OK, so it appears that the outfield-DH rotation will now revolve around keeping Ichiro in RF?

2 RIYank   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:01 pm

[1] No, I think it's just that Girardi wants to be a little more careful with Swisher -- I think tomorrow we'll see Swisher in RF and Ichiro in LF.

Can I say that I hope the Yankees do not trade for a third baseman? Because it's pointless to give away prospects for someone who is only a little better than Chavez, and it's stupid to try to trade for a really good player and then be stuck when A-Rod returns.

Also, Joba had another good rehab, fastball sitting 94-98 (LoHud).

It's always amusing to see how long I can go listening to the ESPN booth before I have to mute the sound ... 1 minute, 15 seconds, tonight!

4 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:07 pm

[2] Isn't Chaves hurt again? I wouldn't mind seeing Laird get a shot, but his AAA record does not inspire much confidence.

With respect Joba, you simply can't have enough protection for the 8th inning.

5 RIYank   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:10 pm

[4] I think he PH-ed last night. Chavez. You might be confused -- we have a lot of ezes on our team.

6 RIYank   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:11 pm

By the way, I like Hiroki Kuroda. (Whom the Boston talking heads very often call "Hideki".)

7 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:11 pm

[4] Oh, Crankypants, what did they do to you over there in the land of funny money???

8 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:13 pm

[5] I though he got dinged up in the first game was going to sit out the next two. I agree that trading prospects for a rental who is probably no better than Chavez is a bad idea. BUT...that assumes that Chavez can stay in one piece for the next 6 or 8 weeks. I would not mind if the team explored options for BUIF/BU3B. Consider it an upgrade over Nix.

9 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:15 pm

[7] Are you referring to Germany or Canada?

10 RIYank   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:16 pm

Well, Chavez definitely punch hut yesterday. Got two ABs.

11 RIYank   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:17 pm

[9] Some of us are skeptical about the alleged Germany/Canada distinction.

12 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:21 pm

[9] Wait, Germany AND Canada? Well, no wonder ...

13 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:29 pm

Meh.

The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man wanders a hit into a double ...

Good work, Swish.

hmmm

17 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:42 pm

Orel brings up the ol' base clogger meme. What's the pitcher equivalent to a base clogger? Strike thrower? Out getter? Those guys suck!

18 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:45 pm

[17] Yeah, maybe "gets too many strike outs."

19 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:46 pm

I'm getting that feeling this is going to be another torturous Sunday Night Baseball game.

20 rbj   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:48 pm

[17] Strikeouts are fascist. - Crash Davis, Bull Durham.

How's the team lately? I've been doing so much traveling lately I don't even know what state I'm in.

21 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:50 pm

When did the OF wall at NYS become black instead of dark blue, or is my picture fouled up?

22 OldYanksFan   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:50 pm

[17] Better then the Fox boys.

23 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:51 pm

Ahhhh ... sit down, you rat faced fuck!

24 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 29, 2012 7:51 pm

Atta boy, Dusty. Nice 5-4-3 inning ending dp.

25 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:02 pm

Oh fer fuck's sake ... I want to kill everyone in the ESPN booth with an ice axe ...

26 RIYank   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:05 pm

[25] An excellent choice, I commend you. Too many otherwise sensible people would opt for a machete, or worse a firearm.

27 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:06 pm

[25] Can't be worse than FOX. Timmah yesterday went on a soliloquy about "in my day..your coaches didn't ask you abotu your pitch count..they asked you..(dramatic pause)..did you WIN the game?"

28 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:08 pm

Blargh ... Pettite suffered a "set back" this week.

Meh.

29 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:09 pm

[27] Oh, don't worry, I'd kill everyone in the Fox booth with the flat side of a shovel.

30 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:12 pm

[28] Do injured players for the Yankees ever not suffer a setback?

31 RIYank   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:16 pm

[30] I don't believe Carl Pavano ever suffered a setback.

32 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:18 pm

[31] Or Britt Burns!

33 RIYank   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:22 pm

Dubront has now thrown seven pitches to Russell, all balls.

Okay, there's the first strike!

34 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:24 pm

Become a true Yankee, Irchiro! ; )

35 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:27 pm

Watching the corpse of Ichiro is not enthusing me.

36 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:27 pm

Well that 2-1 swing was shite and the pop out was Bollocks.

37 RIYank   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:33 pm

Kind of annoying that we're wasting this good Kuroda start. I do think Doubront is weakening, but our hitters are squandering walks, which is bad.

38 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:36 pm

This game is rather snoozalicious on Gameday..any more exciting on TV?

39 seamus   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:42 pm

[38] feels the same to me but just audio/gameday for me.

40 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:43 pm

For fuck's sake! 1 hit through 5.

41 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:45 pm

[40] Maybe they need Tito to come give them a peptalk.

42 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:45 pm

[38] well, that depends on how much you get excited watching Ichiro! in a Yankee uniform.

43 Jose Sarduy   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:48 pm

this game is painful

44 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 29, 2012 8:49 pm

What. The. Fuck?

Does Cody Ross have on the side of his face???

51 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:08 pm

Man, the S.P.M.M. really doesn't like to move around much in LF, does he.

52 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:13 pm

[49] No. In fact, they have to sign a waiver to that effect before MLB will let them step to the plate.

The more you know ...

53 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:15 pm

Kuroda really has been the Yankees' best picture this year. maybe the bats will wake up this inning.

54 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:16 pm

[53] Martin, Ichiro! and Nix coming up. Got you excited?

55 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:17 pm

[54] I'm Totally Turgid!!!

56 Boatzilla   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:18 pm

Hey, Nix. That was garbage.

74 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:28 pm

80 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:34 pm

[77] You can't sneak that Miike drop by me, Cult! :)

He didn't score on the single though?

81 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:34 pm

Dammit! Another single with a man a second that does not produce a run. grrrrrr!!!

82 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:34 pm

Jeter partially redeems a rough night. I might have sent Ichiro, but I guess you have to trust Granderson.

83 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:36 pm

Squeeze would be awesome.

84 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:37 pm

93 Boatzilla   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:39 pm

First pitch, Tex. WFT!

No good having Ichiro on the team if you can't get him home from 2nd with less than two outs.

Fucking garbage.

94 Boatzilla   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:41 pm

I think it's time to find a new 3rd base coach.

95 OldYanksFan   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:42 pm

We not only suck at RISP, but can't even get a sac fly of high bouncing ground ball. Just terrible.

96 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:43 pm

[94] RT certainly has been encouraging that line of thinking this year, hasn't he???

97 monkeypants   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:46 pm

[95] Yet ironically, the team DID get a hit with RISP---Jeter's single.

98 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 29, 2012 9:48 pm

Thompson had a few real bad sends earlier in the year iirc. I think he's now far less aggressive because of it.
