In all my years of going to games I feel like I've seen a disproportionate number of Bruce Chen starts in person...it never gets better.

And the Red Sox lost this afternoon.

[1] A couple of years ago I managed to attend two games at Yankee Stadium in the same season, both starts by Sidney Ponson. So I can appreciate what you are saying.

Bruce Chen reminds me os Salieri in "Amadeus". He's the patron saint of mediocrity, making a fine living but totally anonymous..

Lots of Banter posts to ctach up on, got to check out that El Duque post.
Go Go Grandy!!

Another 35C & humid day here, but work is quiet and Jazz Jr. tols me he liked the Mingus I had on last night :) Will hold off on introducing the Sonny Sharrock for now though..

Swisher-oooooo!!

[9] Well if you didn't Mr OKJT, I will. Mickey my 10 1/2 yearl old lab watched his last Yankee game last night. We had to put him down today. I am a wreck. I am off to drink Jameson's with the wife and neighbors. If I'm back before game's end please excuse me in advance. Go Yankees! ugh.. : (

[10] Damn, that's sad news. Condolences.

12 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 17, 2011 9:04 pm

Meanwhile ... ugh.

Those missed opportunities are already costing us.

13 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 17, 2011 9:06 pm

Fugh, the Fat Man's got fuck all tonite.

14 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 17, 2011 9:08 pm

[10] Oh Gosh..that's just awful news. RIP Mickey.

15 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 17, 2011 9:35 pm

Yanks will come back to take this one, can't let an opportunity to increase the division lead slip away!
On that note, I don't get all the talk about "not wanting to face Verlander twice" in the ALDS..Detroit is not a very good team. Would MUCH rather Yanks face them than Texas..

[10] So sorry to hear. No game thread for me, playing dominoes with the family.

17 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 17, 2011 10:00 pm

The Royals should challenge that. With this umpiring crew, you never know

18 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 17, 2011 10:06 pm

[17] Gameday here, what'S up with the umps?

19 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 17, 2011 10:07 pm

[18] Billy Butler hit a ball off the wall. For reasons undtermined, the umpire ruled it a home run. They went and checked the replay and stuck with that decision.

20 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 17, 2011 10:13 pm

I dislike Justin Morneau.

21 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 17, 2011 10:14 pm

[20] Very zen..aren't they playing the Royals? :)

22 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 17, 2011 10:19 pm

I feel good things are about to happen..

23 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 17, 2011 10:20 pm

I'm like 60 percent sure I could get Mark Teixeira to swing and miss if I threw a changeup.

24 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 17, 2011 10:21 pm

[21] YES ran a commercial for tomorrow's game based on Morneau

25 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 17, 2011 10:29 pm

[22] Hmm...my spidey-sense was off..
[24] Morneau..he's not too bad. But the Twins in general are annoying with their "do things the right way" reputation..

26 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 17, 2011 10:32 pm

[25] Its not so much Morneau. Its the swooning over Morneau. I have no idea why he won the MVP in 2006, and have even less of an idea why he almost won again in 2008.

27 Just Fair   ~  Aug 17, 2011 11:10 pm

Thanks, bb gang. C'mon Jorgie!

28 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2011 11:12 pm

Well, that was anti-climactic.

29 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2011 11:13 pm

Something fitting about having left the bases loaded in the first and the ninth, getting only one run each time when we all expected more.

Oh well.

30 Boatzilla   ~  Aug 17, 2011 11:16 pm

It's almost like Jorge refused to admit that first dodgy call was a strike. When he saw it again on strike three he was daring the ump to call it a strike. The dude is stubborn.

31 jjmerlock   ~  Aug 17, 2011 11:30 pm

And neither one was an EFFING strike.

Fuck you, Blue. Sorry, but they got umped. Not that the oppo doesn't get umped at times against us.

But the umps had their grubby chubb prints all over that game. Way to fuck up the two biggest moments of the game.

No, Jorge wouldn't swing at a ball.

Got strikes called three times on that exact pitch in my final HS game. First time, big K, not a strike.

Second AB, slammed a single opposite way on the second exact pitch like that of the at bat. Yelled at the ump from first that he'd blown the call all three times.

Like Boggs said - not a strike, why the fuck should I change for you because you suck at your job?
