It's a decent lineup at least.
Is ARod now the permanent DH?

2 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 12, 2012 4:21 pm

And while we're asking for things:

How about two wins a row?

3 seamus   ~  Sep 12, 2012 5:23 pm

for fecks sake, this team has got to play better.

4 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 12, 2012 5:30 pm

Last night may have been the worst of the year. Not worst in that we played sloppy, not worst in blowing a big lead.... but worst in HOW DO YOU LOSE TO SUCH A SHITTY TEAM THAT WAS 2-10 in their last 12 games.

Really... I'm a die-hard fan, but I almost don't want to watch tonight.

And how bad to we have to be before Jeter has a meeting and starts ripping new assholes?

5 The Hawk   ~  Sep 12, 2012 5:36 pm

I just realized Cano only has 75 rbi. That is unimpressive.

6 seamus   ~  Sep 12, 2012 5:41 pm

[4] i'm right there with you.

7 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 5:57 pm

I'm not fucking looking forward to this

8 seamus   ~  Sep 12, 2012 6:19 pm

grandy just sucks right now

9 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 6:19 pm

That was quick

10 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 6:23 pm

Go Yankees. Go Irish!

11 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 6:37 pm

Now no one can hit Aaron Cook.

12 monkeypants   ~  Sep 12, 2012 6:38 pm

[1] So long as we have a DH who can play a little OF, it's all good.

13 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 6:49 pm

Wow, either these are two great pitchers, or two weak line-ups.

I wonder which.

14 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 6:58 pm

This team is both hopeless and boring.

15 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 6:59 pm

Lead off double. Pffftttttt......

16 monkeypants   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:00 pm

[14] Hopelessly boring?

17 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:00 pm

I know this team has a winning record vs. Texas, but IF they meet them in the playoffs, how will they compete the way they look now?

18 rbj   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:00 pm

Not even Jeter. This offense is offensively bad.

19 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:01 pm

[16] Helplessly hoping?

20 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:02 pm

[16] Boringly hopeless.

21 monkeypants   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:03 pm

[19] Helpless, helpless, helpless, helpless.

22 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:05 pm

I mean seriously. Did anyone think Chavez was gonna score?

23 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:06 pm

[21] Did he hear a goodbye, or even a hello?

At least Phelps is dealing.

24 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:10 pm

What a boring home run.

25 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:10 pm

Damn. I missed Curtis' homer. Over the bullpen. Big fly!

26 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:11 pm

This is getting better

27 rbj   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:12 pm

blasts are supposed to come after bloops. Not before.
Like that. Robbie!

28 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:12 pm

Saw that one! Atta boy, Robbie!

29 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:12 pm

This is less boring.

30 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:12 pm

Mood rings are changing all over the NY area.

31 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:12 pm

[27] Exactly.
Curtis was just being selfish. Fortunately this is one of those rare occasions on which the homer did not kill the rally.

32 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:13 pm

[30] And a small part of little RI.

33 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:13 pm

[30] Changing from blue blue to yellow moon?

34 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:14 pm

Heh. Yes, a tiny part of a tiny place.

35 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:15 pm

Woo-hoo. Those are my Yankees.

And, dare I mention it, and elusive, magical RISP hit! Boo-yah!

OK. Calm down, lots of ball to play.

36 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:15 pm

Chavy smoked that one. Kaboom to the wall.

37 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:18 pm

I can almost here Eric calling, "Guys? Hey, guys? I'm here on second base. Again. Now I'm on third base! Can anyone help me out here? Guys?"

38 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:20 pm

Alright Mr. Phelps. You're mission is to now shut these mfs down. Do it!

39 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:27 pm

If pony doesn't score I may need to eat a hat.

40 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:28 pm

I can't stand it.

41 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:28 pm

Good shut down inning, Phelps. Goddamn Fucking Bollocks!

42 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:28 pm

[38] IMPOSSIBLE

43 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:31 pm

Hey, their second time through the order, but they only got one. Phelps is still on task.

[38} MFs? Mother Figures? or MoFos?

44 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:31 pm

Hard to blame Phelps for that. He had Pedroia struck out, but his strike three was called a ball.

Let's Cook up a few more, just to be safe.

45 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:32 pm

Yo! My blimp from the hood!

46 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:36 pm

Yay!

Mattpat, Mays distance, please?

47 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:37 pm

[43] Whatever works for you. : ) Damn! Curtis JUST missed it.

48 rbj   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:37 pm

Heads up baserunning

49 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:38 pm

They may as well replace second base with a thousand foot deep pit. Nobody's going anywhere.

50 rbj   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:41 pm

Jeez how did he make that play?

51 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:45 pm

Wonderful. Leadoff triple from that slob.

52 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:47 pm

Catcher triple?
I missed the Curtis and Robbie taters, damn! More, please.

53 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:52 pm

YEAH

54 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:52 pm

[51] The third base pit is even deeper than the second base pit. Although Eric fell into the second base one twice -- hey, maybe it's Chavez Ravine!

55 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:52 pm

Well shiver me timbers and blow me down.

56 mhoward120   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:52 pm

Mr. Phelps, you have earned your pinstripes.

57 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:54 pm

Salty left stuck on the pretzel.

58 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:57 pm

[54] The ol' Chavez Ravine. : ) Uh, oh. Swisher with the lead off double. Hide the women and children.

59 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 7:59 pm

[58] Yes, it's base-clogging double. Damn. Maybe he can get picked off or something.

60 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:01 pm

[58] The amazing thing is that after Wrigley and Fenway, Dodger Stadium is the third oldest in MLB. Really great park. Too bad 30,000 Latinos with generations of roots in the area were eminent domained/evicted to build it.

61 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:03 pm

Joe Girardi with a 40-man roster. Oy.

62 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:03 pm

Girardi looking for some 6th inning binder magic.
[60] I'd love to see it someday but I really have no reason to go to L.A. Ever.

63 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:05 pm

What a chess match! I bet Maddon is watching on tv.

[62] I highly recommend Santa Monica in the winter.

64 monkeypants   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:06 pm

Out of curiosity, if a pitcher goes to a three ball count and *then* decides to intentionally walk the batter, is the batter credited officially with an IBB?

65 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:06 pm

Is this the same Rich Hill that feuded with Ozzie?

66 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:06 pm

[62] What if you need to get your poodle clipped in Burbank?

67 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:07 pm

[64] I'm pretty sure he is.

68 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:07 pm

[62] I have the same feelings about Comerica.

I have zero desire to ever go to Detroit.

69 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:07 pm

[64] I am fairly certain the answer to that is yes.

70 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:07 pm

Dammit Ichiro. You should have kicked the ball it into right field.

71 monkeypants   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:08 pm

Ichiro seems to be not very good any more at the offensive part of baseball.

72 rbj   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:10 pm

First pitch fly ball. Sigh

73 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:11 pm

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. If this team makes the post season I don't see them scoring unless a homer is hit. Seriously.

74 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:11 pm

[60] Didn't Ry Cooder make a recent album about that?

[71] :(

75 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:14 pm

10.14(b)
The official scorer shall score an intentional base on balls when the pitcher makes no attempt to throw the last pitch to the batter into the strike zone, but purposely throws the ball wide to the catcher outside the catcher’s box.

76 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:17 pm

Nothing says "demands a lefty specialist" like James Loney

77 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:18 pm

[74] Yeah, but time sure flies, that was over 5 years ago.

78 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:19 pm

Robinson was pissed, and doubled up the speedy Siriaco.

79 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:19 pm

[76] Really? Ouch..seems like I just heard him on a podcast talking about it..I'm not a huge Ry fan but do like some of his stuff and I had never heard about the building of D Stadium before. Certainly changed my view of the place, that's for sure.

80 monkeypants   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:21 pm

[75] aha.

81 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:21 pm

[77] Ciriaco.

A lot of people think it's an 'S', for some reason. Maybe because he runs like a desert wind?

82 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:22 pm

MATCHUPS!

83 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:23 pm

TB/O's tied 2-2 after 5-1/2.
I would like TB to win.

84 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:23 pm

No confidence in Phelps to get out Loney?

85 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:24 pm

[84] Loney is lefthanded.

86 rbj   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:25 pm

Swish!

87 monkeypants   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:25 pm

88 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:25 pm

[80] You are correct, thanks. Sometimes I spellz em like I heerz em.

Phelps did well. Hurrah!

89 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:25 pm

Wow. Who needs Tex?

90 monkeypants   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:26 pm

[84] Plus Phelps had thrown, like, 89 pitches...that gets Girardi a little itchy.

91 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:26 pm

[80] Isn't that a Chinese hot sauce that's popular in the States now? Rooster on the label.

92 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:26 pm

Joe's a genius.

93 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:27 pm

[80] He may run like a desert wind but he hits like shit (except against the Yankees) And that is my Major League quote for the nigh.

94 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:27 pm

According to RAB:
Via Erik Boland, Joe Girardi said that Ivan Nova will return to the rotation and start on Saturday.

“I’m ready,” said the left-hander to reporters after today’s workout. “Can I give you 100 pitches? No. But I feel my stuff has been crisp … Just let me go out there and compete.”

The Yankees have already indicated a willingness to bring Pettitte back before he’s fully stretched out, and the guess here is that he will start next Tuesday’s game (they’re off on Monday) with David Phelps piggybacking out of the bullpen.

It can't hurt.

95 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:27 pm

96 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:28 pm

Ooooh, it's "hot-head" time.

97 monkeypants   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:28 pm

[93] It can't hurt.

I commend your optimism.

98 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:29 pm

I went all day thinking the Yankees were 1 game behind the O's. So I I was actually pleasantly surprised to find out they weren't. I wonder if pony's new baby will be taller than him.

124 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 8:44 pm

[118] That was awesome. Thank you. So many funny lines in it. "A pit in front of the third baseman would provide an offensive boost without turning baseball players into massive humanoids, as each well-placed bunt would land in the pit and become a home run. Teams would sign the grittiest, scrappiest bunters they could find. Kids would work on bunting drills instead of swinging for the fences or smoking salvia. “Let’s Get America Scrapping Again.”

I only recognize one voice in the booth tonight. I usually know who is broadcasting. I thought one of the 3 was Francona. But then I realized that none of them sound like a marble mouth. Does anyone know? And they haven't shown them on tv all game. It's nice I suppose.

164 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:05 pm

199 rbj   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:22 pm

I suspect hamstring or calf strain. Time for another drink. Very unhappy.

200 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:23 pm

Jeter has a had a bum wheel for a week or so now. Whether his misstep on first for hustling is related who knows. But I bet he's on the field tomorrow.

[173] Thought of you this morning OK Jazz, went into the Starbucks near my work and they were playing Mingus' "Black Saint and the Sinner Lady", smiled and thought to myself, some poor bastard put this on and had no idea what they were getting into at 6:30 in morning ...

Chad Jennings thinks ankle, not hammy.

Oh, good, another spin of the wheel. I was getting bored!

206 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:25 pm

It's going to take a hamstring injury to keep him out. The way he pulled up didn't seem like it was. I think it's more calf, or knee, or ankle.

Still praying.

And meanwhile, c'mon Sori!

207 monkeypants   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:25 pm

From Riveraveblues:

From the potentially very bad news department: Derek Jeter left tonight’s game with apparent right ankle injury after running out a ground ball in the seventh. The Cap’n has been nursing some kind of injury to the joint for about a week now, but hitting the bag hard sent him limping down the right field down. Like I said, this has the potential to be very bad. Stay tuned for updates.

208 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:25 pm

Girardi is so bad and makes so many pointless MOVEZ that even when he makes a decent one I scream.

209 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:27 pm

From Lohud:
UPDATE, 10:17 p.m.: Jeter’s been playing with a bad ankle, and now he’s out of the game after apparently hurting it further while trying to beat out a double play in the eighth.

218 rbj   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:32 pm

Ankle injuries can be solved with a brace. Limited mobility but able to hit. Fielding takes a hit.

219 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:32 pm

Dude got jobbed. I enjoyed the tantrum, though. Love an f-bomb laced tirade with the potential of clubbing someone with a bat.

220 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:35 pm

[218] It was definitely in the strike zone. But Mattpat [212] is right. The strike zone has been small on that side of the plate and the bottom of the zone, both, for most of the night.

221 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:35 pm

228 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:39 pm

RIYank, with all the turmoil in Boston.. has the team packed it in or have they been playing hard, even during the losing streak? NO chance BV comes back but..they didn't totally give up, did they?

229 RIYank   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:42 pm

[227] Looked like they gave up, honestly. A lot of them. Little Pony is still giving it everything he's got, but I dunno, maybe not Ellsbury.

Thing is, quite a few of these guys are playing for a job next year, either journeymen or prospects. So they're still playing hard, but overall the team just looks like they suck. I guess I shouldn't pass moral judgments.

230 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 12, 2012 9:42 pm

That Oriole 3rd baseman pulled the okey doke on the runner rounding third. Great play. Chavez had a chance to try that a few weeks ago but didn't. The Yankees lost b/c of it.
Fucking o's. Still don't buy their nonsense.

[239] The O's young kid 3b charged a slow grounder with a Ray on second. He charged it and faked the throw to first. The SS covered third and Muchado wheeled and nabbed the Ray who rounded 3rd too far. Great play. I use okey doke as meaning a trick. Since high school anyway. : )
And phew. Yankees Win. Untuck.
