Professional Hitterâ„¢ sighting! Joe Buck on Michael Young.

5 rbj   ~  Oct 10, 2011 8:39 pm

Tomorrow's starters are going to have to go deep

6 rbj   ~  Oct 10, 2011 8:43 pm

Shoot, I'd have sent the runner.

7 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2011 8:43 pm

He just flat dropped it. Poor guy. This one is over.

8 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2011 8:46 pm

Boom.

9 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2011 8:47 pm

That was a batting practice at bat. Great swing on the first pitch, just fouled it back, then skied one a million miles but foul. Then, well, straightened it all out and hits the grand salami. Dag. That's abuse.

Dang, a granny. And pie!

Brew Crew with some terrible "D" this game.

12 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2011 9:00 pm

Pujols is pretty okay, huh?

13 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 9:22 pm

i heard the walkoff grand slam by cruz, in the car.

i'm not rooting for either team...

not happy about the cards early - and big - lead. fuck, even punto the piranha getting in on the act.

5-0. feh.

14 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 9:35 pm

the beast appears.

5-2!

15 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 9:41 pm

jeez. all yuni betancourt does is hit in the damn playoffs.

[never thought i'd be typing that sentence!]

Joe Posnanski on the randomness of the MLB playoffs. He doesn't think it matches the rest of the season, which is about "the long season, the day-to-day, the ability to overcome injuries, adversity, slumps, heat waves and all that."

But the wild card changed that.

But ever since then, the quirks and erratic nature of short playoff series has mostly muted the Yankees gigantic payroll and their cavalcade of stars. They've had the league's best record six times since 2002, but have only appeared in the World Series twice, and only won the World Series once. I, of course, feel no sympathy for the Yankees whatsoever. But I do think it's true that baseball's system was once built around trying to find the best team. And now the system is built much more around the spark of surprise.

18 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 9:56 pm

19 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:12 pm

braun is a frickin' monster!

cash 'em in, prince.

20 randym77   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:18 pm

Wasted opportunity there.

21 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:18 pm

crap. bases loaded. 1 out. double play. no runs...

22 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:22 pm

ooh, BAD call on the dp.

weeks was SAFE at 1st. woulda had a run across and 2 outs. man, i know umpiring is hard, but the horrific umpiring that's gone on the past few seasons in the playoffs is unacceptable.

23 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:23 pm

[20] that, and a bad call...

24 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:29 pm

[22] True true. CANNOT blow a call like that at first base.

25 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:30 pm

Miller Park seems unusally bright for an open-air park..

26 randym77   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:31 pm

I still haven't forgiven Country Joe West for calling Robby Cano out for running outside the box in game 5 in 2005. Jeez. He wasn't running outside the box, and who calls that anyway, except when a runner is trying to evade a tag?

27 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:33 pm

nothin' to show for it there, but hairston jr.'s been hitting the ball well this postseason.

28 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:34 pm

[27] similar for yuniesky. and what a first name that is!

[26] that is a good grudge to hold! ; )

29 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:37 pm

[25] it's getting early, late?! : ~

30 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:41 pm

poo holes the doubles machine

31 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:45 pm

there's emma's "molinas in the playoffs" at work!

cards are gonna get to double digits and tie this series up, heading back to the arch...

32 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:46 pm

...and there's the double digits : /

33 randym77   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:49 pm

And it's LaTroy Hawkins to the rescue.

34 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 10:55 pm

[33] how right you are! ; )

35 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 11:26 pm

prince destroyed that offering from boggs.

too little, too late, however...

11-3 headed to the 9th

36 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 11:31 pm

and the cards get THAT run back, too.

jeez. an even dozen for the red boids...

37 randym77   ~  Oct 10, 2011 11:40 pm

How many homers in this game so far?

Seems like a lot.

38 thelarmis   ~  Oct 10, 2011 11:47 pm

[37] 4 homers, 7 doubles. an error, wild pitch, caught stealing & 2 dp's

pujols had 4 extra base hits, prince had 2

39 Chyll Will   ~  Oct 11, 2011 8:57 am
