14,000 Shots to the Dome

Dig Richard Sandomir’s piece on Mr. Met in the New York Times today.

Mr. Met has always given me the willies.

While you are at it, dig Larry Granillo’s Handy Dandy Mascot Guide over at Baseball Prospectus.

Mr. Met is cool by me. My family went to a Met game vs. SF Giants sometime around 2001-2002 as we recently moved from the Bay Area. I got the tickets through business, and they included passes for the whatever they called the club restaurant/bar that we went to during a rain delay.

Mr. Met was there entertaining the kiddies young and old. He took one look at my son who was 7 or 8 at the time; wearing his Giants cap. Mr. Met grabbed the cap off his head, and proceeded to rub his butt with it. Not as horrifying as it sounds...we all had a big laugh.

Cool story. I love Mr. Met. His smiling face always reminds me of that great Mets song.
