Via LoHud, Teix is out with flu like symptoms, Jeter to DH, Swisher to 1B, Nunez at SS.

Johnny Damon has signed a minor league contract on Tuesday, the next step before he joins the (Indians) major league club and possibly moves into a permanent spot in left field. The sides agreed on a $1.25 million deal last week.

Poor JD. This is the 2nd time he blew the Yankees off, and ended up no better.

3 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:11 pm

Hmm...CC still "dealing" a 90 mph fastball. That doesn't seem right.

4 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:14 pm

Nice 1, 2, 3, inning for CC.

5 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:21 pm

Alright, Nick.

6 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:21 pm

Attaboy, Swish.

7 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:22 pm

Patience please, Rob. Liriano is not a big friend of the strike zone tonight.

8 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:25 pm

Oh you gotta be kidding me.

9 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:27 pm

Sigh.

10 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:28 pm

Peeeeeeew. What a stinker that was.

11 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:31 pm

Also that.

12 randym77   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:32 pm

Ryan Doumit has scary black-eyed kid eyes.

13 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:33 pm

CC's "stuff" is not sooo overwhelming tonight.

14 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:35 pm

[13] He's just getting warmed up.

15 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:36 pm

[14] For June?

16 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:36 pm

Scary fly ball.

17 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:36 pm

That could have been ugly. I was expecting the ball to drop.

18 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:37 pm

[13] This always happens in April. Remember?

19 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:37 pm

Communication, boys.

20 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:38 pm

[18] I don't remember his velocity being so consistently low, but maybe I'm mistaken.

21 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:41 pm

Not the velocity in particular. I don't remember that either. But he's generally a mediocre pitcher in April.

22 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:42 pm

Hey, cool! Free base!

23 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:43 pm

Oh, that's what he does well!

24 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:43 pm

Oh good, a man on second, but will we get him in?
Nunez!

25 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:43 pm

Please, Brett, do not strike out looking. Or at all.

26 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:44 pm

Ok. Squeeze. Sac bunt. Squeeze again. 2-1 good guys.

27 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:44 pm

Or that! ; )

28 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:44 pm

Oh, that is just fucking awesome.
Except that isn't, stupid ass fan.

29 randym77   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:44 pm

Let's go, Yankees!

30 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:45 pm

Gritner!

Missed it, had to release the hounds.

31 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:45 pm

Oh, never mind, not the fan's fault at all.

32 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:46 pm

Hm. Can Stewart bunt? I do not like the squeeze, but I do like the idea of Gardenhire pulling in his infield...
So where are they? Not way in.

33 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:46 pm

Just bunt.

Don't K or pop out.

34 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:46 pm

Hideous.

35 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:47 pm

Got lucky there, Brett.

36 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:48 pm

I don't have the energy to load the link for the Circus Music, but please feel free to imagine it.

37 randym77   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:49 pm

I didn't realize Chris Stewart was a Yankee again. He keeps trying to escape, and they keep getting him back. :-)

38 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:50 pm

He hasn't put a single pitch in the zone to Jetes.

39 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:50 pm

The strike out pitch might have just scratched the zone.

40 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:51 pm

Yeah, he doesn't want to walk Swish and face Rob with the bases juiced. Good count, Nick...

41 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:52 pm

Better count now. Come on, Nick! Green light him, right?

Whoa.

Okay, Rob, be patient. Be patient.

42 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:52 pm

Find a gap, Robbie. Pretty please.

43 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:53 pm

Crap. CRAP!

44 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:53 pm

That fucking inning is gonna bite them in the ass. Dammit!

45 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2012 6:54 pm

Sub-optimal.

46 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:00 pm

No one's there to see you, blue. Douche.

47 randym77   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:01 pm

Adios!

48 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:01 pm

Gardy was trying for that.

But WTF were they on about?

49 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:02 pm

Span was fussing about the strike call?

50 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:05 pm

Wtf kind of game is this?

51 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:05 pm

That figures.

52 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:05 pm

Jesus Christ.

53 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:06 pm

Clete Thomas?

54 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:06 pm

Yep, just warming up.

55 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:06 pm

Ugh.

56 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:07 pm

We got a lot of $20m+ league average players this year...

57 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:08 pm

Maybe it's glitter. Crap.

58 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:09 pm

Warming. Up.

59 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:09 pm

[54] [56] CC. April. Remember?

60 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:11 pm

God, that's only the second out?

61 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:12 pm

Whew.

62 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:12 pm

[59] And Rob doesn't hit in April and Teix doesn't hit in April.

Wow, that looked trapped!

Nice, Brett!

Nope, clean catch!

63 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:12 pm

Brett saves the day.

64 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:12 pm

Gardner saves a whole shitload of runs.

65 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:13 pm

[56] The year is young, but we're not used to this throttling by the Twins. The biggest concern is watching Cano at bat.

Gardner mows the lawn and stops the damage

66 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:13 pm

Brett looked none too comfortable after that catch.. Please let the wrist be ok.

67 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:14 pm

Losing to a team with Jamie Carrol and Trevor Plouffe mashing the ball..what's going on??

68 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:17 pm

[67] And Clete Thomas.
What's going on is that CC isn't pitching very well, and we stranded a load of runners.

69 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:18 pm

[68] Trevor Plouffe..really, it matches my real name in the "least inspiring baseball names ever" contest..

70 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:19 pm

Anyone missing Tex? He's out with "flu like symptoms".

71 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:20 pm

[70] He caught it from his bats.

72 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:20 pm

[69] JJ Putz wins that contest.

73 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:21 pm

Not my favorite part of the line-up here.

74 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:21 pm

[70] Hangover? Domestic trouble? Missing goggles? Heroin setback? (sorry, that H joke refers to old jazz men from the 50s who sometimes missed gigs due to `stomach upset`..likely form withdrawl).

75 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:22 pm

Green light Nuney. Holy Smokes!

76 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:22 pm

Nice job, Eddie boy.

77 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:22 pm

Hey, cool! Probably not what Joe was thinking when he gave Ed the green light, but good enough!

78 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:23 pm

[74] Allergy to Liriano...check out his career numbers against.

79 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:23 pm

A hit with RISP?!

80 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:24 pm

Meanwhile (as I listen to the Twins feed), the announcers are talking with Carl Pavano, basically yucking it up over last night's game. Infuriating.

81 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:25 pm

[78] Ah right, Francisco Randy Johnson Liriano..prettayyyy weak, Teix.

82 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:25 pm

I'd almost want to PH for Stewart. Yeah, might do it, with Russell. But I guess the whole point of playing Stewart is then defeated.

83 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:26 pm

I smell a double play.

84 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:27 pm

Lester out after 2+ at Fenway. Gives up 4 runs and leaves the based loaded.

85 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:27 pm

YAYAYAYAYA

86 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:27 pm

True Yankee!

87 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:27 pm

Damn, look at this new (perhaps not so) feckless catcher!

88 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:27 pm

Yes. The Reverse Jinx Rides Again! ; )

89 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:28 pm

[84] Holy shit, I wasn't watching -- what happened? Is he injured? (He's the only Red Sox I would really hate to see injured.)

90 randym77   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:28 pm

Chris Stewart! Frankie who?

91 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:28 pm

Yes, good job, Just Fair. Excellent work.

92 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:28 pm

[86] I was always 100% gung-ho for the Chris Stewart signing!
[84] That's so sad..someone call PopEye's! (is that joke already stale?)

93 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:29 pm

5-2 in Fenway. Sacs loaded, 1 out.

94 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:29 pm

Now we know that Stewart will not bat zero this year. He has more RBI's than Arod.

95 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:29 pm

[89] Getting old???

96 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:31 pm

Derek is pounding that right field corner, huh?

97 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:31 pm

[95] He's 28. Pitcher prime.

Good rap, Jetes.

98 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:32 pm

Jesus, we're only in the third and it's only 5-3?

99 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:32 pm

[96] He's pounding everything, but particularly right field.

100 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:32 pm

Damn, nice play.

101 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:32 pm

[98] second "only" = "already"?

102 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:33 pm

hahahahahaha

103 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:33 pm

Thanks. I try to do my part.

104 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:33 pm

[97] He got a bad case of the Texas Flu.
[94] Was it Nieves the backup C a few years back who was 0 for 40 or something like that? Then got thrown out at 2B trying to stretch his first hit in years?

105 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:33 pm

[101] Yeah, I don't know what I meant, frankly...

106 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:34 pm

Julian Benbow at Extra Bases has no particular remarks about Lester being injured. Maybe he just sucked.

107 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:34 pm

[104] Hahahahahahah! I do have a vague recollection of that! Hahahahahahahahah!!!

108 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:35 pm

Whoops [103] was for RIYank [91]. Now's time for the BIg Fella to shut down the mighty bats of the Twinkies.

109 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:35 pm

Kay's aged.

110 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:36 pm

Retro uniforms?

111 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:36 pm

[109] I mean, I know, haven't we all?

112 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:36 pm

I hate to say it, but when Flash is in the booth it's kind of a moronic group. Something about the interaction between him and Kay.

113 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:41 pm

[112] That Highlander uniform was kind of cool though.

114 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:42 pm

Rob's just not on.

115 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:43 pm

[113] Totally. But it would have been cooler with the sound off, is all I'm saying.

116 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:45 pm

[112] If IQ was feet, the group combined couldn't hit the ball over the NYS right field wall.

117 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:45 pm

Save the bones for Andruw Jones!

118 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:45 pm

Mr. Jones!

119 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:47 pm

[117] hahahah! I love that.
I have *no* idea what it means.
But I love it.
(Or perhaps that's why I love it.)

120 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:51 pm

This is the wackiest game!

121 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:52 pm

Jeez, what's next

122 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:52 pm

Get back to your point about Bobby V, Al...

123 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:52 pm

[115] Hey, as I was walking to work I had the radio feed on through the phone. Ma & Pa..incredible how little they actually describe of what's going on! Lots of silences and then odd non-sequitirs..Suzyn on my main man Plouffe: "We saw him in Minnesota"..long pause..."He may have some power..."..pause..."So here comes Swisher...he's always so animated..."

124 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:54 pm

CC's nearing warmness.

125 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:55 pm

[119] Johnny Mercer and Nat King Cole, baby! (And covered by other kool kats.)

126 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 7:58 pm

[125] Bones is jazz slang for "joint" in that song.

127 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:00 pm

[126] I never knew that. Makes sense.

128 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:01 pm

[125][126] That's hip!

129 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:02 pm

The Captain with the 2 out rbi.

130 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:02 pm

Another hit with RISP! And with two outs.

131 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:02 pm

Yay Jetes!

[128] It might be hep, even.

132 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:05 pm

I feel like I'm missing out. Bones was also the drummer who played at The Cunningham's house on an early Happy Days episode. It caused a big stir because he was a young black kid.

133 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:07 pm

[123] No idea what's going on on the field at the moment, or even what the larger facts about the game such as the score or the inning.

134 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:09 pm

[125] Oh, fucking awesome, cheers for that!

135 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:10 pm

[132] I don't remember that one.

136 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:10 pm

Swell job by CC after a rough start.

137 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:12 pm

Man did Robbie smash that one.

138 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:13 pm

Yes he did.

139 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:13 pm

[132] Happy Days..I don't remember that episode either. That show REALLY did not age well..how did anyone think the Fonz was "cool"?

140 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:14 pm

[125] (Still singing that song, can't get it out of my head. Good fucking stuff.)

141 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:15 pm

FauxJohnSterling on twitter just said this: "Suzyn, CC is "rollin' with his homies!" I just learned that from the movie "Clueless," which I watched on my Betamax!"

Really love following him!

Work calling, Go Go Team!! Bring home the W!

142 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:15 pm

[139] Um, well, compared to the company he kept?

143 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:20 pm

[140] Johnny Mercer could string a few notes together, huh?

144 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:20 pm

Praise be to Youtube. I stand corrected. The kid's name was Sticks, not Bones.

145 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:25 pm

One more out, big guy. Go get 'im.

146 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:25 pm

[143] I think there is a Ray Charles version too.

147 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:26 pm

[143] Indeed.

148 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:26 pm

[125] I finally had a listen. That's good stuff. Someone needs to tell John Sterling about that one. Andrew don't need no meat.

149 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:28 pm

Good comeback, big guy.

150 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:32 pm

[148] I bet he knows it. I bet Suzyn could sing it, too.

I would love to know more about Flash's fridge.

151 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:34 pm

Good night for Brett.

152 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:35 pm

I'll be damned.

153 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:35 pm

Chris Stewart!

Look at him go!

154 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:35 pm

Tell John Sterling I predicted 3 RBI for Chris Stewart tonight.

155 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:38 pm

Chris "Thurman" Stewart, ladies and gentlemen.

156 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:40 pm

With the today's technology I would be surprised if teams weren't stealing signs.

157 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:41 pm

Ok, last two ab's have looked good for Rob.

158 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:44 pm

Why is CC still in the game?

159 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:46 pm

[157] And his first one -- ripped it but right into the glove.

160 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:47 pm

[159] Yes, true.

161 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:49 pm

[157] [159} Ya mean I can stop worrying about Cano?

162 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:54 pm

Holy Feck..anyone see what's happening in Fenway? Sheesh!

163 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:56 pm

[162] That Bobby Valentine style of motivation must be taking effect.

164 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:58 pm

[162] Wow. Still only one out!

165 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2012 8:58 pm

Hey, look who's batting in Fenway!

166 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 17, 2012 9:00 pm

hahahahahah!

Three homers in this inning!

Hahahahha!

Oh, man, I'm SO happy it's Bobby V over there!

This is going to be a FUN season with his antics.

167 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2012 9:05 pm
