With the division lead at 5 games (ie no longer gaping), these 7 games present an interesting challenge. I'm very curious to see what they've got. Any chance they win both series?

So Grandy bats 6th and Raul 8th?
It seems like Girardi is overtweaking a bit?
At least Ichiro is 9th.

That seems like a powerful lineup, and should give Dempster trouble. Hopefully Martin can hit his weight for the rest of the year.

Jeez Derek, airmail much?

Something about Phelps' stare is creepy.

Not Randy Johnson or Roger Clemens terrifying, but more "I wouldn't want to be locked in a room with him"

Michael Young has to be on the shortlist of worst players on baseball this year.

Yes, I know what that means for this series.

David "Ball Four" Murphy may never see another strike from us again

Ha!

Every out seems like a little victory against these Texans. A lot to ask of Phelps.

Those reaching back pop-ups for Chavez has got to aggravate his bum back.

11 rbj   ~  Aug 13, 2012 6:54 pm

And another Ha!

12 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 13, 2012 6:57 pm

That's got to be the game plan. Let the Rangers on base to get them out.

Johnny Pesky can now annoy Rizzuto in the great beyond. RIP

14 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:05 pm

That'll do.

15 rbj   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:05 pm

Swish!

Hmmmmmm......salami.......

18 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:05 pm

How great is that! Swish!

19 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:08 pm

Dempster continues to wish he stayed in the NL

20 rbj   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:11 pm

How about a repeat here, Curtis?

21 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:13 pm

Not enough sac so it's a sac for Grandy.

22 rbj   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:22 pm

Mo sighting!

23 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:25 pm

Nice inning by Phelps. That was the first time Ichiro looked handcuffed in the OF.

24 rbj   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:31 pm

I hope Phelps can go a full five to be in line for the win.

25 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:32 pm

Jeter having a Charlie Brown kind of game.

26 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:40 pm

Mr. Phelps completed his mission.

27 rbj   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:40 pm

Alright David. Good job.

28 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:47 pm

Why are we pulling Phelps? Isn't it a tad early (78 pitches)?

29 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:51 pm

[28] He was on a 75 pitch limit.

30 rbj   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:56 pm

Dang, that's a shot.

31 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 13, 2012 7:58 pm

They probably hate being lumped together; but what type of year would the Yankees be having if Chavez and Ibanez were not on this team? The "ez" boys?

From Left Field:
There are a number of great and famous calls in baseball history, but

"This one by Mattingly... OH HOLD ON TO THE ROOF!"

Fantaistic! Still gives me goosebumps.

33 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 13, 2012 8:03 pm

Lowe has GOT to be happy to be on the Yankees.

34 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 13, 2012 8:08 pm

[32] They play that as part of a commercial on Yes I believe. It is awesome indeed!

35 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 13, 2012 8:21 pm

I got lost in some Samba this morning, missing a blow out!
Sweep the evil Texans and get that lead back to 7+ games, I say!

36 rbj   ~  Aug 13, 2012 8:30 pm

Dang, forgot that we lost Mantle & Scooter on this day. Time to hoist a glass.

37 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 13, 2012 8:47 pm

How bout that Derek Lowe? The 2012 Reclamation Yankees.

38 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 13, 2012 8:47 pm

Wow... 4 IP for Lowe, with a 0.00 ERA and a Save!

39 rbj   ~  Aug 13, 2012 8:48 pm

Alright! Phelps for the W, Lowe for the save!

40 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 13, 2012 8:53 pm

Nice win, the game started out gloomy; the Rangers looked like they were about to score every inning, and the Yankees had weak at bats. Good to break the hex.

Phelps + Lowe = Gass + Black or Cook + Moore or Martin + Lewis or...?

Keep those Texans losing at Yankee Stadium.

Hey, I had the privilege of watching (some of) the game in a bar in NY State! Syracuse, to be precise. The first time in ages that I've watched a game on true YES, as opposed to the YES feed on mlb.tv. Good game to catch, even (or maybe especially?) without the sound.

Always admired Lowe -- now I can like him. (I know he would have liked to be picked up by the Sox, but the Yanks must have been in the next preferred group...)
