look at that lineup! If Ichiro was in the 9-slot I would be certain that a Banterer had infiltrated the Binder. Maybe Girardi checks the site here for ideas.

The A's are beating up on the Angels again, that team is amazing.

Rangers took the lead against the Red Sox in the top of the 9th, GO RANGERS!

3 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 8, 2012 4:22 pm

After then Sox score FOUR to tie it in the 7th, Aceves gives up one in the 9th, as Texas eeks out a pitching duel, 10-9.

Beckett was brilliant, giving up 8 ER in 5 IP.
The Ace now has an ERA of 4.97.
Beckett's ERA in the 1st inning? 10.42!!!!!!

And Grandy goes from leading off to 6th? Behind Chavy?
JoeJoe pulling lineups out of his ass.

[3] Yeah, but that ass has gotten spanked publicly for leading him off, so at least he's switched that nonsense; unless there's something wrong with someone else we haven't heard about (which is entirely likely), I bet even Cash had to wonder about that. [1] Captain Queeg? I doubt it. My only guess is that he's avoiding putting him dead last because it might be perceived as a humiliation, a la batting Alex in the eight spot. But yes, batting him 9th would be much more productive. Maybe the binder needs a public spanking...

5 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 6:24 pm

So, nobody home for the game, huh?

6 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 6:24 pm

[5] I'm here.
Game just got a bit interesting. HBP for each team in the first.

7 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 6:26 pm

Yeah, I was not happy, after that impressive start, to see two on for Delmon Young. But, no harm.

8 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 6:40 pm

Nobody makes that play like Robbie.

9 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 6:44 pm

Dammit. That totally fucks things for CC. Bullshit!

10 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 6:45 pm

Free base runners: good.
Chance of losing someone to injury: not so good.

11 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 6:51 pm

Curtis looks pretty good in the 6 hole. 3 run job. YES!

12 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 6:51 pm

Curtis! Thanks for the HBP run, Tigers.

13 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 6:52 pm

That (for example) is why I really don't think we should spend a lot of emotional energy worrying about the line-up construction.

14 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 6:53 pm

[12] It's by far the best way to get revenge on a head hunter. I love a Curtis homer driving in the HBP waaaaaay better than some stupid return HBP by CC.

15 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 6:59 pm

[14] Yup. Same with Bryce Harper stealing home after that HBP.

16 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 7:02 pm

[15] I guess that's the ultimate, because it's the guy who actually got hit showing up the pitcher.

17 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 7:03 pm

Who needs A-Rod?

18 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 7:12 pm

[17] Who?

19 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 7:13 pm

I'll have what Chavez is having.

20 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 7:14 pm

[19] Chivas, I figure.

21 Chyll Will   ~  Aug 8, 2012 7:29 pm

I don't have the stats to back it up, RI, but I would think that's EXACTLY why we worry about the lineup construction. Better chance of Curtis seeing not only better pitches, but with runners on base too as opposed to leading off with nothing and subsequently having inferior hitters directly in front of him, no? Save for Ichiro, who's not nearly what he once was at any rate...

22 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 7:40 pm

Cruise Control Sabathia.

23 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 7:55 pm

[21] Better chance, but trivial effect.

(Also, the evidence is against the whole idea of a guy seeing better pitches because he has a good hitter behind him; but if that were true, then wouldn't batting right before Jeter provide protection for Curtis?)

24 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 7:57 pm

Okay, stop fucking around. Let's finish this game off, CC, and watch the Olympics.

25 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 7:57 pm

Stupid fucking tigers.

26 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 7:59 pm

BE SURE OF ONE!

27 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:03 pm

There's no need to make the game "interesting"

28 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:10 pm

More runs now.

29 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:14 pm

Hmm Jose Reyes half way to Joe D. Not going to get there, but I did get to watch him in low A-ball, he was clearly superior to most everyone else in the Sally league.

I'll take that run.

30 Chyll Will   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:15 pm

[23] It's still not an optimal use of his bat; he has a better than trivial chance of driving in runs lower in the lineup than in the lead off position. Guessing at whatever logic could be at play, wouldn't Swish be a more logical choice to lead off than Curtis (provided you don't need anyone to steal a base or score on a single if he does get on base)?

31 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:22 pm

[30] True, it's not optimal; not true that the difference is better than trivial.
I'm just saying it's really not worth worrying about. But yes, I would lead off with Swisher, if I were making the line-up.

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:23 pm

Hey stone hands, that was terrible. Had a nice big hop, too.

33 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:23 pm

Ugh, this game has turned into a grind. I trust we'll win. Tuning out, guys, later.

34 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:23 pm

Ah that A-Rod who would have had that. Bat may be slow, but the glove is still there.

35 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:31 pm

7-0 game now a royal pain in the ass. Jesus.

36 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:36 pm

&#!@I)

37 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:36 pm

So Yanks are going to lose this game, right?

38 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:36 pm

For crying out loud! I'd be embarrassed by accepting that "hit"

39 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:39 pm

So there were some girls on some sand and now it's 8-7. WTF!

40 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:39 pm

And some cheap ass hits too.

41 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:39 pm

I'm beginning to hate the Tigers.

42 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:39 pm

Who'll pitch the 8th?

43 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:41 pm

And Cano almost throws it away.

44 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:43 pm

About time. Going to be a tightwire act for Mo. Oh shit, that's right. . .

45 Jon DeRosa   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:47 pm

Feels like they are down a four spot instead of leading.

We are going to be talking about 2011 Robertson the way we talk about 2007 Joba.

46 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:48 pm

Big spot for Tex.

47 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:48 pm

Coke's got a mean face on.

48 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:48 pm

Can we get a run in here?

49 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:49 pm

Well that'll work. Now score 2 more.

50 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:49 pm

Indeed. Now, let's get those other two as well.

51 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:50 pm

Yes! Send the runner!

52 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:52 pm

Quick flip to the Olympics and the "old" gals (younger than me) win their third gold.

53 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:52 pm

Way to hang in there Chavie.

54 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:55 pm

It seems most times an opponent has a crazy long at bat they get a hit. C'mon Chavy!

55 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:56 pm

That's a really good job by Chavez.

56 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:58 pm

hoping for a two run single but one run will do. Double digits never felt so tense.

57 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 8:59 pm

[52] They were clearly the best team around. I wonder if the Brazil games will feature games on an actual beach. Dammit Curtis.

58 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:01 pm

3 run lead is better than a 1 run lead...

59 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:05 pm

Two run lead is better than a one run lead...

60 rbj   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:06 pm

[57] Rio? Beach? They better. Silly of anyone to compete with Rio for summer Olympics.

Oof. Good night all.

61 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:06 pm

Inside of low and in it was a fucking meatball.

62 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:07 pm

Robertson's pouring gasoline all over this fire, huh?

63 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:08 pm

Don't. Walk. Cabrera.

64 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:14 pm

Thank you, Mr. Boone.

65 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:28 pm

Don't see that every day.

66 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:32 pm

Good good good.

67 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:32 pm

Four run lead is better than a one run lead.

68 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:34 pm

Wow... the Angels hit FIVE HRs and STILL lost to Oakland.
IT'S BILLY BALL!

69 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:36 pm

Well at least Derks can run cause he sure can't throw.

70 RIYank   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:45 pm

Easy as pie.

71 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 8, 2012 9:46 pm

I know we won, but my stomach feels like we lost.
