Damn, I am really looking forward to the Nova start! Wow! I didn't expect this, but I'm psyched. He's really fun -- somehow without all the big expectations, he's delivered, he's likeable, and with no pressure these days I just have a good time.

2 ms october   ~  Aug 16, 2011 7:58 pm

[1] yes, i feel the same way - i really look forward to a nova start.

3 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 16, 2011 8:23 pm

Well, blech, that's a lousy beginning.

4 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 8:23 pm

The Red Sox just turned a triple play.

5 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 16, 2011 8:26 pm

I blame you both! [1][2]

;-)

6 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 8:26 pm

[5] Ugh.

7 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 16, 2011 8:32 pm

Uh oh, this might be one of those nights ...

8 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 16, 2011 8:46 pm

Nice bounce back inning from Nova.

9 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 8:54 pm

Sox down 3-1.
Their triple play is on highlights.

10 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 8:56 pm

There.
RBI Robbie.

11 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 16, 2011 8:59 pm

What I miss?? How is Nova looking?

12 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:01 pm

hi team!

i liked this Nova quote, from espn-ny:

“I think I just throw it with more confidence,” Nova told Ian Begley on Sunday. “When I was in the minors, it was the right time to practice it. I wasn't sent down because I was pitching bad, I got sent down because they needed a roster spot. So why not spend that time working on your technique? (I worked on) pitching inside, working on my slider. And now you see how it is.”

13 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:01 pm

c'mon Andruw!

14 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:02 pm

sub-optimal.

15 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:03 pm

[11] Lousy first. Looked excellent in the second.

[12] Yeah, we were enthusing about him, up top!

16 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:04 pm

Well that was a nice fat pitch, and Russ knew what to do.

17 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:04 pm

Mussell Coltrane!!!

18 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:05 pm

[15] that's why i went back and found the nova quote! : )

had read it earlier today...

19 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:06 pm

Eduardo Scisoorhands. He's kind of the anti-Rob.

20 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:08 pm

captain facemask w/ a solo job. 3-2 tampon.

21 Just Fair   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:10 pm

Gardner butchered that one.

22 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:10 pm

pujols reached 30 homers...again.

verlander well on his way to his 18th win...

23 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:10 pm

and there goes the lead. ugh.

24 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:11 pm

and there goes the tie. ugh.

25 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:12 pm

Ivan Nova is KC's bitch.

26 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:12 pm

weird.

27 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:13 pm

I cannot accept home runs by the Royals..they should be playing artificial turf, Willie Wilson small ball.

28 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:13 pm

btw, the braves have already called up 20 yr. Arodys Vizcaino. he's had a few relief appearances and has done pretty well. he was the 'prized prospect' we gave up in the javy deal...

29 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:13 pm

jesus, leche. he's having a great year...

30 Just Fair   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:13 pm

Ugh, didn't bp end a few hours ago?

31 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:14 pm

[20] Tek homered earlier -- Ellsbury made it 3-2.

I think.

32 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:15 pm

If Nova had pitched like this ten days ago... he'd be in Scranton now.

33 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:15 pm

[27] i always dug willie wilson when i was a kid. sooo weird that he ended up playing with both the A's and Cubbies, at the end of his career...

34 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:16 pm

[28] D'oh!! Hurts losing Arodys..and for Javy Vasquez!!!

35 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:18 pm

[31] ellsbury is ridiculous this year. pisses me off...

[27] i'll never forget looking at the back of willie wilson's card when i was a kid and marveling at the eye-popping 705 AB's. that was such a HUGE number.

now, i'd be frustrated that he was allergic to walking and had a sub-par OBP... ; )

36 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:19 pm

Oy.

37 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:20 pm

jesus christ.

it's extra base hit heaven for the royales.

38 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:21 pm

[35] Ells has more homers this year than he had in his whole career before this year. But there hasn't been one word of suspicion, not one. Interesting. He doesn't have a bulky build.

39 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:23 pm

[38] Of course not, gritty hard work only! Not a word on the $300+ dollars the genius spent in offseason either..

40 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:24 pm

Damn, Carl Crawford stinks.
I mean, this is what I expected from him, but it's still jarring.

41 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:27 pm

Sure, Brett, now. Not with the bases loaded and two out in the second inning.

42 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:27 pm

i'd love the captain to hit it into the waterfall here and now...

43 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:29 pm

No way!
Isn't that Derek Jeter? It is!

44 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:30 pm

i'll take that!

45 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:30 pm

[42] Will that do?

46 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:33 pm

[45] yeah, sure!

see [44]

47 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:33 pm

We have good hitters.

48 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:34 pm

that'll really do!

49 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:35 pm

[47] by "we," if you mean you and me, here at the banter, then...yeah, we do. ; )

50 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:36 pm

and now arodys vizcaino is pitching in the 10th inning. good braves-giants game going on...

51 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:37 pm

a double steal would be kinda fun...

52 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:37 pm

Yost ejected? What happened?

53 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:39 pm

4-2 tampon

54 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:40 pm

arodys gets miggy tejada to ground into the dp. bottom of the 10th here in the Atl. i'm soooo happy to be back home, yaaaaaayyyyy!!!!!

55 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:41 pm

[49] Well, us and Mr. OK.

56 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:42 pm

wow, epic ab. robbie wearing the kid out. 7 fouls in a row.

here comes pitch #12!

57 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:42 pm

Oh, Robbie, YOU DA RIPPER, MAN!!!

58 Just Fair   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:42 pm

I feel for the kid, but you can't stop Robinson.

59 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:43 pm

[56] and THERE IT GOES!!!

60 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:43 pm

That was my favorite AB ever.

61 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:43 pm

[55] Mr. OK has warning track power, which is about 350 feet further than i can hit the ball. i'll be the speed demon, a la Willie Wilson. and, by William Hayward Wilson, i mean my man "Mookie"! : )

62 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:43 pm

Robinson Fucking Cano.

The RIPPER!!!!!!!!!!

63 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:44 pm

Sigh.

Robinson Cano.

I'm not gay.

64 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:44 pm

yeah, gotta get the kid outta there.

we won't be URP'ed!

65 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:45 pm

[60] wish i could've seen it...

[63] you're not happy? why?!

i hope Nova can get his shit together after this inning!

66 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:46 pm

robbie and melky are gonna have some fun hangin' out after the game tonight.

67 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:47 pm

rays up by a granny. still top 8...

68 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:47 pm

[61] I met Mookie at my Little League year end dinner in 1987!
But no warning track power for me, I'm more Alvara Espinoza..

Huzzah for Cano!!

69 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:48 pm

from the honorable chad jennings over at lohud:

Also, the Yankees have claimed LHP Raul Valdes from the Cardinals. He’ll report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Jeff Marquez has been moved to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man.

70 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:50 pm

[68] nice! i actually got to meet him an awful lot, starting in 1982. my godfather was the VP of the Muts and Mookie was my fave player. i actually wore #1, played CF, batted first, (sucked) and was nicknamed Mook or Mookie.

i could beat out a weak squibber to 3rd, steal 2nd, steal 3rd and score easily. : )

now i can't even run to the next gate at the airport...

71 mhoward120   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:52 pm

This guy Robinson Crusoe can hit

72 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:52 pm

[66] I bet A-Rod will show up. "Hey, guys! What are we doin'?"

73 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:53 pm

GI Joe shoulda pinch hit Jorgie for Andruw, let him get a few AB's in. lefties coming up, then A-Rod's back...

74 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:54 pm

[72] yeah, that's right! they called him "Superman"

apparently, A-Rod got booed a coupla times tonight in Scranton for failing to catch a coupla foul pops to the 3rd basement side...

75 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:55 pm

Alrighty, Ivan, time to get 6 outs!

76 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:56 pm

the Snakes are for real. 1st place, + run diff, just beat Doc Halladay...

Arodys in to pitch his 2nd inning...

77 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:57 pm

[72] Hysterical! Not sure how jumpin the KC scene is any more, not like it used to be.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyVNApGCeWE&feature=related

78 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 9:59 pm

It will be interesting to hear the post mortem on Nova. Several really good innings, a couple of really bad ones.

79 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:00 pm

[77] Awesome.
I've never been to KC. It seems like the kind of place I'd like.

80 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:01 pm

holy crap. super quick 'n clean inning for nova!

81 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:09 pm

Excellent. Thanks, Rob!

Goodbye, Ivan the Terrible; hello, Supernova.

86 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:13 pm

1st victory for Arodys Vizcaino.

87 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:13 pm

[84] [85] Cut that out.

88 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:15 pm

woo hoo robbie!! oh vey, poor nova. at least he settled down. i guess even cc has bad games though...

89 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:16 pm

Greetings Germs...
Not the best game for Nova, but I still like the kid (and he's cheap!).
Maybe it's good we didn't DFA AJ yet?

90 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:17 pm

The first 3 1/2 innings of this game took about six hours. Then the next two blew by in fifteen minutes.

91 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:18 pm

everyone has probably noticed cano's 1.159 OPS for august. mighty robbie!

92 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:19 pm

seamus!!! what's up, man???

[90] yeah, i won't be able to stick around much longer. gotta get to the studio, then have tons of work to do. i start teaching college again tomorrow...

93 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:21 pm

the larmis! what up! did you get to state college last month? sorry i missed you. work kicked my ass for a while there.

94 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:22 pm

[92] Well, thanks for stopping by.

Hello, Seamus!

95 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:23 pm

Hm, not good.
Boone, please.

96 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:23 pm

[93] yeah man, it was a fantastic trip up 'ere o'er at the college. good times!

He really has been great. He makes Girardi look so good now.

105 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:29 pm

Yes. Brilliant. Teix saves the day!

[97] Did it remind you of that evening a couple of years ago when we carried the Banter on our shoulders for an hour or so?

106 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:30 pm

yes tex! thank you!

107 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:31 pm

[105] yeah yeah it did. hard to forget that thread. wish i remembered the date though so i could go back and look...

108 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:33 pm

[107] Hm, yeah. I wonder if there's a good way to search it. In fact, I can't remember much of anything about the game. Who were the Yanks playing? What month was it?

109 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:35 pm

[108] it's weird, i remember the thread but not the opponent or month. i do think it was a sat day game though...

110 Just Fair   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:36 pm

I'd like to see Nuney make a play like that. Wow.

111 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:37 pm

damn, hoped nunez would beat that.

112 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:37 pm

pirates beat arthur rhodes in the bottom of the 11th.

let's beat up aaron crow!

113 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:37 pm

[108][109] Totally do not remember that..seems a lot of west coast games were me and thelarmis awake but many on the east coast deep in slumber..

114 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:37 pm

Jesus. Just a little misplay and Brett could have had a round-tripper inside the park.

115 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:38 pm

Hah, Paul agrees with me!

116 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:38 pm

117 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:38 pm

118 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:39 pm

122 thelarmis   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:43 pm

now, my scoreboard and gamecast are slow...

good goin', Jete!

that geico run makes me feel a bit better. i'm off to the studio. i couldn't get 880 in my car earlier. hopefully, Sori, Hama and Mo close this one out cleanly!

Chien-Ming got his 2nd W of the year tonite!

[117] yeah, i hope the Buccos get to .500. that horseshit call vs. the Braves really pissed me off...

123 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:44 pm

Man... I don't know who this new SS is, but he sure is better then the GODJ!
This is a MUCH better team when Jeter contributes.

124 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:45 pm

127 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:49 pm

I like bringing Boone back, that was a smart move. Is Joe improving, or was this just some random iPad thing?

Ah, pitching change. That answers my question.

128 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:50 pm

Oh, ciao, thelarmis.

129 Just Fair   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:54 pm

130 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:54 pm

Now, leave him in to start the eighth, please.

Try again, Rob.

132 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 10:58 pm

[129] oh nice. lots of friends were there. random thought. i've only been to one pirates game this year but have been to yankee stadium twice. strange year. that'll change soon though...

133 seamus   ~  Aug 16, 2011 11:05 pm

uh oh. thelarmis leaves and thread dies...

134 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 11:07 pm

I think the smart move was to stick with Soriano...
but I love me some D-Rob.

135 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 11:07 pm

Too easy. Give him somebody harder to get out.

Next!

[139] watching mlb.tv on my ipad. prob just buffering behind ya.

141 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 11:13 pm

Bam.
Bam.
Bam.

142 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 11:15 pm

[140] Oh, well, there ya go.
On the iPad, that must be fun. I have it on my Roku, which is awesome (when it's working smoothly, which it is tonight).

143 RIYank   ~  Aug 16, 2011 11:16 pm

"It really has been a battle for all the pitchers tonight."

It has not. When D-Rob was on the hill, he brought the battle to the Hitters Royale.

144 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 16, 2011 11:20 pm

Tiny Tim is fun to watch pitch.

I'm guessing I didn't miss much. Only thing I had time for here was examining clown blood under a microscope this afternoon. Oh well, tomorrow's another day. Home again... ~z~
