Double Down (Come Back Tomorrow)

Tonight gives the return of Andy Pettitte. It also brings a rain storm that’s supposed to be something fierce. They might not get this game in which would mean a double header tomorrow I suppose.

If they play tonight, we’ll be root-root-rootin’ for the home team.

Never mind twister: Let’s Go Yank-ees!

UPDATE: It’s been cancelled. They’ll play two tomorrow. First game at 1:05.

Damn me to sports fan hell for saying this, but I expect a sweep.

It's pretty bad out right now; I don't look forward to when they postpone the game tonight. If the game does happen but is delayed, I don't portend good things happening as a result :'

2) which team?

4 thelarmis   ~  Sep 18, 2012 2:58 pm

[1] me too.

If n you expect the Yanks to sweep I don't think that is a jinx because they SHOULD sweep even if they don't. We should expect nothing less from them right now.

Rats. Now I don't get to see Andy's return.

7 Jon DeRosa   ~  Sep 18, 2012 4:11 pm

Definitely makes it tougher to sweep when the bullpen gets stretched like this.

8 Chyll Will   ~  Sep 18, 2012 4:31 pm

[3] Double headers are a good sign, the Yanks usually do well with those (I think?)

Well, it's a good night for a rainout, because tonight, on tv, is:
HOLY LAND BASEBALL!
Featuring Dan Duquette, Kevin Youkilis, Art Shamsky, Ron Blomberg and Ken Holtzman.

Shalom.

So what did Escobar have on his eye-black? "Pato" perhaps? It's been awhile since I heard Spanish slang.

And why would he do such a thing? Wouldn't he be afraid the other guys would think he was talking about himself (not that there's anything wrong with it)? There must be something more to the story.

12 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2012 7:54 pm

[11] It was in Spanish, and basically said "you are (a gay slur)." The word was pixelled out and and I don't speak Spanish any way so don't know what it actually was.

Miguel Cabrera is only 3 home runs off of a triple crown season. Would be cool to see one of those.

[11] It was bad, incredibly stupid thing to do in this age. Especially as so many people can understand Spanish within the game now.

Makes me cringe to think how many homophobic slurs I used when a kid..that was the era and Brooklyn I guess, but still..

[15] thelarmis! I interviewed (VERY briefly) Christian McBride and Jeff Tain Watts on Monday night between their sets at the Blue Note Tokyo! Nice guys, and the gig with Makoto Ozone on piano was top class.

Hope you and your group make it out here too, the Dokken rock bar awaits your visit!

17 thelarmis   ~  Sep 18, 2012 8:43 pm

[16] holy crap, that's *amazing*!!! very happy for you, man : )

apparently, blue note japan has been reissuing some of the old liberty titles that had only been on vinyl. i'm psyched!

picked up a donald byrd, lou donaldson & stanley turrentine. next week, i plan to add other titles by those same 3 artists, plus a harold land disc and maybe a couple of others...

18 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 18, 2012 8:46 pm

[17] Harold Land reissues, nice. He's sadly under-rated.
Man, Tain Watts closed out their set the other day with some CRAZY shit on the drums, incredible to watch live. I was really lucky to get a free pass, the tickets were $100 otherwise!

19 thelarmis   ~  Sep 18, 2012 8:47 pm

of course, ciriaco got to farnsy.

5-3

20 thelarmis   ~  Sep 18, 2012 8:49 pm

[18] Tain is beyond unbelievable. that guy is simply astounding.

Miguel Cabrera now 2HR behind in the quest for a triple crown.

23 thelarmis   ~  Sep 18, 2012 8:58 pm

[12] make that 2 off the mark. he's slugged 2 homers tonight and has 40 on the year. just moved ahead of hamilton for sole lead in ribbies...

hamilton and trout play each other tonight - cabrera's competition in the triple crown categories.

24 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2012 9:04 pm

[23] It's going to be a fun side story. Historic, last one was 1967, right before I turned 3. Good night all.

25 thelarmis   ~  Sep 18, 2012 10:27 pm

interesting:

miguel cabrera could win the triple crown. would mike trout still be mvp? neither team might make the playoffs and trout is a shoo-in for rookie of the year.

like rbj said - this is gonna be a fun side story!

26 thelarmis   ~  Sep 18, 2012 11:34 pm
