Move Along

The Yanks look to take the weekend series against the Mariners this afternoon in the Bronx.

It’s overcast and supposed to rain. Still hot and sticky.

Course there’s no shame losing to Felix Hernandez, especially not when he’s dealing like he was yesterday. But that’s over and done with and the Yanks are in the business of beating inferior teams, even ones that are playing well.

They turn to Fab Five Freddy and hope to score a truck load of runs themselves.

So, never mind the forecast: Let’s Go Yank-ees!

I'll say again that I REALLY don't like Granderson leading off. With our normal lineup (Gritner batting 9th) and Russell having a decent year, it would be OK. But with Martin (.311 OBP) and Ichiro (.273!!!) ahead of Grandy, his next 10 HRs will probably result in 12 RBI.

You can say Batting Order doesn't matter much, but this lineup is the calculation to bust that theory. What's wrong with:

1. Derek Jeter SS
2. Nick Swisher RF
3. Robinson Cano 2B
4. Mark Teixeira 1B
5. Curtis Granderson CF
6. Raul Ibanez DH
7. Eric Chavez 3B
8. Russell Martin C
9. Ichiro Suzuki LF

With ARod out and Ibanez (instead of Jones) in, we are just going to have a LH batting lineup. We do have Jones, McGehee, Nix and Steward (all RH batters) on the bench if a Lefty is brought in late in the game.

OK.... where's the game thread?

3 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 5, 2012 12:58 pm

Look at them wheels on Stewart!

4 RIYank   ~  Aug 5, 2012 12:58 pm

Yay Curtis!
Brilliant line-up construction by Joe, as usual.

Man, talk about a day I wouldn't want to be at the park. Broiling hot. And both of these pitchers are taking For-ev-er. Yanks missed a couple of fat pitches here in the third--Ibanez and Swisher. Frustrating.

6 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 5, 2012 1:25 pm

Nice quick fourth for Freddy, though.

7 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 5, 2012 1:40 pm

Atta boy, Jetes!

8 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 5, 2012 1:40 pm

Thanks, Captain! 2 out rbi. Huzzah!

9 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 5, 2012 1:58 pm

C'mon, Freddy, hold it together. Allows a run in the 5th with two out. Man on second now...

10 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 5, 2012 1:59 pm

This game is so dull, man, the Yanks better hang on...

11 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:04 pm

That's a big boy home run from Raul.

12 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:04 pm

A bomb by Raul. And the poor guy in the first row of the bleachers dropped it.

13 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:04 pm

7 string guitar!

his 15th homer

14 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:09 pm

Pretty tired of these plunkings from the M's pitchers.

15 RIYank   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:12 pm

Good afternoon to work on stuff in the kitchen while the game is on.

I don't even have the air conditioning on! Nice little breeze coming through the window, maybe 80 degrees out. So cool, like Raul.

16 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:14 pm

[14] yeah, me too.

hmmm, freddy done at 85 pitches. iirc, GI Joe pulled him early in another recent start. bullpen better not blow this...

17 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:23 pm

a veritable rally!

c'mon cap!

18 RIYank   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:26 pm

I hate it when Jeter decides to bunt. I guess he did almost get a hit, but still.

19 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:27 pm

[18] so that's what happened. huh...

20 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:27 pm

21 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:34 pm

More 2 out rbi from Raul the Cool. Nice!

22 RIYank   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:34 pm

Ra-OOOOOOOOOL!

23 RIYank   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:35 pm

[19] Oh, yeah, sorry -- he squared and took the first pitch, then the second one was perfectly placed but just rolled foul.

24 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:37 pm

Fuck off Ollie.

25 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:38 pm

7-string guitar!

toldjya it was a rally : )

26 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:38 pm

15) I wish I was where you at. Couldn't imagine being in the BX right now without the ac.

27 RIYank   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:43 pm

Booooooone!

28 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:48 pm

hey, ichiro continues his hit streak!

29 RIYank   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:49 pm

Thelarmis, that must be a puzzling Gameday description of Ichiro's double, huh? (It was a CF pop that Saunders lost in the sun.)

30 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:50 pm

pitchers duel between ball-tumor & tampon.

31 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:50 pm

Looks like Minn. could sweep the Sox. The Sox ONLY have a late 3 run lead....

32 RagingTartabull   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:50 pm

44 to go!!

33 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:51 pm

[29] acha. if the center fielder got rid of that awful "u" in his surname, he would've caught it! ; )

34 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:53 pm

[31] let's hope old friend Dancin' Melancon gives up a granny!

35 RIYank   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:53 pm

I know they have a 4-run lead, but that bunt was just so stupid. Mindless.

36 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:54 pm

damn. chris stewart was having himself some game til that unproductive popup...

and props to boone!

37 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 2:54 pm

[35] i agree.

38 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 5, 2012 3:10 pm

David Price pitches 8 innings of 2 hit, shutout ball (shades of the King). Baltimore and TB... No score, top of the 9th.

39 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 3:13 pm

another multi-hit game for jete...

40 RIYank   ~  Aug 5, 2012 3:22 pm

Untucked.

41 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 3:22 pm

that's 150 wins for The Chief!

42 thelarmis   ~  Aug 5, 2012 3:28 pm

aj burnett with another great game for the buccos.

43 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 5, 2012 3:31 pm

TB and O's in the 10th, scoreless. 5 Hits total between both teams.

44 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 5, 2012 3:35 pm

Good ole AJ.
Takes a 3 hitter into the 9th.
Gets 2 easy ground outs, and then walks the next 2, so he's taken out after 8 2/3rds innings.

45 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 5, 2012 3:42 pm

Since Freddie has been back from the BP he has posed a 3.89 ERA.

46 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 5, 2012 3:48 pm

On a BB and a double, O's score 1 in the 10th. TB now up. Let's go O's.
