RAB discussed the cost of re-upping Swisher, as we did here the other day. Apparently he's asking for Werth money, which he's not... uh... yeah. But RAB suggested maybe Damon money. I think I'd go a little higher. Four years $60M?

Derek! Now 44 lead off hits.

3 Simone   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:13 pm

Derek is on fire!

4 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:14 pm

If Jeter sold his soul to the devil, I'll be very disappointed.

5 rbj   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:15 pm

Get Robbie a GPS, because he's lost at the plate.

6 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:16 pm

[4] Maybe he sold his soul to the company store?

7 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:16 pm

Booooooo.
Trade Cano.

8 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:17 pm

[6] Another day older and deeper in debt... Somehow it doesn't fit.

9 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:19 pm

So, I'm told is still 1999 for Derek?

10 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:20 pm

[9] He's partying like it.

11 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:21 pm

[9][10] A fortunate side effect of time distortions caused by Brett Gardner. An unfortunate side effect was last night's seemingly endless game.

12 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:21 pm

The White Sox crew has already informed interested Chicago listeners that the Yankees have a "$90 million infield." Who says those bozos don't understand moneyball? Then they remembered that A-Rod is injured.

I'm back to YES now.

13 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:22 pm

[11] Yes, it was amazing how 32 hours were fit into a single evening. Brett folded it in twelve dimensions.

14 rbj   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:23 pm

Also have to keep an eye on Mets vs. Rockies, could be #4 this year. Through 5.
Nevermind.

15 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:23 pm

I need to try an experiment, because I got comments mysteriously trapped last night:
Bullpen.

16 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:23 pm

Hm, so that wasn't it. How about:
roulette.

17 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:24 pm

Ah. It's the other word. Name of a game people play in a casino.

18 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:24 pm

Ah, it's the other word.

19 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:25 pm

Not allowed to post the name of a game people play in Vegas, uses a wheel and a ball. Weird.

20 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:25 pm

More seriously, watching the clip on MLB.tv, Jeter is really pulling the ball with authority a good bit these days, and he seems to be be pulling the ball more this year (his HR distribution according to hittrackeronline is perfectly balanced). He's such a better hitter when he turns on the ball a little and is not *completely* locked into flicking the ball to RF.

21 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:26 pm

Nix looks a little like Brett.

22 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:27 pm

[17] Maybe if you misspelled it. You know, like bullpen rouxlette.

23 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:28 pm

Ah, I see...back to the old leave-'em-loaded strategy from last night.

24 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:29 pm

Now I'm going to get really confused using the comment reference numbers (with two experimental comments awaiting mod). But [20] (I think) good idea, that will be my official term.

Oh, also, I think the, uh, building or institution that houses rouxlette is also disallowed. A kasino.

25 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:30 pm

Dewayne Wise...you can only hope to contain him.

26 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:30 pm

But how are the White Sox doing, you know, Dewayne-wise?

27 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:31 pm

Hm. I think two of those were strikes.

28 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:33 pm

Hey Ivan, I see this is going to be another long fucking night. Nice move Youk.

29 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:33 pm

Yoooooook!

30 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:34 pm

Done.

31 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:36 pm

Jetes, thanks.

33 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:40 pm

Let's see...Russian Roulette.

34 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:41 pm

[30] You really can't predict baseball...

35 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:42 pm

Wow, that's amazing.

I really want to make a joke about Joyce helping the Red Sox, but, bad taste.

36 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:43 pm

[30] OK...he's absolved for blowing the perfect game.

37 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:44 pm

Swisher was a little lackadaisical on that one.

38 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:46 pm

I just can't get over the thing Michael and Kenny were saying about Ruth and Dunn. Leading both leagues in all three True Outcomes. Obviously, nobody ever really thought the True Outcomes were all that mattered, but it's amazing how far apart they are. Dunn is having a good year, but of course it isn't anywhere near Ruthian.

39 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:48 pm

[1] Maybe the Yankees keep Swisher and move Granderson for a front line pitcher?

40 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:49 pm

The Angels have five runs in five innings.

Bob McClure is enjoying the game.

41 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 7:55 pm

Lotta true outcomes for Liriano tonight, too.

42 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:07 pm

[36] Is Granderson tradable? I have no idea what his contract is.

43 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:11 pm

Curtis has a team option for next year, something like $13M.

44 rbj   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:12 pm

[36] Andy does want another year. At this point I'm not sure what the projected rotation looks like.

45 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:14 pm

Mpants (i too am awaiting moderation on a comment, because I was a wise-ass and tried Russian Rouxlette as a test, so I don't know what comment # is right), Granderson is tradable according to other blogs (can you take that as gospel?).

46 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:18 pm

[40] Hm..so the likely scenario is that Swisher walks and Granderson is retained for his last contract year. Then the Yankees presumably flip Swisher's $10 million into...pitching? Another OF?

47 rbj   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:19 pm

Crap. Both that and Derek's were no doubters.

48 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:19 pm

[42] He has value, but he's in the las year of a contract, so I don't see how he can be turned into a front line pitcher. Maybe a trae-and-extend deal?

49 rbj   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:21 pm

Geez, we're only through 4?

50 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:24 pm

[45] Well, he could be turned into a front-line pitcher in the last year of his contract.

51 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:41 pm

What I miss? Any "He Gone!"'s for the Good Guys or the Pale Hose?

52 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:42 pm

[49] Maybe you can spice things up, because this game is a feel bad snoozer so far.

53 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:43 pm

Oy.

54 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:43 pm

Nova has lost the plot.

55 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:43 pm

Ivan Nova: Fail.

56 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:43 pm

It just gets better and better.

57 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:44 pm

[48] Yeah, but you just saw the Big One.

(Jetes knocked out the first pitch of the game.)

58 Hank Waddles   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:44 pm

Have I ever mentioned that Kevin Youkilis is not my favorite player?

59 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:44 pm

[51] I don't think he ever had it, honestly.

60 Hank Waddles   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:46 pm

I once predicted Nova would develop into the ace of this staff. Somehow I just don't see that happening.

61 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:48 pm

Maybe we could hire Bob McClure to work with Nova a little.

(I will be mentioning Bob McClure daily, in case anyone is wondering.)

62 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:49 pm

[58] I think Troy McClure would be more entertaning.

Ok, I am bad luck, showed up and Ugly hit a grand salami. Time to gop back to "work".

63 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:49 pm

So the Rays are going to be three back after tonight, huh?

64 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:50 pm

[57] Your made a fundamental error. When you use the term "develop" in reference to a young pitcher in the Yankees organization, you have to envision Joba or Hughes or the like as the result.

65 monkeypants   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:52 pm

[60] When the Yankees blow that 10 game lead entirely, things are gonna get ugly in the offseason.

66 Simone   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:53 pm

Bloody hell!

67 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:56 pm

AB, can you clear or delete my comment awaiting moderation? I just won't be able to sleep tonight if it's left hanging.

68 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 21, 2012 8:59 pm

Whew. At least the Rays lost.

69 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:00 pm

There is good news. KC beat Tampa 1-0 in 10 innings.

70 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:01 pm

65) Sure. I guess the term "Russian Roulette" is Spam sensitive.

71 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:02 pm

[68] thanks

72 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:12 pm

[68][69] I believe that's due to all the "Hot Russian Chicks Playing Roulette" websites that are out there these days.

This game sucks..Could the Yanks really blow this division lead?

73 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:14 pm

Dwayne Wise...Yankee Killa.

74 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:16 pm

That's an IBB I can live with.

75 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:18 pm

Damn, the guy still gives up only grounders. Amazing.

76 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:20 pm

He's something to ponder. Avril Levigne is engaged to marry Chad Kroeger. Poor Canada.

77 RIYank   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:20 pm

Seriously, I could see having a game with Fred or Phelps for four (or Phred or Felps phor phour) and then Lowe for three.

78 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:26 pm

[74] Not familiar with either of those two..Canadian celebrities? Sounds a long way from John Candy and Michael J. Fox..

79 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:29 pm

RIYank, you are my Sabre Connection..this may be really facile but, when people always write about "he can provide 'value'"..what are they really meaning? You can just say "production" right? I still think "value" sounds odd...(and I possibly already asked you this but forgot the answer..)

80 Hank Waddles   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:29 pm

I had knee surgery this morning (successful, nothing major), and I'm pretty much confined to the couch. What better than a Yankee game to pass the time, I thought. This was not the game I had in mind. I can't imagine anything more unwatchable.

81 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:32 pm

[78] You could put on the Hawk feed for added enjoyment. Remember, what doesn't kill you will make you stronger. Have a good recovery! :)

82 Hank Waddles   ~  Aug 21, 2012 9:38 pm

I hate this game.
