to to be around. definitely my kind of baseball guy.
