I'm not a game show fan, but Price Is Right was the best ever in my opinion. Great concept, and fun to play along with.
I remember watching it as a 14-16 year old on summer mornings with my friends. This is going back about 30 years. We would get together early, like 8am, and play wiffle ball, stickball, or softball for a few hours, then duck into my friend's air conditioned den and watch Price Is Right drinking a pitcher of lemonade or ice tea. I don't think we went inside specifically to watch the show,(or maybe we did) it just always seemed to be on when we were taking a break from the heat. Speaking of which, the prize girls, or whatever the models' official title was, God, they were fantastic to look at.

I know that it is de riguer these days to complain about Jeter at the top of the lineup, but is it time to complain about Russell Martin batting in the middle of the order? I fear that my preseason prediction that he would be awful (at the plate) is coming true, after his glorious first few weeks in pinstripes

4 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 20, 2011 6:31 pm

In good news, Chavez had 4 hits in his rehab start today, though I not sure if he played 3rd or was at DH.

5 rbj   ~  Jul 20, 2011 7:11 pm

Heh, seems like YES has been visiting the Banter today.

6 rbj   ~  Jul 20, 2011 7:12 pm

Oh, I also get the SWB-Columbus game tonight.

Sweeeeeeet!

10 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 20, 2011 7:19 pm

Damn, that's two consecutive at bats that Russtache has just missed hitting one out.

11 Just Fair   ~  Jul 20, 2011 7:31 pm

This is off topic and I hope you guys don't mind. My 10 year old lab Mickey was diagnosed with cancer this week. He's been watching Yankee games with me on Yes since moving back to NY 7 years ago. He liked to hide in another room whenever my yellling or hat throwing became too much for him to bear. He always knew the difference between happy celebration hollering and WTF yelling, though. He especially liked going back and forth between my legs while I patted him like a drum after big home runs. He knew I was happy and the Yanks were winning. Anyway, sorry again for the personal stuff. But I hope there a few more good moments before summer's end.
Go Yankees!

12 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 20, 2011 7:36 pm

[11] Damn man, that's terrible, I'm sorry. Give him lots of love and enjoy the time you've got together.

13 rbj   ~  Jul 20, 2011 7:36 pm

[11] Very sorry to hear. Lost a few dogs over the years. Never easy. Have a couple of guys who are on the downside as well. Should still have a few good years, but I am seriously looking at a pet stroller for one. (Arthritis in the front leg -- which has a steel rod in it.)

I hope Mickey gets to run through your legs at the end of October.

14 OldYanksFan   ~  Jul 20, 2011 7:48 pm

[3] I don't have de riguer. I had de riguer, but penicillan cleared it up. Jeter at lead off is much worse than Martin batting 6th.

Jeter is SEVENTH on the team is RS, 6 behind Gritner.
Jeter has 106 TB, but 20 came in 2 games.
He is hurting the team. SSs in the AL are very poor this year, but Jeter is still near the bottom.

15 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 20, 2011 7:53 pm

Hmmm, "catchin' some ball", that's a new one by me ...

16 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 20, 2011 7:58 pm

pastadivingjeter!

sigh.

17 rbj   ~  Jul 20, 2011 7:59 pm

[16] What you got against Italian food? Goes real nice with a good Chianti -- which I need when watching Jeter field.

11) Hey man, sending all our love right to you, man. That's tough. Hang in there! You da man!

19 rbj   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:02 pm

Gotta sign off for the next few days folks. Driving to Philly for a convention (law librarian) for the next few days. Plus meet up with an old college friend. Liver is already protesting.

20 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:02 pm

Sit down, Evan.

21 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:02 pm

19) Be SAFE, son! And enjoy. Have a cheese steak for us.

22 monkeypants   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:04 pm

[14] Martin is batting .188/.297/.279 over his last 200+ ABs, since rocketing out of the gate for his first 60 ABs. Outside of his hot start, it is almost certain that Martin is hurting the team more. In any case, the reality is that both should be hitting at the bottom of the order (though I can see a better case for Jeter batting one or two), and Gardner should not be at the bottom.

23 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:04 pm

Wow. Talk about hitting with shitty luck.

3 times in a row Russtache has smoked the ball, he's got 4 outs to show for it.

Meh.

24 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:06 pm

I don't like having a 2-0 lead.

25 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:08 pm

Who the hell does Price look like? I just can't call it but it's someone, or a combination of someone's who are familiar. It's not Tim Duncan, is it Brad Dougherty? Or Obama? Can't. Call. It.

26 OldYanksFan   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:13 pm

10 swings and misses in 4 innings for Garcia. That is a boatload.

31 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:15 pm

[26] Yeah, and I really admire his band, the Sam Fuld Five.

32 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:19 pm

Oh, man, just caught up with this thread.

Just Fair, if I were a praying man I would pray for you. But my heart goes out to you and your boy. There is really nothing positive and true to say, so I'll just say that I am deeply sorry.

33 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:19 pm

29) LOL

34 OldYanksFan   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:28 pm

I think Gritner could play CF from LF.

35 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:30 pm

When the fuck did Casey Kochman become George Brett?

36 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:31 pm

[35] He had an eye problem correct over the winter. (Suzyn reported it -- I was listening to the second inning, driving.)

37 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:33 pm

Oh, unbelievable.
I LOVE CURTIS!

[25]All three of those guys!

Fab Five Freddy throwing up gooseeggs with 7 hits? I like it!

[41] [25] A little like Magic Johnson?

43 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:39 pm

They really got to win tonight..Boston has Seattle over the weekend so that's a sweep-a-coming..

44 Just Fair   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:39 pm

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Much appreciated.
Damn, Curtis better be back out there in center in the bottom half.

45 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:40 pm

David Pinto says Price is a distinctly worse pitcher with men on base (Here, at Baseball Analytics.) He puts the ball more in the middle of the zone. But doesn't look that way today, does it?

46 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:43 pm

I had a dream last night that Cashman traded Montero, Swisher,Banuelos and Nunez for King Felix..in real life Seattle would hang up immediately on that offer.

47 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:43 pm

Crap.
Great pitch to handcuff Swisher.
The Yanks have to work to make next inning Price's last.

Jeez, Robbie. That kid is funny.

51 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:48 pm

[49] Yep! And just imagined how good he would be if had Pedroia's hustle!!
Well done, Freddy. Great to see him and Bartolo still have it.

52 Just Fair   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:54 pm

12 sb's for Nune5. Holy smokes.
Heh-heh. Don't know the little 5 skill. : )

53 Just Fair   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:57 pm

How the fuck was that fair!

54 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:58 pm

Good point by Kenny. Nunie's got to follow that ball and grab it once it is foul.

55 OldYanksFan   ~  Jul 20, 2011 8:59 pm

[54] Correct. Fuck up by Nuney.

56 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:01 pm

60 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:04 pm

Nice of Freddy to tap Nunie there before he walked off. Let's hope another error doesn't hurt them tonight.

61 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:05 pm

And that's why they call him Nuñe5. (Even thought the scorer didn't agree.)

62 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:07 pm

C'mon Boone.

63 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:08 pm

70 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:11 pm

71 Just Fair   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:16 pm

Are you FUCKING kidding me! Damn, Curtis. Watch out.

73 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:17 pm

And he waves "don't worry about it" to Price. Pure class.

74 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:19 pm

Boone snagged 9% points of Win Probability for getting that out. Clutch!

75 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:22 pm

Argh. The streak ends.

76 OldYanksFan   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:22 pm

77 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:25 pm

76) At all.

78 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:26 pm

It's funny, I like Teix, but he gets a huge pass. Guy is just real streaky offensively but he never gets ripped.

79 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:27 pm

[68] His fastball velocity is up again as well, he hit 94 on the strikeout pitch.

80 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:28 pm

Speaking of Tesh, RAB had an interesting little piece on how his batting stance has changed over the last couple of years.

http://riveraveblues.com/2011/07/mark-teixeiras-balance-at-the-plate-52771/

When you look at 2008 vs 2009 vs 2011, the differences are pretty stark.

Man, great job so far Robbie.

87 OldYanksFan   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:30 pm

I'm surprised TB hasn't gone hard after Beltan. They have tons of fodder to trade, and the Mutts would pick up a big piece of salary if they got the right prospects.

88 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:32 pm

Yeah, baby. It's Hammer Time.

89 RIYank   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:33 pm

[87] I think the Pirates should go after him.
They have prospects galore to deal, and they really, really need a bat, and as you say the usual problem for the Pirates is mitigated by the Mets' checkbook.

90 OldYanksFan   ~  Jul 20, 2011 9:34 pm

[83] They also had a post showing how Teix has only been a shade better then Tino... comparing their first 3 Yankee years. Of course, Tino fell off after that, and Teix has been far better as a non-Yankee... but still, considering the contract, it gave a disappointing slant on Teix.
