The Cardinals are finally showing signs of life...

2 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 5:44 pm

Anyone know if the game will start on time or delayed/postponed due to weather?

3 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 6:15 pm

[3] They showed bp on the field about an hour ago. Everything looked good to go. The tarp rolled up nicely on the side where it belongs.

4 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 8, 2012 6:37 pm

If the animated weather map is to believed, it looks like a pocket of rain is skirting the edge of Baltimore, and is moving northeast, and clears the area by 9:30. However, if it's not raining there now, Baltimore may have just missed the system. So I would say at worst, there could be an hour or so of rain, but they will definitely get the game in.

5 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 6:51 pm

Shit. Rain again. Delay again. Friggin' Baltimore!

6 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 8, 2012 6:55 pm

Soriano: 2.6 WAR, 1.17 WHIP, 2.26 ERA.
This was a very good year, but not crazy good.
There is talk he will opt of of his last year with us.
Onviously, knowing if Mo is coming back is a big part of the equation, but I wouldn't mind puting that $14m elsewhere, and I would certainly NOT give hin any extension.

Opinions?

7 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 8, 2012 6:57 pm

[5] Them weather radar map thingies are usually pretty good. It shows rain for the next 1.5-2 hrs.... and did show it clear until 7:30 ish.

8 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:02 pm

[6] I agree, I would be happy to save the money. We have D-Rob, and Mark Montgomery is supposed to be very promising.

Looks like the Cards have Game 2 wrapped up now.

9 rbj   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:03 pm

Fargin rain delay. [7] Then I may miss the game. Crap, missing that gunslinger face in the postseason.

10 rbj   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:12 pm

From LoHud, a couple of tweets are saying 8:45 pm start.

11 Capital Yank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:25 pm

I'm just passing through Baltimore on the train right now but don't see any rain out of the window. The forecast, however, calls for more rain later...if the game doesn't start until closer to 9, this could turn into a very late night.

12 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:41 pm

Andy Pettitte is so old that this isn't his first playoff start in Camden Yards

13 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:43 pm

Anyone got an update on the start time?

14 rbj   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:47 pm

[13] any moment.

15 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:48 pm

Jeter is stepping into the box, cult.

16 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:49 pm

Hah!
Nice try, kid.

17 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:49 pm

Captain!

18 rbj   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:49 pm

Good start Cap'n.

19 monkeypants   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:49 pm

[15] And now he's standing at 1B.

20 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:50 pm

[14][15] Thanks!!!

Awwwww, a "Yankees Suck" chant already.

Stay classy, Bawlimor!

21 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:51 pm

C'mon Ichi.

22 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:51 pm

So far so good.

23 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:51 pm

Alright, calling a 3 run Jimmy Jack for ICR.

Right here, right now!

24 rbj   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:52 pm

Thanks Reynolds.

25 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:55 pm

Oh, fer FUCK'S sake.

Dammit.

26 rbj   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:55 pm

Jeez

27 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:55 pm

Ugh

28 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:55 pm

WTF! Leave it to Alex.

29 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:56 pm

Man, he crushed it. Bad, bad luck.

30 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:56 pm

That doesn't really seem fair.

31 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:57 pm

Holy Christ on a Cracker Jack. That was bananas!

32 rbj   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:57 pm

Only Ichiro

33 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:57 pm

That was pretty damned amazing.

34 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:57 pm

ICHI THE THRILLER!!!

DANCING LIKE FRED ASTAIRE!!!

35 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:58 pm

Baseball is a silly game.

36 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:58 pm

Those will start falling in.

[29] Appreciate the detailed commentary, as I'm currently watching "online" because TV#2 is temporarily unavailable and the wife is watching "Dancing With the Stars". (I am, too, though more of my attention is on the game.)

37 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:58 pm

Holy CRAP

38 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:59 pm

WOWIE ZOWIE!!!

39 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:59 pm

All that tag the Yankees play in practice paid off!

40 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:59 pm

[36] That was in reference to A-Rod, BTW.

What did Ichiro do, avoid a tag at the plate?

41 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 7:59 pm

Ichiro hasn't broken out his break dancing skill since 1982.

42 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:01 pm

And yet another terrible send by Robbie Thompson by the way.

43 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:01 pm

[36] Well, the scoring play is gonna be hard to describe...

44 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:02 pm

[40] Short answer yes, long answer ... well, the long answer would take too long, watch the replay when you have a chance!

=)

45 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:02 pm

[36] Why watch Dancing with the Stars, you can watch Dancing with the Catcher for better family entertainment.

46 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:03 pm

[40] I'll say. He ran around the catcher, who was blocking the plate, and behind the batters and catchers boxes, and then lunged back to the plate from the other side, diving over the catcher's outstretched mitt.

47 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:05 pm

Wild first inning. Go Go Ichiro!

Andy P won't lose to these B'awlmore Bums.

48 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:05 pm

Thanks the magic of TiVo (and my lovely wife), we've paused DWTS and switched over to the game so I can re-wind and watch the replay. holy cripes! You guys weren't kidding about the indescribable part! How did Ichiro pull that off?!?

49 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:06 pm

[40] Twice. With Wieters standing there waiting for him.

50 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:07 pm

1,2,3. num-num-num...

51 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:08 pm

[42] When ICHIRO is out by ten feet, its always a bad send. Ichiro bailed him out

52 garydsimms   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:08 pm

Cal Ripkin praises Andy. Same age?

53 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:08 pm

Okay, now as long as this isn't one of those games where we kill the pitcher in the first but score only one run, and then go silent for the next eight innings...

54 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:08 pm

10 pitches, 3 Orioles up, 3 Orioles down. Another postseason inning for dandy Andy.

55 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:09 pm

Nice start to the start, Andy!

56 rbj   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:09 pm

[48] Secret ninja skills.

57 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:10 pm

[53] Pettitte is no stranger to 1-0 postseason games, though.

58 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:10 pm

i'm in the kitchen with radio only, while i eat. back to the tv in the den in a bit. i'm dvr'ing in the next room!

59 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:12 pm

[51] Considering how the ball deadened (like a killer in handball) off the wall, i thought Ichiro would have easily made it from first. Surprising he was 10 feet from home when the ball got near the plate.

But, you can never deny the powers of a Ninja.

60 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:13 pm

Gameday says that Angel Hernandez's strike zone is a little tight tonight.

61 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:14 pm

Smoltz will never let pass a chance at complaining if the O's pitcher gets squeezed.

62 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:14 pm

[60] Yeah, that could be. Although maybe a little broad inside to lefties?

63 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:15 pm

[62] Yes. But should anyone be surprised?

64 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:17 pm

[63] Hernandez is very umportant (a great word coined serendipitously by OYF).

65 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:19 pm

Would have been nice if Kaat was in the booth for this series instead.

66 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:20 pm

[64] i saw that and cracked up. missed you last night. and i agree about offensive lineman; i thought the same thing. it's also the power of his first name! ; )

67 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:21 pm

[64] OK now I can't figure a pattern. The 5th pitch to Martin was clearly in the zone, by Gameday, yet called a ball (guess Hernandez thought it was low enough). 1st pitch to Jones was in the same place as the first pitch to Wieters, just a little higher to Jones, yet for Jones it was a ball, for Wieters a strike. Then the 1st pitch to Reynolds was a little lower than to Wieters, and a ball.

68 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:21 pm

Wow, the Golden God is in the Temple!

69 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:22 pm

That's it, Andy. Beau-ti-ful!

70 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:22 pm

I was eating dinner when I say "Dancing with Ichiro". I mean, what an amazingly bizarre play. Fantastic reaction by Ichiro, especially evading the 2nd tag attempt. I imagine that play is going to be replayed a LOT!

71 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:22 pm

andy's a golden god!!!

btw, where's weeping been? i sure hope he's alright!

72 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:22 pm

Dandy, Andy!

73 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:22 pm

[68] only because the sukkot was taken down.

74 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:23 pm

[67] it's angel hernandez.

'nuff said.

75 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:24 pm

[68] Hey, I can't remember how Andy P got the "Golden God" nickname..was that from our long lost friend Weeping?

76 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:24 pm

This might not be PC, but doesn't Buck Showalter seem like he has a little Asperger's Disorder, at least in his public persona?

77 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:25 pm

[75] Yes, from Weeping. Whom we haven't had here since, I dunno, May?

78 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:25 pm

This game seem familiar so far? A bit of a carbon copy of last night

79 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:25 pm

[76] Going back to his first season with the Yanks - 20 years ago!!! - I always thought Buck was quite the showman and actor. Able to turn it on and off like a switch.

80 monkeypants   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:26 pm

[75] i was just thinking about ol' W for B. I wonder what happened to him.

81 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:26 pm

Angel's going to have everyone shaking their head tonight.

82 monkeypants   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:27 pm

The yankees complete transformation of the DH position is nearly complete. The final step involves having a pitcher bat in the 9th spot as the DH.

83 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:27 pm

angel hernandez should never be allowed on a major league field, unless he was cultivating the infield dirt in between innings. certainly never as a home plate umpire in the postseason.

84 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:28 pm

[77] And I thought I'd been long gone.

A quick Google search suggests that it was July 14th was his last comment.

85 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:29 pm

Good job, Speedy. Now steal three bases.

86 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:29 pm

[83] I agree, but he must excel at some type of MLB umpire metric to be working the PS.

87 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:29 pm

A 2 out rally killer would be nice.

88 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:29 pm

[84] Wow, okay. Feels like longer.

89 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:30 pm

Ichiro!

[82] And it will be a pitcher who almost never pitches.

90 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:30 pm

[86] Umportance.

91 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:30 pm

Two hard hit balls from A-Rod today

92 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:31 pm

Alex ought to be 2 for 2. That's a good sign.

93 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:31 pm

OK A-Rod, let's go . . .

94 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:31 pm

[84] Hope all is well with our opera loving friend.
A-Rod has smoked two balls tonight, niiiiiice....

95 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:32 pm

[86] pissing off both teams and causing arguments that result in ejections and, ultimately, fans cheering?

96 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:32 pm

[91] Baby steps, plus he worked a walk yesterday. We should be so proud of him.

97 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:33 pm

[95] Always bad when an umpire is infamous for his crappy umpiring.

98 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:34 pm

Rats!

99 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:34 pm

And right down the middle, too. Sigh.

103 garydsimms   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:40 pm

Happy 56th anniversary to Don Larson. I remember watching it with my mom, the greatest Yankee fan (rip)...so sndy gives up a hit.

104 monkeypants   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:40 pm

The announcers imply irony that the number nine hitter would get the first hit. But sn't that where teams now place their best hitters, like their DH?

105 monkeypants   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:41 pm

Ok, that was a little harder struck.

106 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:42 pm

[114] Wait, why was it magic?
Or was that irony?

125 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:47 pm

He hits the cut off man they've got the final out without the run scoring.

126 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:47 pm

[125] D'oh.

Maybe Swish got a little too used to playing first base during Tex's absence.

127 monkeypants   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:47 pm

[120] Maybe, but he damn near got the runner before the second run scored. I guess the play would have been just as close if he hit the cutoff man, but maybe not.

Slack, Jeter, very slack.

But the captain is bailed out by poor base running.

136 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:50 pm

"In play, no out" is much better than "In play, run(s)", so I'll take it. Cripes though Andy, this is not good.

137 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:51 pm

Welp, all considering, it could have been worse.

138 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:51 pm

OK, an out is good.

140 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:51 pm

I missed that last play, was Jeter cookin' pasta but still got the out?

141 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:51 pm

Huge mistake by Hardy there. You just can't do that in a playoff game.

142 randym77   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:52 pm

Jeez. That coulda been a lot worse.

143 garydsimms   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:52 pm

How does hardy not go?

144 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:52 pm

[132] Wow is right. I turned the channel to the show my wife needs to see as soon as Jeter missed it. Your comment cheered me up.

145 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:52 pm

The Yankees were both unlucky and lucky in the same inning. Maybe this will wake up the bats, and not be lulled by Andy's cruising.

146 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:52 pm

[136] Grounder in the hole under Jeter's glove, which (i) a good SS would have had, and (ii) should easily have scored the run once it got into the outfield.

147 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:52 pm

RI - some cardinals reliever named Trevor Rosenthal pitched today. does he know it was schmini atzeret/simcha torah or is the surname a ruse?

148 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:53 pm

140) Ball jut under Jeter's glove and then Hardy might have looked at Jeter for a moment and thought he had the ball. Regardless, Hardy didn't look at his third base coach who was windmilling him to score. He stopped at third and by the time he saw his coach it was too late to start up again. Jeter had a smirk.

149 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:54 pm

hardy does wear #2 b/c he idolizes jeter. maybe he felt bad that the old man couldn't make a routine play and wanted to bail him out.

also, balltumor is good at 1-run games...

150 randym77   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:54 pm

[143] He couldn't see the play. He thought Jeter got it. He was looking back and didn't see the third base coach frantically telling him to keep going.

151 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:54 pm

154 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:55 pm

155 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:56 pm

Ha. Good play by Alex. Rope by Teix!

156 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:56 pm

157 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:56 pm

[147] I dunno -- but 'Rosenthal' is not one of those names the goyim sometimes have just for fun, is it?

That was a weird game -- PH for both starters very early.

[154][155] HAH!

=)

159 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:57 pm

Somebody needs to square up one of Chen's bullshit fastballs.

160 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:57 pm

a-rod definitely deked him!

161 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:58 pm

[158] ;) That's our A-Rod.

[159] How about Curtis who can hit lefties now Granderson? Where has he been, anyway?

162 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:58 pm

I'm gonna have to mute this sucker. Smoltz even worse than Ripken.

163 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:59 pm

good.

more non-outs, please!

164 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:59 pm

Here we go!

165 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 8:59 pm

[162] i had last inning on moot. smoltz is insufferable. i let that be known, every other comment last nite.

where were you, btw?

166 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:00 pm

[162] Gameday has its limitations, but lack of crappy TBS announcers is not one of them.

167 JeremyM   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:00 pm

Am I the only one that think Ripken is pretty good and seems to not be rooting for the O's?

OK come on Curtis.

168 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:00 pm

Keep your goddman head in there Curtis.

169 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:00 pm

[157] yeah, i'm guessing it's wrong half...

170 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:01 pm

Of course it's Teix on 2nd. Shite!

171 JeremyM   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:01 pm

Whew, I thought Tex was going to try to chug around there.

Nice job Curtis.

172 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:01 pm

[161] There he is!

173 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:01 pm

PLEASE NO DP!!! PLEASE!!!

176 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:02 pm

c'mon kid!!!

179 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:02 pm

OK, let's see if the lefty-hitting DH/backup middle infielder can have a non-out event here.

[157] Shhh, we're sneaky like that. 9th grade Latin class, we had a girl with last name of Goldsmith (or Goldman, forget 30+ years ago) who was Goyim. Even the teacher was surprised.

181 JeremyM   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:03 pm

182 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:03 pm

191 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:05 pm

[182] [183] 3rd pitch? Gameday agrees with you both.

Great job by the lefty hitting DH /sarcasm

OK Cap'n, let's get the Score Truck in here already!

192 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:05 pm

[180] 'Goldsmith' is one of those cant-tell names, though. 'Rosenthal' is definitely not!

199 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:06 pm

Damn, Jetes.

Yikes, that was bad. Needed at least one run out of that.

200 JeremyM   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:07 pm

I hate to say it but we all knew Jeter wasn't going to come through there. Guy is great, but his "clutchiness" is a myth.

201 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:07 pm

Bases loaded, one out, and no runs. Holy cripes Girardi, as bad as Andruw Jones was in the last 3 months, what ever made you think that EDUARDO NUNEZ was somehow a better option as the lefty DH?!?!?!

202 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:09 pm

I don't mind that Nunez is at DH. He's just spit the bit 2 fucking times. Dammit.

203 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:09 pm

That was a huge bummer.

204 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:09 pm

[194] You know, I've said this before, and I know it goes against everything Joe Girardi believes in, but a left handed pitcher doesn't mean you *must* put at least one bad right handed hitter in the lineup.

205 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:10 pm

[194] I'll take the borderline Hall of Famer over Nune5 every day of the week and twice on Sundays. I don't care how dead he looked the last 3 months. What's more likely, that the last 3 months - of 100 or so PAs, might I add - were a fluke for Jones, or that Nune5 can hit like an average major leaguer?

Sorry if I'm sounding combative, I'm just really unhappy about that inning.

206 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:10 pm

Ugh. What is going on?

207 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:10 pm

214 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:13 pm

ok, great!

NOW, a double play.

215 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:13 pm

4 inches inside to righty is strike. 1 inch inside to a lefty is ball.

216 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:13 pm

Not a good night so far for DJ.

217 rbj   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:14 pm

[192] If you're in rural NY (which western Orange county was in the 1970s) it had only one context.

Ok, good night all. Game 2 of the divisional series vs. Work. Gotta save the "sick day" for a more important day.

218 RIYank   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:15 pm

Not to be disagreeable, but Nuñez is actually a good hitter against lefties. (Better than Andruw.)

Oh, thank god. Whew! Just foul.

219 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:15 pm

[205] I dunno, I sorta think the giant fork sticking out of Andruuw's back might be some sort of clue ...

Jones couldn't hit water if you shoved him out of a boat in the middle of the ocean with an anchor tied to his ankle.

But that's just me.

220 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:16 pm

Nice play, Alex.

221 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:16 pm

222 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:16 pm

Good pick, Alex. That would have been a disaster.

223 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:18 pm

[219] And, to finish my thoughts on the subject, if Joey Joe Joe *had* started Jones at DH AND he'd had the 2 at bats Nune5 had, the howls of outrage

227 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:19 pm

228 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:19 pm

[223] Well, sure. But they'd be towards Jones..don't think anyone here would be calling for Nunez though..anyhoo, Yanks are winning this game easily. No doubts!

229 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:21 pm

[226] Think asked you before but I imagine you in Robert De Niro's house in "Heat", sitting on the bare floor with a laptop and glass of wine...doesn't everyone in California live like that? :)

230 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 8, 2012 9:21 pm

[218] [219] I understand, but I respectfully disagree.

[223] [226] That I agree with, but they might not have been warranted. In any case, I have no desire to discuss Nune5 anymore, unless he drives in the game-winning run. ;) Then I will gladly retract my previous comments!

326 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:04 pm

Flick one over the 3rd baseman's head.

327 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:05 pm

i really wish jete had been running on the pitch...

328 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:05 pm

Well, meh.

329 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:05 pm

C'mon, Alex. You can do it...what "it" is I don't know. How about not making an out. That's a start!

330 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:06 pm

I think its cute that any of you think Andruw would have made contact

331 garydsimms   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:06 pm

A hit would be nice

332 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:07 pm

[330] I don't think that sentence means what you think it does ...

333 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:08 pm

O'Day, the rematch. Alex had one good pitch to hit last night from O'Day. It was the first one. He put a good swing on it but fouled it back.

334 bags   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:08 pm

How the hell does Ichiro get down the line so fast? I've been reading about it for years but it is sort of crazy...

335 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:08 pm

C'mon ICR ... be the YAY-ROD you were meant to be!

336 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:08 pm

Oh, Christ, there's not much hope in this matchup.

I just hope no one gets hurt

337 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:08 pm

c'mon A-rod. show your talent.

338 garydsimms   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:08 pm

Time for a flashback

339 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:08 pm

pulled the string. damn.

340 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:09 pm

The 0-1 pitch was sort of like that cookie last night.

341 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:09 pm

alex's lips aren't very purple.

ichiro got a great jump there...

342 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:09 pm

Dammit. He had that stolen.

343 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:09 pm

Ah, shit. Down 1-2. Hang in there, bro!

344 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:10 pm

Maybe he'll get hit by a pitch.

345 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:10 pm

that 2-2 pitch, too close to take. Had to hack at it.

346 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:11 pm

not even close or worth an appeal.

347 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:11 pm

OK, Alex, way to hold up. Now DRIVE one.

348 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:11 pm

C'mon, ALEX!

349 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:12 pm

That was pretty damn predictable.

350 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:12 pm

a-rod's not even a singles hitter anymore...

351 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:12 pm

Fucking hopeless. High frisbee garbage.

352 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:13 pm

Dammit.

353 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:13 pm

Meh.

354 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:13 pm

That sucked.

355 JeremyM   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:14 pm

Looked like a cookie right down the middle and he wasn't even close....

356 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:14 pm

[321] Your typo was predictive.

357 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:16 pm

You notice Arod ran to the clubhouse after that. Petulant too.

358 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:16 pm

[334] He's already running while he's swinging.

359 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:16 pm

C'mon Cornflake ... go big or go home.

360 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:16 pm

Buck Showalter brought in a pitcher to issue an intentional walk?

361 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:17 pm

nice easy basehit, buddy!

362 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:17 pm

Little bingo!

363 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:18 pm

[360] yeah, never a good idea.

364 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:18 pm

[357] He's probably checking the video tape. Apparently, he really never stops thinking about and working on hitting.

365 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:18 pm

we need a Swish Knocker!

366 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:19 pm

If it's a strike. Hit it hard.

367 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:19 pm

bollocks.

368 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:19 pm

Glad Nick tried to hit a homer there. A single wouldn't have done it.

369 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:19 pm

FUCKING FAIL!

370 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:19 pm

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

STABBY FUCKING DOGSHIT!!!!!

371 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:22 pm

That's all for me today (except for by iPhone). I hope they have a rally left in the tank.

Stay thirsty, my friends.

372 garydsimms   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:23 pm

Anybody else surprised andy is still in?

373 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:23 pm

A little surprised Andy still out there.

374 garydsimms   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:29 pm

Holy crap. Andy 123

375 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:30 pm

Final note, just so you guys know what Jazz and I are dealing with in Japan. In the middle of our 7th inning rally, NHK cuts off the game for news. It will not come back on.

With out MLB.com we'd be clueless.

376 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:30 pm

Atta baby, Teix!

377 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:30 pm

great hit, but he can't run for shit.

378 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:31 pm

Dear Team,

No double plays.

379 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:33 pm

Smoltz you worthless fucking Shill!

380 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:34 pm

Jeez, think he'll whiff?

381 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:34 pm

382 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:35 pm

[379] or "schill"...(ing)

see john, baseball IS predictable.

383 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:35 pm

Wow, Curtis struck out. That's as shocking as Alex striking out.

384 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:35 pm

Oh ... Curtis ...

385 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:35 pm

Jesus fucking CHRIST Nunie, calm the fuck down.

386 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:35 pm

0-2, now HE'S cooked...

387 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:36 pm

way to lay off. C'mon, make a mistake with the fastball...

388 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:37 pm

2-2. I say he goes fastball up high or breaking ball low...

389 thelarmis   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:37 pm

what a fucking waste.

390 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:37 pm

Damn shame. Andy pitched a really strong game, too.

391 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:37 pm

2 hits in a row is far too much to ask for.

392 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:37 pm

Load.

Of.

Bollocks.

393 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:37 pm

That was pathetic.

394 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:41 pm

I think it was a mistake leaving Andy in.

395 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:42 pm

Well, it might not quite have been *golden* but that's all we could ask from Andy tonight.

Well done, sir ...

396 garydsimms   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:43 pm

Thanks andy for giving us a chance

397 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:44 pm

[394] Needed to wait for the right hander to come up.

398 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 8, 2012 10:48 pm

424 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2012 11:00 pm

There are no words.

425 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 8, 2012 11:00 pm

I love rooting for Alex. Breaks my heart when he does poorly. This bites. Now, I'll have to hear how bad he sucks from all the Yankee fans at work tomorrow. And I can't argue with them, either.

426 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 11:00 pm

Well, that was a failure pile in a sadness bowl.

Fuck.

427 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 8, 2012 11:02 pm

See y'all Wednesday.
