Saturday Night Serious

Bad news for Brett Gardner who felt pain in his elbow this morning. Tweets from the Yankee beat writers suggest we might not see Gardner until after the All-Star Break.

It’s Phil “Two in a row?”Hughes vs. Dillon Gee.

Nats up 4-0 on Dick K in the 4th...

Nuts, I get the Indians - Cardinals game.

3 RIYank   ~  Jun 9, 2012 4:27 pm

Yeah, Daisuke was very good in the first two, but got killed in the third inning.

4 RIYank   ~  Jun 9, 2012 4:27 pm

No, I meant the fourth inning. He was good through three.

Outstanding match between Brazil and Argentina.
Messi is an artist and an assassin. Unreal performance. 82,000 at Met Life Stadium got their money's worth.
My boys were at a birthday party and missed it so we're watching it again.

3) Yeah, he looked okay. A Gone helped him out of that fourth too with a nifty catch and double play. By the way, for all the talk of A Rod and Tex not doing well, they have more dingers than Gonzalez. Is it just a prolonged slump?

Also, such a drag about Gardner. I suppose it's too early for Cashman to make a move but it would be interesting, with the team going good, if they tried to get someone.

Just about time for the Belmont. Shame about I'll Have Another.

8 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 5:59 pm

Sox got the tying run at the plate against Clippard with two out in the bottom of the 9th at the Fens...

Salty's up.

9 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:00 pm

Takes a called strike and then a ball low, 1-1...

Soft grounder to first.

Game.

Now...Let's Go Yank-ees!

10 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:13 pm

Hughes cut his hair.

11 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:20 pm

Is he serious with that purple bow tie?

I mean, it's a fine bow tie but it sure doesn't go with that suit.

12 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:22 pm

Two batters, all fastballs--a walk, a K (and a fortunate called strike). Better not just throw heaters to D. Wright.

13 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:22 pm

Jesus, that's one straight fastball.

14 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:22 pm

Wright's gunna hit a homer to right before the weekend is over...just not yet.

15 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:23 pm

Got away with one there. Wright just missed it.

16 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:33 pm

What's up with the weird NY's on the Yankee caps?

17 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:34 pm

Very nicely done, Alex!

That's all it takes.

18 NYYfan22   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:35 pm

hey -- someone woked up the Yankees!

19 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:35 pm

Nice job, Alex.

20 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:36 pm

Nice hit, Robbie, that's what I like to see.

21 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:37 pm

Uh oh, bases loaded.

22 NYYfan22   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:38 pm

the score truck is warmed up and ready for action..

23 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:40 pm

Garbage.

24 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:40 pm

22) Stalled for now.

25 NYYfan22   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:40 pm

fuckin curse of the basso loadino.

26 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:42 pm

Wow, nice change up to Duda.

27 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:45 pm

Wow.

Jim Thome at 605 HR.

28 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:45 pm

Murphy is a pain in the ass at bat, huh?

29 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:46 pm

Didn't get a hit but that was not a bad ab by Murph.

30 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:48 pm

McCarver said that lefties don't like hitting against Hughes. Ike with a base hit. And you got to figure a couple of lefties will take Hughes deep tonight too, right?

31 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 6:55 pm

Nice pick by D. Wright.

32 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:00 pm

Yeah, good thing lefties don't like hitting against Hughes. Right. T Mac. Shithead.

33 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:00 pm

[30] You were saying?

34 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:12 pm

Gee has settled in.

35 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:16 pm

Damn, Curtis fucked that one up.

36 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:18 pm

Murph did Hughes a favor there, swinging 3-0.

37 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:18 pm

Ump is calling that outside pitch, for both sides.

38 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:19 pm

0-1 pitch, Hughes got away with one to Davis...fouled it back. Wasn't up but was straight...

39 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:20 pm

Got away with another one, a worse pitch, up, right over the plate, on the 1-2 pitch.

40 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:20 pm

Don't lose him, Phil, dammit.

41 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:21 pm

Phil walks him. Now flirting with disaster.

I smell three run homer.

42 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:22 pm

Thank god.

43 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:28 pm

Two shitty at bats tonight for Ibanez.

44 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:28 pm

Swish missed a pitch to hit on the first pitch.

45 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:29 pm

I like that Santana guy.

46 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:37 pm

I wish our guys knew how to do that kind of thing.

47 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:39 pm

Wow, that was a strike?

Cool, I'll take it.

48 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:44 pm

Derek is really not seeing the ball well at all.

49 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:45 pm

That first inning looms large now. Have a bad feeling about this game. A 4-2 loss kind of feeling. You know Hughes is going to give up another dinger.

50 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:48 pm

Right. I mean. Wright.

51 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:52 pm

At least they've only been solo homers. Enough of this Dillon Gee nonsense. Time for some fucking runs.

52 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:56 pm

Alex, it's time.

53 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:58 pm

Dammit, just missed it. Sounded pretty good. Nice base running by Curtis.

54 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 7:59 pm

"Will it carry?"

It didn't even make the warning track.

He was jammed and I thought maybe I even heard the bat crack.

55 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:02 pm

Robbie just swung at ball four but the ump has been calling the outside pitch, so...

56 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:03 pm

Up to Mark...

57 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:03 pm

I don't know what the point is of having 3-4-5 hitters if they can't drive in runs.

58 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:04 pm

Yaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy!

59 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:04 pm

Yay Tex!

60 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:05 pm

Fucking A.

61 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:05 pm

Hang em and bang em.

62 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:06 pm

C'mon Swish, double down.

63 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:06 pm

Hey, Swish, cut down on that swing now, Conan.

64 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:07 pm

Up to the pen...

65 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:12 pm

And for you hoop fans...end of the 1st. Celts up 27-23

66 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:13 pm

Nice hit by Thole. And a good performance by Phil.

67 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:13 pm

65) That won't last, though I'd love to see the Celts win. I think it'll be too much Lebron and too much Wade in the fourth quarter.

68 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:17 pm

That was a nice first play of the game to see. Atta boy, Curtis!

69 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:19 pm

Curtis makes it look unique to him. Great play.

70 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:27 pm

[anybody] How did Hughes pitch?

71 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:39 pm

70) Nicely. Good fastball. Okay curve and mixed in a change effectively. Just gave up the two homers and they were of the solo variety.

How nervous is everybody about this inning? Count me as plenty with Clay Rapada looming.

72 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:40 pm

I know Rapada is here for a reason. I know his job is to get lefties. But I just never have a good feeling about the guy. Shit, I hope I'm wrong.

73 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:40 pm

I don't care for Clay Rapada

74 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:45 pm

[71] Cheers. Well that was a highly successful top of the 8th.

75 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:47 pm

end of the half...celts 53-46

76 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:47 pm

Wow. That went as well as could be expected. Nice job by Wade and Clay. Now, an insurance run...is that too much to ake?

77 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:48 pm

75) Good game so far. Wonder if the Celts played a perfect half like the Spurs did in Game 6 against the Thunder?

Let's go CELTS!

78 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:48 pm

Curtis is The Man!

79 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:49 pm

nice. curtis is the man.

80 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:49 pm

Is any other Yankee in double digits? if not, 90 HR us even more impressive.

81 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:50 pm

The Grandy Man can.

82 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:50 pm

80) I think Robbie has 11 and Teix has 10.

83 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:50 pm

[78] hah!

84 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:55 pm

Curtis has a club option for 2013. Do the Yanks give him a longer deal before that I wonder?

85 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 9, 2012 8:58 pm

Gameday has those pitches in the zone.

86 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 9, 2012 9:06 pm

Nice win.

87 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 9, 2012 9:08 pm

Outstanding.
