To That Same Old Place that You Laughed About

Old Timer’s Day at the Stadium or “The Return of Tanyon Sturtze!”

Laughs and old men running around in costumes playing a boy’s game.

More heat. Boy, is it hot.

Phil Hughes follows as the Yanks try to break even against the White Sox.

Never mind the nostalgia: Let’s Go Yank-ees!

Untuck!

39 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jul 1, 2012 3:56 pm

I'm getting fond of the untucking meme. Nice win, and after the way the game started, and unexpected great performance by Hughes.

40 seamus   ~  Jul 1, 2012 3:57 pm

hurray!

umm, so i've been out of the loop. why is soriano so intent on untucking his shirt?

41 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jul 1, 2012 3:57 pm

The Yanks should have taken 3 of 4 this series, but the 2 game comeback was strong.

42 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jul 1, 2012 3:59 pm

[40] That's his victory ritual. Like, time to relax. Now that he's been great as a closer, we're getting used to it, and looking forward.

43 seamus   ~  Jul 1, 2012 4:03 pm

[42] ah ok cool. michael kay was making a big deal about it the other day but didn't explain the why. thanks.

Baltimore is sinking like a lead balloon.
TB is lost without Longoria.
In 2 weeks, it will be us and Boston.

Somehow, while we have been Winning, I don't feel we have played really well. Our pitching has been very strong.
We hit a LOT of HRs.
And that has us on top of a Division where the 2nd place team is only 6 games over .500.

Yet we have a comfortable lead in the Division. I'm not sure how to feel going forward. If Teix and ARod are what they have been so far, that's not heartening. Jeter has been sub-par the last 8 weeks.

Is the core of this team Robbie, Grandy and Swisher... and our SP?

45 RIYank   ~  Jul 1, 2012 5:08 pm

[44] Man, I really hope we continue to play not very well. I think we're .750 over the last 36 games. I could definitely stand another month of Not Very Well.

46 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jul 1, 2012 5:08 pm

I missed today but watching the repeat of the pre-game...Darryl, Rickey, Bernie...

It's lovely to see them all.

47 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jul 1, 2012 5:12 pm

[45] Yes, do let's stink up the joint!

But I know what OYF means, and share his sentiments. I, too, am surprised the team is playing as well as it is because it doesn't look like it's playing as well as it is when it plays well. And when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

Old Timer's Day! Have always wanted to go to one of these. Hope the guys kept hydrated, that heat wave looks serious.

49 RIYank   ~  Jul 1, 2012 6:36 pm

Right, well, with any luck they'll shorten up their swings and stop hitting home runs. They'll still probably win more than half their games, and they'll look good.

50 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 1, 2012 6:36 pm

[0] Tanyon Sturtze! I read Stump Merril was there today..no Alvaro Espinoza??

51 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 1, 2012 6:39 pm

Chad Qualls?

52 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 1, 2012 6:42 pm

Paul O'Neil is growing on me as a sidekick to Kay. Cone, O'neil, Singleton should be the rotation. Leiter, Pinella and Flaherty...they can go.

53 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 1, 2012 7:43 pm

Wow, Cano's swing is just beautiful. Laser shot home run.

54 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 1, 2012 8:07 pm

2) These pictures were taken two years ago at Old Timer's Day. The old guy was 100 years old and brought to the stadium that day as "the oldest living Yankee fan." I don't recall his name but he had a great face. And yes, the Yankee wives LOVED Swisher. He was pouring on the charm for them.

55 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 1, 2012 8:13 pm

[54] Great photos.

My mother loves Swisher too. :)
