"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

New York Minute

The Shades of Grey books made their way around my vicinity at work. A co-worker gave the first one to me, said The Wife might like it. What do I know? I took it home. And just like Mikey, she liked it, she liked it! (and in a roundabout way, so did I, Hell-to-the-Yes).

Now, I notice women reading these books on the subway all the time. I smile to myself and fight the urge to say, “Hey, my wife is reading that, too. She loves it. Let’s discuss.”

The books are viral - it's insane!!! I've read the books myself and can tell you that I will see on average 3 or 4 different women reading one of them on the trains when I'm going to and from work/gym, etc.

I find it funny though that they try to conceal the cover, like it's a dirty little secret!

I liked the books. They're it's no different then the Harlequin romance novels, with the swashbuckling pirate and the poor wench who falls for him. Just a little more...well...graphic, let's say. It's harmless chick-porn/erotica.

Anne Rice did it too - check out her "Sleeping Beauty" series that she wrote under one of her A.N. Roquelaure pseudonym.
