Arms and the Man

Yesterday, the baseball analyst Dave Cameron sent out this tweet: “So, apparently, it takes as long to complete an AJ Burnett trade as it takes for AJ Burnett to get through five innings.” Burnett to the Pirates could be close but nothing is imminent. You know the drill.

Meanwhile, the big fella, Michael Pineda is in Yankee camp. Kevin Kernan has the story. Here’s another report, this one from Anthony Mccarron.

The Burnett deal won't get done until Cashman can stifle his laughter before hanging up with the Pirates. Or until he can come up with $33 million in unmarked, non-sequential $100 bills. One, or both of these is delaying the transaction.

I feel that Burnett is going to do really well wherever he goes next. He just isn't built to pitch in the Bronx. Say what you will about him, but unlike some of the other Yankee busts, at least AJ was always accountable. He has the stuff, but it's the double stuff between his ears that is holding him back. Imagine David Cone with AJ's athletic ability?

I like AJ, and if he ends up in Pittsburgh, they might do well with him. He isn't worth 16.5 million, but I wouldn't bet against him putting it back together in a smaller market.

Surprising that he wouldn't waive his no-trade to the Angels? Maybe it never got that far with The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim United States North America Planet Earth Milky Way?

[2] Uhh Greg, you sure about that Planet Earth thing? I mean, did you see how much money and years they gave Pujols?
