"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Which One of Dese?

Yanks lose today, their lead in the American League East shrinks to two and we’re back to bitching. They win, the lead is four and we can digest.

And so it goes in September.

Never mind the speech-making: Let’s Go Yank-ees!

[1] U.G.L.Y. You ain't got no ugly alibi you ugly. Hey, hey, you ugly. (per the line up of course) : )
But I predict Phil will pitch his game of the season today. Or shit the bed. Who knows! Go Yankees!

4 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:06 pm

Spring training lineup.

5 monkeypants   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:27 pm

[2][3][4] Really? I think it's a clear improvement over the last few days. At least someone who can hit (and could use some r-e-s-t) is in the DH slot.

6 Jose Sarduy   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:41 pm

Way to go Dickerson!
Lets hope the O's don't answer in the top of the 3rd.

7 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:44 pm

just tuning in. i get the game on tbs today!

wish jetes cashed stevie nix there...

8 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:49 pm

Predictable sequence to Manny M after 2-2. Hey, Phil, serve up a fastball over the heart of the plate, it gets smacked. S'what happens.

9 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:51 pm

really nice waking up to a yankee lead!

and good on dickerson. was it legit or a cheapie?

[3] let's go with 'his game of the season' : )

10 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:52 pm

Damn Tex Swish!!!

11 garydsimms   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:52 pm

So it's sliders away for the k. Watch out for mark. But swish nabs it. 2nd good d for swish

12 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:53 pm

Huuuuuuuughes!

13 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:53 pm

Oh, Dickerson's was legit. It was a seed. Line drive that kept rising. It was off a cutter and the pitch looked too inside for him to keep it fair. But I guess it didn't have too much bite. It was a real rope.

Nice job by Phil to get out of it, lucked out too because Markakais hit it on the screws.

14 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:53 pm

Damn, missed the homer.
Brilliant platoon by Girardi, huh?

15 seamus   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:54 pm

[9] legit, second deck line drive homer. he crushed it.

16 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:56 pm

thanks guys, on the homer. lookin' forward to his next AB, so i can see a replay!

17 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:57 pm

Hey! How about that Dickerson? That was a rocket to the upper deck. Always liked him the last couple of years when the rosters expand.

Let's go Hughes, Let's go Yankees. T

18 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 12:57 pm

RI - saw your 'stevie nix' from last night's game thread. she was my first crush a long, long time ago when i was a little kid...

19 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:01 pm

fuck yeah, dickerson!!!

20 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:02 pm

Maybe C-Dick is earning himself a bigger role for the month.

21 seamus   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:02 pm

damn snow cone for the catch!

22 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:03 pm

[18] Ah, that does not surprise me!

Whoa, the Rays are not wasting time against the Jays today, huh?

23 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:04 pm

Also: another really horrific loss for the Red Sox last night. Aceves got into a shouting match with My Little Pony. Bobby V seems like he really doesn't give a crap anymore -- "Yeah, what are they gonna do to me? they can only fire me once..."

24 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:05 pm

[20] and beyond...

[22] a touchdown after two...

25 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:07 pm

[23] oh, that is *terrific*!

Ace always seemed like a really nice guy. the pouting spat soured him on me a bit. this shouting match with the little midget fucker restores my like of him!

26 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:09 pm

Dick & Swish!

uhhhh...

C-Dick Swish!

uuuuummmm...

(forget it...)

27 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:15 pm

C-Dick? Is that the nickname for the captain from the Costa Concordia?

28 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:18 pm

The Rays are flooring it.

I probably shouldn't say this, for jinx purposes, but I am still more worried about the Rays than I am about the Orioles.

29 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:20 pm

[27] it's really terrible. RI used it in [20]

"eric dickerson's cousin" is too long though...

Chris D. ---> Christy could work, i suppose. but that would be better if he played a different position and was the son of matthew, rather than the son of dicker.

30 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:21 pm

[28] oh yeah, definitely.

hell, the "hate-los" are only 2.5 back from a wild card position...

31 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:21 pm

At least it's a solo shot.

32 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:21 pm

and there it is...

shocking. not.

33 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:21 pm

Man, you could see that coming.

34 monkeypants   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:22 pm

catfish hughes

35 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:22 pm

Hoooookay.

I always say, when Phil pitches, we're just rooting for the homers to be solos.

36 garydsimms   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:23 pm

31st HR for Phil

37 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:26 pm

phil can't seem to get it above 92 mph. his fastball is sitting mostly at 91 and it looks like max effort...

38 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:27 pm

[37] I'm pretty sure he had it a little higher earlier in the game.

39 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:28 pm

good, phil.

looks like a-rod will be back tomorrow. i'm guessing he'll dh...

40 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:28 pm

[38] oh, okay. cool.

41 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:29 pm

Thelarmis, is "P-Hughes" worse than "C-Dick"?

42 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:30 pm

well, that pretty nice stop by coltrane helped preserve the lead. (temporarily...?)

43 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:30 pm

Carbon copy for Markakis. Only this time Swish can't get it.

44 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:30 pm

[41] NO!!! P-Hughes is pretty damn good!

glad i thought of that one.

45 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:30 pm

[41} He P U(s) right now.

46 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:31 pm

C'mon Phil. Put him away.

47 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:31 pm

Yeah!

48 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:31 pm

YEAH!!!

49 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:32 pm

[47] i see you and raise 2 exclamation points and capital letters!

50 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:33 pm

No matter how that last inning looked. One run through five is a good day for any pitcher.

51 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:33 pm

Slider away, [11] nice!

52 garydsimms   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:33 pm

Ok ph

Question on protocol: I live in DC, goin to Balt next weekend. So do I wear pinstripe or gray jersey?

53 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:33 pm

nick markakis = karma kicks in

pretty damn cool.

54 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:34 pm

don't bunt!

show the homer tbs!!!

55 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:35 pm

draws a walk.

now...steal!

56 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:35 pm

It'll be a bunt, you know it...

57 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:37 pm

Wow, not bunting. Go figure.

58 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:37 pm

Ah, how silly of me...course he bunted.

59 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:37 pm

C-Dick anagrams to:

Sir Chicken Rods

i dig it.

60 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:38 pm

[52] Oh, grey, for sure.

61 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:38 pm

DJ will drive him in.

62 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:38 pm

ugh on the walk.

steal 3rd!

63 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:38 pm

beltre en fuego.

64 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:38 pm

53) Grey.

65 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:38 pm

Nix looks like Brett. To me. Maybe to Girardi, too?

66 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:40 pm

9-0 Rays.

67 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:42 pm

Dammit.

68 garydsimms   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:42 pm

Thanks!! Now is it 2 or 7?

69 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:42 pm

Way to go SWISH.

70 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:43 pm

Swish drives in Sir Chicken Rods!

[ah, it's a little bulky, but it'll do...for now.]

71 garydsimms   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:43 pm

We must resign Swish!!!!!!

72 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:43 pm

Who's afraid of Randy Wolf?

73 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:44 pm

sale vs. fucklander as the game of the week tonight. 1-game separates the kittens from the pale hose. should be a good showdown.

74 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:44 pm

Yay Swish! Much better than the game on Friday (painful to be at YS).

75 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:44 pm

[72] a crying boy?

76 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:45 pm

Cano has his head in his ass sometimes. Which is why as good as he is I think the Yankee announcers overstate that he's one of the top 5 best hitters in the game. He gives away at bats. Like this one here.

77 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:46 pm

[75] Or a duck, maybe. According to Prokofiev.

78 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:49 pm

[77] who's afraid of the J. Giles Band?

79 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:50 pm

Crud

80 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:51 pm

eck talks about reynolds' power and he homers.

now he mentions phil hadn't walked a batter. leadoff walk.

and now the lead is going to disappear...very, very fast.

bollocks.

81 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:51 pm

Oh boy.

82 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:52 pm

Aw fuck.

83 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:52 pm

and there it is.

phuck you, phil.

84 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:53 pm

Holy fuck.
See, it was important to keep them to solos.
Fuck.

85 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:53 pm

P. Hughes.

86 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:53 pm

[78] J. Geils? Or J. Giles?

87 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:57 pm

[86] either one is fine as they both anagram to Selig.

another leadoff walk. love it.

88 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:59 pm

nice.

89 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 1:59 pm

Lead-off walk to the fifth batter of the inning?

90 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:00 pm

[89] new pitcher.

91 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:01 pm

whew...

92 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:03 pm

Oh, [78] Peter Wolf, right?

93 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:05 pm

good hit, eric!

94 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:05 pm

Hughes is exasperating.

95 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:05 pm

[92] there ya go.

96 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:06 pm

[94] that's much nicer than what i was thinking.

97 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:08 pm

holy fucking crap.

double frick.

98 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:08 pm

Un be fucking lievable.

99 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:09 pm

Man, I miss Posada.
(Not that he didn't hit into his share of DPs.)

100 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:10 pm

FWIW Sterling's Dickerson call was, "Dickerson Christens the 2nd deck." I thought that was clever. But he also added he doesn't recall ever seeing a homer hit there. Grain of salt with him, though. And I guess expecting Phil to not fucking suck is too much to ask. Geez.

101 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:12 pm

Why warm Rapada up and not use him against Eppley?

102 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:17 pm

[101] Hm, because it would be really, really weird to use one of your relief pitchers against another?

103 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:18 pm

Joba? Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

104 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:18 pm

105 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:18 pm

101) Doh. I meant Markakis. So angry I can't type straight.

106 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:22 pm

3 Sliders in a row to Jones. Does he go to the heater? Up the ladder?

107 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:22 pm

Nope another slider. 2-2, dangerous territory.

108 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:22 pm

Another slider and he's lucky it was hit foul. Is he scared of his fastball?

109 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:23 pm

Shakes Martin off and then has a meeting on the mound. C'mon MEAT, get it together.

110 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:24 pm

Holy Shit is he lucky!

111 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:24 pm

I LOVE me some C-Dick.

113 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:24 pm

116 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:24 pm

Game saving catch by Dickerson. Provided the Yanks can, you know, actually score some more fucking runs.

117 garydsimms   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:25 pm

Thanks
For the call up.!

118 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:25 pm

128 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:31 pm

130 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:32 pm

Garbage.

131 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:32 pm

total fucking waste...

132 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2012 2:33 pm

WTF?

156 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:00 pm

Why? Why not leave Boon in at this point?

157 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:01 pm

[156] i know, right? esp. since boone faces both lefties and righties.

unbelievable.

this has to be the worst game of the season...

158 jjmerlock   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:03 pm

Depressing. So fucking depressing. I'm not even angry. Probably because I'm too hung over to register an emotion other than stomach-scraping pain.

159 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:03 pm

Of course there's no D.P.

160 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:03 pm

162 jjmerlock   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:04 pm

Who did he bring in now? I stopped following gameday, which I should never have started, because it always brings shit luck.

163 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:04 pm

[159] well, it is DePressing...

164 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:04 pm

165 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:04 pm

mercy.

166 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:05 pm

[162] cory wade.

167 jjmerlock   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:05 pm

[161] I'm on the edge of consciousness, that's about it.

Please tell me he did not bring in Robertson. That would be insane. He didn't do that, right?

168 jjmerlock   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:06 pm

[166] Oh, people were referring to the other Robbie. Thanks.

This does have the feeling of a Cory Wade-type situation.

169 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2012 3:06 pm

for the first time, i'm starting to feel as though we could possibly be pushed out of the playoffs by the birds and tampon.
