3 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 29, 2012 12:17 pm

That was NOT a leg sweeping ... but it could have been worse.

4 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 29, 2012 12:17 pm

C'mon CORNFLAKE!!!

5 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 29, 2012 12:21 pm

OldPoll Time:
(and I expect participation!)

Who is the AL MVP?
Trout: .321 / .393 / .555 / .948 WAR: 10.5 - Stellar Defense, 47 SB
Miggy: .327 / .392 / .602 / .994 WAR: 6.6 - Poor Defense, 4 SB

To me, it's not that close. It's Trout.

9 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 29, 2012 12:26 pm

Trout.

And it's not that close ...

10 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 29, 2012 12:29 pm

Well, let's hope that isn't a sign of things to come.

MEH!!!

11 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 29, 2012 12:42 pm

Great job, SHITBIRDS!!!

12 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2012 12:58 pm

Bases loaded, no outs. I predict Yankees get only 1 run.

13 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:04 pm

If we're lucky.

14 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:08 pm

STOP TRYING TO BUNT!!!!!!

16 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:37 pm

I predict another inning ending double play.

Yup.

17 mhoward120   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:38 pm

Wow - an insightful remark from Michael Kaye, after all these years. Of course, the ph move didn't work, but what else would you expect?

18 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:41 pm

I don't like where this game is heading.
Andy's CB doesn't look that sharp. A I wrong?

19 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:46 pm

Big spot here. C'mon Andy!

20 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:47 pm

Mother fucker

21 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:47 pm

That ball was foul.

22 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:48 pm

Reply please.

23 mhoward120   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:48 pm

This team is better off without Scum-wad

24 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:51 pm

[23] I might agree with you, but not how you say it...

Hey! Arod made a nice play there.

25 mhoward120   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:58 pm

The way this game is going, if there's a silver lining it's that Andy will pitch the wild-card playoff game (or the O's-Yanks playoff).

26 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 29, 2012 1:59 pm

Ugh. Losing the DH?

27 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:01 pm

Oh, FUCK YOU CANO.

28 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:01 pm

This team is just flat.

29 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:03 pm

Andy must get through this, c'mon.

30 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:06 pm

That could be a season saving catch by Granderson.

31 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:11 pm

And now untied.

32 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:12 pm

Lucky to be one. OK fellas, yous got it in yous to take this game, this division?

33 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:18 pm

Papa said son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin' if you don't START drivin' that hot rod Lincoln.

34 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:18 pm

That pitch to Arod was low, but he he can't take that.

35 mhoward120   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:20 pm

Considering that the alternative was a DP, way to go Alex!

36 Bruce Markusen   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:27 pm

Just an inexcusably lousy game so far. Two runs against Romero, one of the worst pitchers in the league this year. Cano fails to cover first base on time on a bunt play. Ichiro gets picked off.

And this is a team that wants to win the division?

37 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:33 pm

Good job Joba

38 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:35 pm

Two innings to go...can this team find a way?

39 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:39 pm

Raul hasn't been great of late, but the guy plays hard.

40 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:41 pm

Bullshit, Blue.

41 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:41 pm

Anybody count our RISP fail? Not only RISP fail, but STRIKE OUTS when a ground ball or a fly ball would have furthered our cause.

42 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:41 pm

Gardner was safe, that sux.

43 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:42 pm

Fuck. Gritner was safe.

44 mhoward120   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:42 pm

Game over

45 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:43 pm

Tonight in Baltimore:
Boston: Doubront (11-9, 4.91 ERA)
Baltimore: Johnson (4-0, 1.62 ERA)

We are looking at being tied for the Division.
ROOT FOR TB!

46 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:44 pm

[23] Who is Scum-wad?
(And thats Mr. Scum-wad to you!)

47 jjmerlock   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:47 pm

Fuck Girardi. I'm seeing the light. For a smart guy, he's retarded.

This is on him.

The idea that it would be inconceivable that Granderson and Jones, being placed back to back in the order, would come up twice in the situation that they faced in those two bases loaded innings - kind of totally fucking foreseeable.

Bad enough that he played Jones, who should have been cut a month ago.

But putting two guys with that much miss in their swings back to back after a series of guys who get on base a lot - criminal.

I would like to assume that is the last we will see of Jones as a Yankee, but the cost is fatal. An absolutely ridiculous loss.

48 jjmerlock   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:51 pm

Apparently my swearing has finally got one of my comments caught up in moderation. The gist was that batting Granderson and Jones back to back was inexcusable, their lack of production in two successive bases loaded situations was utterly predictable, and I finally accept that Girardi's abilities as a manager are laughable.

He was such a smart guy coming up. The above is so patently stupid that it is hard to imagine how it could have been allowed to happen. Ridiculous.

49 jjmerlock   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:55 pm

[41] see [47].

Girardi ate a whole plate of stupid before filling out that lineup card. Fatal Joe, fatal.

50 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2012 2:59 pm

Jeebus, blue.

51 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:02 pm

This team sucks

52 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:02 pm

You just knew that Ichiro would not be the last out in this game.

53 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:03 pm

Figures.

54 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:03 pm

I've got four little words:

Let's go Red Sox.

55 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:03 pm

This team really sucks

56 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:04 pm

I don't get it.
Power is usually the last thing to go as players age.
ARod is NOT that old (see Thome).
What happened to his power?

57 jjmerlock   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:06 pm

I said it before - how do you have Granderson and Jones back to back in a lineup where it is totally predictable that you may need them to push runs across after a stretch of the lineup where guys get on against a pitcher with shaky control? How do you make that decision? They failed, but Girardi's failure in making out that lineup card is pathetic. Just terrible.

58 Bruce Markusen   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:08 pm

Absolutely brutal loss. To a bad, injury-wracked team that was starting one of the AL's worst pitchers.

And I agree that Girardi again fell short. Why, oh why, was Andruw Jones starting again? Why was Russell Martin not starting when he has been swinging the bat well of late? Oh, I forgot that he needed a day of REST.

And this is not to give the players any leniency. That they could score two runs in the first, and not score again, against that pitching staff, is simply not acceptable.

59 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:09 pm

[56] How many more years are we going to have to put up with this?

60 mhoward120   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:09 pm

Even as of a month ago, is there anyone who expects that the Yanks would have made a deep playoff run? I think not.

61 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:22 pm

It's dangerous to comment based just on Gamecast, but I've been out. WTF is Alex doing in the 9th, first-pitch swinging with Ichiro on 1B? Gotta let him try to steal there so a bingle ties the game. Sounds like more all-or-nothing horseshit from a player who is fast becoming nothing but all horseshit.

62 jjmerlock   ~  Sep 29, 2012 3:38 pm

[58] And Bruce - Jones placed immediately behind Granderson in the lineup.

Yes, Joe, lefty, righty.

Also, two masters of the strikeout/ineffective out placed back to back.

They should have scored at least four runs in the first four innings, and probably six.
