Water Logged

The nice thing about running your own blog is that you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. I just got home, it’s cold and raining, I’m hungry, and the last thing on my mind is recapping a 5-4 loss in extra innings. It’s enough to say that A.J. Burnett was wild in lousy conditions, Jesus Montero had a couple of RBI, and the Yanks were this close to tying it in the bottom of the eleventh. It wasn’t to be.

Let’s take the long view–we won’t remember this game in three weeks let alone three months.

Fuck it, Dude, have a hot coco:

Cocoa is perfect.
(But the marshmallows ruin it.)

Wakefield's latest bid for W200 is not going well. My god, it's like his ninth try or something.

Whoops. Wakefield is getting the benefit of either red hot Red Sox bats or else a miserable outing by Morrow. Looks like the latter -- he's served up some waist-high middle-of-the-plate fastballs.

Wow, the Jays load the bases with nobody out in the eighth, then Bard strikes out Wise and Escobar, 0-2 to Thames, but Eric works a walk, one run game.

Bard is at 31 pitches as Jose Bautista steps up to the plate with the sacks juiced, two out, a one-run game.

Ball one.
Pop foul, Saltalamacchia runs out of room.
Slider misses, 2-1.
Bard looks frayed around the edges, he almost hits the MVP in the face, 3-1.
Damage pitch...
he walks Bautista, the game is tied.

No win for Wakefield!

That's it for Bard. He will be replaced by Matt Alpers, now that's got to be the low point of his career. Very ugly.

Encarnacion gets ahead of Albers, then Matt works it back full. Payoff pitch...

Encarnacion doubles to clear the bases! It's a six run eighth inning for the Mighty Jays! Nice shot by NESN to show the expressionless Bard in the dugout.

What a finish!
A-Gon homers, Ortiz singles, tying run comes to bat with nobody out. Strikeout, FC Ortiz to second, then Scutaro lines a two-out single to plate Papi. Pinch runner for Scu-scu-scutaro! Mike Avilas. He takes off for second... and Arrencibia (sp?) throws him out to end the game!

Mattpat would have absolutely loved it. Francona put in his pinch runner, and then had him steal! A play, a play!

Boy, that was a great, great game. I mean, hideous for RSN. Excruciating. Wonderful.

2 games in a row in brutal conditions. Another coming tomorrow? And then the long flight to CA. Hope the boys can get some sleep before Friday's game.

It's gonna be a long 3 weeks for our team.

Ah.... but what a glorious loss for the Sox.
I'll have to watch Boston News tonight.

[11] The play is the thing. Wherein I'll catch the conscience of the King. >;)

15 RIYank   ~  Sep 7, 2011 11:33 pm

[14] Indeed. It was a tragedy in one act tonight.

At least you know who lost tonight.
