"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

This, That, and the Third

Chad Jennings with some Yankee notes. At ESPN/New York, Mark Simon looks at Baltimore’s Miguel Gonzalez.

And over at Deadspin, here’s Tom Scocca on Ichiro’s play at the plate last night.

Tonight gives a pair of Game 3’s: Giants vs. the Reds and later tonight, Tigers vs. the A’s.

Have at it.

Let’s Go Base-ball!

What an awful article at Deadspin.

I actually don't mind some good Yankee-bashing, if it's done well and in the right spirit. (If I couldn't stand it I would have a very hard time reading local sports!) But there's no interesting idea in this one -- it's just "Oh, the Yankees spend so much money and other teams literally can't afford to compete!" And it's written in trite sports-hack style, right from the first bloodless sentence, which ends with "... , this play from Ichiro Suzuki last night." Eyeroll. Gag. (And to top it off, he seems not to realize that the Yankees traded for Ichiro. They didn't buy him. Idiot.)

Please come back, Mike Schur!

Through 5 the Giants have a one in the run column, and nothing else.

That's gone.

[1] Deadspin can be funny but most of the time it's abdly written nonsense. I miss FJM so much too!!

Man, A-Chap on the Reds really has a thunderbolt left arm..how can anyone make contact against that heat?

Wow, pulling A-Chap for Broxton..he only threw 15 pitches..

Yeah, I thought the Reds had the advantage but with Broxton now, hmmm...

[6] Bullpen rouxlette skills are so ridiculously important in the post-season..you can really see the difference between those who do it well (Buck) and those who don't (Ron Washington)..Dusty Baker knows his players better than we do of course, but don't you let Chapman face the dangerous Posey?

And a Rolen error is the difference? Go fuggin' figure that.

[8] Giants had ONE hit in the first 9 innings..and won the game. YCPB, Suzyn!

Now seems Coco Crisp just made an all-timer of a catch..need to get on mlbTV to see the replay.

[9] Oh, must check it out.

BTW, hearing about his earlier gaff was much different than seeing it (later). When I heard the announcers talking about it, they made it sound like he was show-boating or taking the play nonchalantly. But in the replays you can see the dude was charging in to make the catch and just made a bad decision on glove positioning. Then, while falling, he made three desperate, but near brilliant, efforts to re-catch it.

It's not the image of a guy goofing around that I was lead to believe.
