Up Around the Bend

This never happens–I don’t recall the last time it did–but I played hooky on the Banter today. Wasn’t be design, I just had to be up and out of the house mad early and just returned now. I thought about it a few times while I was tooling around Manhattan cause it’s not like me to leave the Banter unattended. But I tried to give myself a break and not feeling guilty. Summer Friday is all, right?

Anyhow, all is well, although hotter n hot here in the Bronx as the Yanks face the Mariners at the Stadium.

Yanks need C.C. to get on a roll here.

2. Jeter SS

4. Teixeira 1B

Never mind the temperature: Let’s Go Yank-ees!

Wondered if you were okay this morning.
Nice to take a summer Friday, especially in this heat.

I replaced my Bronx Banter bookmark with a link to a Youtube compilation of Michael Kay bashing Mussina.

Sorry Alex.

Ha! Yeah, even when I'm going to be out I usually leave a note, you know?

Anyhow, I just watched the first track and field event and it was some long ass race and the winner was a beautiful runner who was matched with three others until the final lap and she just fucking took off! It was so moving.

In the meantime, Yanks must win 2 of 3 this weekend, right? And maybe they fortunate tomorrow against the King.

6) First Matsui now Johnny. Guess Cash chose correctly when he picked up Raul.

[7] You're entitled to a Friday I'm in Love interlude. I saw that 10,000M race too. The Ethiopian woman, Dibaba is thought of as the GOAT. Imagine, 6+ miles in 30 minutes, and she sprinted the last lap winning by a lot. It seemed she wasn't even breathing hard at the end.

Yankees are more interesting now. I think they will get to the King, and sweep the weekend.

7) She was incredible at the end there. Her legs looked like they were part of a machine not a human being.

August 3rd, right?
Yes, we've come to the portion of the schedule in which we fuck up the Mariners.

Hey Alex... what about some time in Vermont for you? I would think yuz guyz would want to escape NY in the heat and head north.

14 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 3, 2012 6:15 pm

I don't like this lineup. Grandy with a .341 OBP and 29 HRs leading off? I say:

1. Jeter SS
2. Swisher RF
3. Cano 2B
4. Teixeira 1B
5. Granderson CF
6. Ibanez DH
7. Chavez 3B
8. Martin C
9. Suzuki LF

Hey, I've been playing hooky the past two weeks, mostly because I've been traveling and can't get Yankee games. Plus the only thing the whole family will agree on on tv is the Olympics. Should be back Monday (don't even know if there's a game.)

Yeah, the African distance runners never look like they're pushing themselves to the limit. Fluid and gracefulness come to mind.

2 runs should be plenty enough for the Big Fella. May as well pile some more, though.

Wow the Dodgers are going for it with all the players they picked up. I guess when you have a $2B team, what's a few million to win the NL west with no competition 'cept the Giants (Arizona will fade).

18 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 3, 2012 7:37 pm

Good hustle Captain!

19 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 3, 2012 7:45 pm

10 k's. Hot damn! The stupid Casper homer put a real wrench into CC's start.

20 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 3, 2012 7:56 pm

Holy 2 run cheapie! We'll take it!

21 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 3, 2012 7:58 pm

Chavie!

22 RIYank   ~  Aug 3, 2012 8:40 pm

[14] I know, Old Yankee Fan, it's yet another Ugly Line-Up. Damn. We aren't going to win another game until A-Rod comes back.

(I'm never going to get tired of giving you a hard time about this.)

I know the score is 6-1 in favor of the Yankees, but that was a dreadful at bat from Martin ...

24 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 3, 2012 8:43 pm

[22] I KNOW!!! I think after tonight, we will have played .500 baseball since ARod's been out.

25 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 3, 2012 8:44 pm

Weird, why get Phelps up if you've got Soriano throwing as well?

26 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 3, 2012 8:45 pm

ACK ... ley.

27 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 3, 2012 8:46 pm

Sox and Twinkies tied at 5. Twins with 3 errors allowing 3 unearned Runs.

Really great game from CC. From the little I could see of the game during Olympics commercials (I've lost control of the TV), CC was on stellar. Paul O'Neill was actually very insightful tonight (maybe it was the small doses). "With CC's stuff tonight, he just has to make his pitches to dominate this Seattle line-up".

29 RIYank   ~  Aug 3, 2012 8:58 pm

[24] Yes, scoring an average of 6.25 runs/game! Anemic.

30 Boatzilla   ~  Aug 3, 2012 9:19 pm

I'm sorry, I can't hear Trayvon Robinson's name without thinking of Travyon Martin. Dude should change his name for me.

Let's get Kuroda some runs tomorrow. Get to King Felix early.

Looks like I'm going to miss this entire Olympics. Generally I wake up too late and when I look at the TV it's either judo or ping pong and some Japanese announcer rooting his ass off for the home team. Do they do that in America?

31 RIYank   ~  Aug 3, 2012 9:31 pm

Sox load the bases with one out in the 8th...
Ellsbury strikes out.

[30] Yeah, there's a very heavy emphasis on American athletes and sports that Americans are succeeding in. I have (on Verizon) six channels of Olympics, so getting a pretty good selection. I like judo now! (Table tennis is dull, though.)

32 RIYank   ~  Aug 3, 2012 9:35 pm

Pony flies out, Sox squander the runners. 5-5 going to the ninth.

33 Boatzilla   ~  Aug 3, 2012 9:35 pm

[31] For some reason I just don't get judo, even thought the Japanese go crazy for it. To me it seems like a shirt grabbing contest.

I hope I get to see some Bolt and maybe some hoops. But we are leaving for the beach tomorrow and no TV for 3 nights.

34 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 3, 2012 9:42 pm

[33] I like watching the Olympics, but three days at the beach, much better.

35 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 3, 2012 10:25 pm

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
a very satifying loss for the Sox.
2 Loses in a row...
to the bottom feeding Twins...
at Home in Fenway...
after leading 5-1.
