I'm not sure I like seeing the DH any place outside of the nine hole.

2 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 3:22 pm

The broad perception of Rodriguez right now is that he can't hit even an average fastball of 91-92 mph -- unless he guesses right and gets his swing started a little sooner and manages to time the pitch. As one rival scout said, "He's making 91 mph look like 99 mph" with the way he's swinging the bat.

3 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 3:55 pm

It's true. It's like he can only foul off the mistake pitches he used to drive. Hey, so long as he can get some hits, keep shit moving, they'll be okay.

5 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 4:26 pm

[4] That was sweet. I remember the dickheads in the booth mentioning they were surprised Robertson was throwing so many curveballs. There ya' go. I noticed Dave having new flourish at the end of that pitch you linked. Like a pool player trying to get extra masse' on the ball. Good stuff.

6 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 4:52 pm

Hm, why exactly is Eric playing third? Because he's a better fielder (not)? Or some other enigmatic reason?

7 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 5:29 pm

[6] Girardi would say it's to give A-Rod half a day off, but really he's probably doing that as a half-assed response to all the criticism and uproar the media and call-in fans have made over the last 2 days. I dunno.

I do like seeing Chavez batting 9th against this guy, though. He's had some success against him.

8 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 5:32 pm

[6] Well... in his day Chavy was a much better fielder than ARod (is at 3rd base). Even now he might be better, but is probably at least as good.

9 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 5:44 pm

Hm. If true, [8] is a good reason (but I'm skeptical). But [7] those are terrible reasons so I hope neither of them is the actual one.

10 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:18 pm

Giants are spankin' some booty in CinCinNati, Lincecum with 4.1 solid relief. Looks like Game 5 ahoy.

11 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:29 pm

Well, here we go.

12 rbj   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:35 pm

I hope the Yankees score 8 runs tonight. That seems to be the theme today.

13 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:39 pm

[9] Basically it's a push. It gets Chavy some action, and ARod a bit of rest, which probably isn't necessary, but what do I know.

Girardi is 2 games away from Golf. I really don't think he is concerned [7] about the talking heads.

14 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:40 pm

Gosh, first time tuning in to TBS..they're already awful..who is doing play-by-play, his voice is incredibly annoying..

15 mhoward120   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:41 pm

Kuroda cannot have a shitty 1st

16 rbj   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:44 pm

He came off the bag! Out!!

17 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:44 pm

well there ya go -- John Sterling: "The Yankees lose nothing playing Chavez at third".

18 mhoward120   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:45 pm

Thank God for Cap'n HeadsUp

19 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:45 pm

Yay!

More plays, Buck! Put in more plays!

20 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:45 pm

Oksy. Score eight runs now pleas.

21 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:45 pm

There's a break.

22 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:46 pm

[17] See, that's disconcerting, Old Yankee Fan. Do you want to recant [8]?

23 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:47 pm

Nice play, DJ (nudge, nudge).

24 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:48 pm

[22] Then he went on to say that by sitting A-Rod defensively maybe he can rest his mind.

25 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:54 pm

[24] Profound.
John is the most interesting man in the world.

26 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:55 pm

That was feeble.

27 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:55 pm

Ok, get comfortable now, Hiroki. Mow 'em down.

28 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:58 pm

[22] No.... I recan it.

29 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 6:59 pm

[28] Maybe you should just can it.

30 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:02 pm

Nice.

31 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:02 pm

Hiroki looks okie dokie.

32 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:04 pm

Chavez Won the Gold Glove at 3rd Base in 2001.
...
And 2002
And 2003
And 2004
And 2005
And 2006

Aside from thar, he's a lousy fielder.

33 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:06 pm

Gold jacket, green jacket... who gives a shit?

34 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:08 pm

[32] Quiz question: what well-known infielder won Gold Gloves in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010?

Follow-up: is that infielder a great fielder?

35 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:10 pm

Goddammit, Mark.

36 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:12 pm

DJ's throws are becoming a minor adventure. LOL

37 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:14 pm

Whoa.
I didn't know Phil Hughes was pitching tonight. Looks like Kuroda.

38 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:14 pm

fuck.

39 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:14 pm

Crud.

40 mhoward120   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:15 pm

Hey, if we can't get one run back against a rookie in the playoffs, we deserve to be out

41 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:17 pm

Chavy Career URZ/150: 4.6
Jeter Career URZ/150: -6.5

Join the quiet Smoltz and STFU!

45 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:20 pm

[42] He is. Both of the first two pitches to Hardy were in the strike zone.

46 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:25 pm

Uh, oh. A double.

47 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:26 pm

Nice rip, Russell. Now, bring his ass HOME. This is not a request but an ORDER.

48 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:27 pm

Productive!

49 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:28 pm

[48] and a little unlucky.

50 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:29 pm

C'mon Cappy...

51 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:31 pm

O cap, my cap

55 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:31 pm

Man, Jones look like he botched that.

56 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:31 pm

Excellent.

57 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:31 pm

Wow, bad read by Jones?

58 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:31 pm

C'mon, base hit.

59 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:31 pm

Nice bubble, though, Jones. Thanks for keeping the inning alive.

60 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:31 pm

57) Yes. It carried on him.

61 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:32 pm

What happened there? Adam jones was too busy blowing bubbles, he should have had that, but we'll take the Jeter triple. Nice.

62 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:32 pm

bout time he did something Jeterian!

63 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:32 pm

It looked like a regular fly ball but the wind took it.

64 rbj   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:32 pm

[47] Derek will be your waiter tonight and take your order.

65 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:34 pm

Dag.

Okay, Hiroki. Smooth, baby, Smooth.

66 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:34 pm

Oh, come on.

67 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:38 pm

No lead off walks allowed.

68 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:38 pm

Come ON BLUE!

69 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:39 pm

DAMMIT.
At least a couple of those were strikes. Dammit.

70 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:39 pm

[6] mlb.com shows ball 3 a strike but the others were balls.

71 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:40 pm

Motherfuck.

72 mhoward120   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:40 pm

This feels real bad

73 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:40 pm

Not good.

ALDS MVP: Russell Martin
ALDS Silver Slugger: Russell Martin
ALDS Clutch Batter: Russell Martin
ALDS Most Pussy: Derek Jeter

75 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:42 pm

Okay, that's one out. Now turn two.

76 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:42 pm

Good. Now a double play so the good guys can hit.

77 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:43 pm

c'mon Kuroda. Cool out man.

78 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:43 pm

2-0, uh oh.

79 mhoward120   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:44 pm

Anyone else remember Thome's grand slam against Andy in Game 6 of the 1998 ALDS?

80 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:44 pm

Got away with one there.

81 mhoward120   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:44 pm

(79) Sorry, ALCS

82 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:45 pm

Two.

83 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:45 pm

Shit. With that dinosaur running they only get 1. Bollocks. Bad throw, Mark!

84 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:45 pm

Jim Thome: JUST TOO FAST to double up!

I know that's not the reason, but its funny.

85 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:46 pm

This could be trouble.

86 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:46 pm

And it is.

87 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:46 pm

Aw fuck.

88 mhoward120   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:46 pm

Hope his elbow is broke

89 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:46 pm

Not worried.

90 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:47 pm

[88] That's not nice.

91 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:47 pm

Get out of this!

92 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:47 pm

Bear Down, Hiroki.

93 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:47 pm

Kansas City Comment.

BZZZZZZZZT.

95 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:48 pm

Finally, a call.

96 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:48 pm

97 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:48 pm

98 mhoward120   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:48 pm

O-tay!

99 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:48 pm

Hm, I just flipped up Gameday (to see whether those pitches are really in the strike zone), and for some reason it isn't showing the name of the batter.

Let's go, Alex. Little Bingo here, Papi.

104 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:51 pm

Go Boom Alex

105 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:52 pm

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

106 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:52 pm

[103] [104] You're confusing him.

107 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:54 pm

That probably could have gone better, Alex.

108 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:54 pm

U.G.H.

109 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:54 pm

That pitch was right there. God fucking dammit.

110 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:54 pm

[103][104] More bingo than boom boom.

111 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:54 pm

Well, Alex is only getting sorta booed.

He looks dreadful up there, though.

112 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:56 pm

[111] Regardless of what happens tonight, I think he's hitting elsewhere tomorrow.

113 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:56 pm

Grrrrr.

114 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:57 pm

That was terrible.

115 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:57 pm

[112] DH and moved down in the order, or just moved down? Place your bets..

116 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:57 pm

Make 'em work. Good work team. : (

117 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:57 pm

112) Has to. He let a great pitch go by without offering and then whiffed on another decent one. Cal said he's "in between" and that's right.

118 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:58 pm

[112] BTW, I disagree. Batting 3rd at 3B, methinks.

We only have 5 more years.. it'll fly by.

119 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:58 pm

Next spring, when everyone gets back from the fucking Bud Games, we really need to consider bringing in a changeup guy to throw to the Yankees. Like when they used to bring in Charlie Hough before they faced Wakefield.

120 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 7:59 pm

I think it's quite possible that against a RHP, Girardi might play Chavy at 3rd and DH IBanez. Right now, ARod is cooked.

Joe could help ARod save face by blaming it on his hand (which may actually be the problem).

121 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:00 pm

Mother fucker.

122 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:00 pm

Oh no.

125 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:01 pm

This team is screwed.

126 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:01 pm

Machado #13, 3B goes Boom Boom.
Sigh..

127 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:01 pm

It is Hughes pitching. I knew it. It just looks like Kuroda.

128 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:02 pm

[117] It's hard to see well enough to hit when you're H.U.A.

Head Up Ass.

129 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:05 pm

Still, I have a feeling tonight's game's failure, if there is one, is going to be Kuroda, but rather on another pathetic display from the offense.

130 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:05 pm

Need to tie it here.

131 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:05 pm

I do believe this kid (20 years old) Manny Machado is going to be an excellent ballplayer for Baltimore for years to come.

132 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:07 pm

[129] Errr, isn't going to be primarily on Kuroda, that is ...

133 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:08 pm

[132] I really don't think he's been bad

134 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:09 pm

Well that is what not do on 3-1. Next.

135 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:09 pm

Teixiera pop up. Safe to assume it was on the change?

136 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:11 pm

Last year you could at least make the argument for Detroit's pitching. Yankees middle of the order has been totally shutdown by some mediocre pitching this year.

137 DC   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:11 pm

Who inspires less confidence- granderson or arod?

138 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:12 pm

[137] Yes.

139 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:12 pm

MVP!

140 bartap   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:13 pm

Orioles are exploiting the Yankees' greatest weakness - mediocre pitching. They have a habit of making these guys look like Cy Young.

141 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:13 pm

[137] I believe that Granderson might run into one.

Probably not, but it could happen.

142 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:13 pm

[140] And mediocre pitching with a changeup at that.

143 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:13 pm

Russell as the most successful hitter = bad news.

144 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:14 pm

[141] You're just saying that because he's a lefty facing a righty, and Alex is a righty.

145 bartap   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:15 pm

Cal - "Looking at the stats, this is the one guy [Chavez] that Gonzalez wants to be careful with."

What does that say about our supposedly vaunted offense?

146 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:15 pm

Alex seems confused and distressed by this game occurring in front of him.

147 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:15 pm

[143] Yeah, not exactly a blueprint for success.

148 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:16 pm

This offense fucking sucks.

149 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:16 pm

Needless to say, that was Ball Four.

150 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:16 pm

[144]Well, of course. If five years of Joe Girardi have taught me anything, its that no batter has ever gotten a hit of a same handed pitcher.

151 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:17 pm

I am so not in the fucking mood to watch Phil Hughes' act in an elimination game.

152 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:17 pm

[149] Needless to say, this game is Ball Saxbury ...

153 DC   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:17 pm

This is brutal....yet it also feels awfully familiar

154 bartap   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:17 pm

On the bright side, our bullpen figures to be well rested for Spring Training.

155 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:19 pm

[154] r-e-s-t-i-n-g

156 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:20 pm

Huroki is heating up.

157 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:20 pm

[154] I really, really don't want to see mixing and matching tonight, so I don't mind.

158 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:21 pm

CAN WE SCORE SOME FUCKING RUNS NOW?

159 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:21 pm

I'm not feeling like a Negative Neddy this morning, Yanks will come back to take this one. This Gonzalez kid is
good but not THIS good. Score Truck is on the way!

160 bartap   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:21 pm

Our pitching has been solid, but the offense is....somewhere else.

161 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:23 pm

[159] He's a career minor leaguer that needs reality to come crashing down.

162 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:23 pm

Big inning. I'm feelin' it.

Alright guys, this is our inning.

Knock this nobody out.

170 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:25 pm

Jesus, Jeter can barely run.

171 randym77   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:25 pm

Dang. Jeter's not running too good.

172 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:25 pm

Holy Crap, Jeter CANNOT run..they should pinch run for him.

173 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:25 pm

Yikes, Jeter is running like shit.

174 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:25 pm

Fuck.

175 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:25 pm

[172] Ichiro took care of that.

176 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:25 pm

Crap.

Derek's not looking too healthy out there.

177 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:26 pm

[172] You know who it would be.

178 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:26 pm

172) For who? Nunez? C'mon now.

179 mhoward120   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:26 pm

Good job, Ichiro -now we have to hope Robbie comes up with a 2-out hit

180 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:26 pm

[170][171][172][173][176] I sense a theme ...

181 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:26 pm

So, what is the general opinion of Bronx Banter: is Jeter running at full speed?

[177] The Thing That Should Not Be?

183 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:27 pm

[181] Hard to tell, with his lolligagging and cadillacing.

184 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:28 pm

Run into one you struggling sob.

185 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:28 pm

[183] Uh, not all of us speak Canadian.

186 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:28 pm

[182] If they put him in to run and replaced him with Nix, I'd be fine.

187 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:29 pm

That was a swing? Maybe.

188 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:29 pm

Oh dear fucking god. Nice swing.

189 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:29 pm

What is that now? Seven strikeouts in three games?

190 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:30 pm

Robinson Canobiwan, you are our only hope.

191 DC   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:30 pm

Never disliked a Yankee as much as I dislike Arod....and I remember '09. He is just the worst

192 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:31 pm

PAY ATTENTION ROB.

193 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:32 pm

Oh, Alex is lost right now.

194 bartap   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:32 pm

[191] Felix Heredia? Kyle Farnsworth? AJ Burnett?

195 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:32 pm

Well, Koufax Tuesday night and Pedro tonight. At least Alex will bat in the 9th at this rate. Hurray.

196 RIYank   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:32 pm

Sigh.

197 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:33 pm

Oh, Robbie.

198 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:33 pm

At least Jeter is trying.

199 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:33 pm

Career mediocrity Jason Hammel, career minor leaguer Miguel Gonzalez and Wei-Yin Chen.

UNHITTABLE.

200 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:34 pm

[194] CARL PAVANO?

Show/Hide Comments 201-300
201 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:34 pm

Well, they are all trying. Jeter got a triple because Adam Jones screwed up and a Luis Sojo million hopper.

202 bartap   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:34 pm

Can Sabathia go tomorrow if necessary?

203 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:35 pm

This is fucking embarrassing.

When Phil Hughes pisses all over himself tomorrow, I want changes for next year.

204 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:37 pm

[202] Joe already nixed it.

205 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:37 pm

[201] Of course they're trying. I was being facetious. Succeeding? That's another story.

206 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:38 pm

Tell that asshole in the first row to sit the fuck down. Jesus.

207 DC   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:39 pm

191 ...nope.......kevin brown is a close second. I know it's not rational but I never .liked him to begin with and feel like I've been forced to root for him cuz of uniform. Now he is declining but my expectations are the same and it's just an ugly mix.....

208 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:39 pm

205) Lol. True, true.

209 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:40 pm

Jeter looking worse than awful out there. Limping and grimacing in between pitches.

210 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:40 pm

207) Welp, at least you're not alone. I love rooting for him but he's the most disliked great Yankee of our time, more than Winnie, even more than Buck Tater himself.

211 DC   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:40 pm

P.s new here...not sure how you guys are getting the link original comment when you reply

212 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:41 pm

Dude, three innings, two runs? This can be done. They haven't shown us any life but fuck that: LET'S GO SCORETRUCK!

213 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:41 pm

Kuroda's made a couple of mistakes, but once again he's pitched a fine game with very little support. Let's see if the bats wake up this inning.

214 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:41 pm

[211] use square brackets.

215 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:41 pm

[150] Everyone aside from Teix, Jeter and Martin are batting under .250, and you blame Girardi?

216 OsRavan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:41 pm

What alex said. I want to be optimistic here.

217 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:41 pm

[214] around the original post number.

218 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:42 pm

[209] SHHHHHH. He's the only one hitting.

219 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:43 pm

I never liked Roger Clemens. I don't have strong feelings about ARod, but I didn't like the move to get him way back in 2004.

220 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:44 pm

I think they should bring in Nunez. Jeter can't move.

221 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:44 pm

[215] No. We were discussing who we have more faith in, Granderson or A-Rod.

And besides all of A-Rod's other problems, it was pointed out that we're facing a righty.

And righties can;t hit righties.

222 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:44 pm

Swish and Tex. Let's get it started!

223 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:45 pm

Until today, the O's have a line of: .227, .250, .273, .523
Today, they are 5 for 25. So Our pitching ain't the problem.

224 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:45 pm

They've been sucking big swing and misses from Swish on the splitter/change. Wonder if he can wait on one. Or square up a heater.

225 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:45 pm

[220] No way I take out Jeter's bat for Nunez.

226 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:46 pm

[219] A-Rod, for the first three or four years here was the least likable human walking the earth.

He's been much easier to like for a while now

227 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:46 pm

There's that change...

228 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:47 pm

Another change. Should have crushed that.

229 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:47 pm

[223] Our problem is that we can't hit mediocre pitching all of a sudden.

230 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:47 pm

[194] Ed Whitson? Tony Womack?? Andy Hawkins??? Enrique Wilson????

231 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:47 pm

225) Never mind his glove.

232 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:47 pm

[228] No one on this team can hit a change. We're lucky of they make contact

233 bartap   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:48 pm

It's getting late early.

234 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:48 pm

230) Steve Kemp?

235 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:49 pm

[194] Wilson really was wrong place wrong time.

Now, Steve "I just won you the pennant" Trout, on the other hand?

238 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:50 pm

I'd really appreciate it if they went back to the too-many-homers offense. Like, now.

239 DC   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:51 pm

Damn these guys suck

240 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:51 pm

This is a fucking disgrace.

241 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:51 pm

Does Granderson begin each AB 0-2? More importantly, does he end each AB 0-3?

242 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:51 pm

Alex has company in the suck department. BUT...it's still only a one run game. Let's just hope the relievers can hold them down. Yanks are still winning.

243 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:51 pm

Fucking horseshit bollocks!

244 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:51 pm

I go with ARod over Grandy. At least with ARod, there is a very slight chance of a Walk.

245 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:52 pm

237) Okay, how about Davey Collins?

246 DC   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:53 pm

[241] yes he is killing them right now too. I feel like I'm watching rob deer whe he hits.

247 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:54 pm

Hiroki needs to stay awesome.

248 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:54 pm

And some were worried about Verlander last week. oi! Gonzalez! Are you kidding me!

249 bartap   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:54 pm

Surely we can score 1 run before making 6 outs. This team is capable of scoring a lot of runs (or at least it was).

250 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:54 pm

246) LOL. Or Tom Brunansky.

251 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:54 pm

This guy Davis scares me.

252 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:56 pm

I think the Short Porch has killed Granderson. It's all he can think about. He had a decent .364 OBP in 2011. This year, .319.

253 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:56 pm

[244] That was the A-Rod that didn't swing at everything.

254 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:57 pm

Nice. One more, Hiroki.

255 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:57 pm

260 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 10, 2012 8:59 pm

I hope we aren't down 1-2 with three very good starts from our starters. Outside of the ninth inning in game 1, the offense hasn't done anything.

[300] No. In fact, I didn't know he was out. But he's been limping badly since fouling a ball off his foot in the early innings. Presumably Girardi git him a final AB in the eighth before removing him for defence.

309 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:20 pm

oh god. I hate that the mlb.com radio broadcast is like 60 seconds behind real life. HAHA But I loved reading that!

337 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:26 pm

OK, Cano, please end this.

338 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:26 pm

End this, Robby. Can't let up now.

339 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:27 pm

MAN, Robbie just missed that.

340 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:27 pm

I have to think this is going extras.

341 garydsimms   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:27 pm

Did you see Arod hugging Mo?

342 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:28 pm

Think they brought Mo out to the dugout as a good luck charm.

343 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:28 pm

341) That was great.

344 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:28 pm

Swisher going yard here would be epic for the team and for Swish.

345 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:28 pm

Come on Swish.

END IT

346 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:28 pm

[341] A-Rod always been a team player. I'm sure he's only angry at himself for slumping, but the guy has always been about the team.

347 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:29 pm

Got to get those three outs, man. Keep them off the damn board.

348 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:29 pm

Quick inning and end it in the tenth.

349 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:29 pm

Let's see if the Yankees second string can get it down in extras.

350 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:30 pm

[346] I don't totally agree. I think A-Rod is part furious right now. I don't hate the guy at all, but I honestly believe that.

351 garydsimms   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:30 pm

Ok
Extras. So what that Os have won like 47 in extras in a row!!! Let's. Go
Yan-kees!!

352 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:30 pm

Soriano for 2? Got to be.

353 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:30 pm

We need 3 quick outs. Can't let Baltimore get anything going. Get loud, crowd!

354 DC   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:31 pm

Good Lord this is stressful

355 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:31 pm

Life! I know it would have been spectacular to end it in the ninth, but now it's time to just win it.

Arod was happy when Raul hit the bomb, but a few seconds later was a little glum.

356 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:32 pm

[352] he only threw to one batter last inning, bit I still imagine this will be his only full inning.

357 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:32 pm

And you let Andino lead off with a single...ugh...this could still go very bad.

358 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:32 pm

bunting?

359 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:32 pm

If you give up a run here, Raffy, I'll beat you to death with a hobo.

Just sayin' ...

360 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:32 pm

can. not. squander. this.

361 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:33 pm

Got to get these two outs here, man. Bear DOWN.

362 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:33 pm

Can the announcers please stop moving the goalposts in regard to the Orioles record?

363 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:33 pm

I don't feel good about this here.

364 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:33 pm

[350] He has to know how awful he looked swinging tonight, and that Raul has just a perfect swing against Johnson. Great hunch by JoeyJoeJoe.

365 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:34 pm

2-0, oy.

366 DC   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:34 pm

[363]nope-me either

367 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:34 pm

[364] I'm note sure self-awareness has ever been his strong suit.

368 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:35 pm

If Nate walks, JJ's hitting a three-run homer.

369 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:35 pm

Ugh. Looking like Soriano has something lodged in his throat - please someone - Chavez, anyone - go give him a whack on the back!

370 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:35 pm

WHoo HOOOO.. Pretty. So pretty!

371 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:35 pm

That'll work. END IT HERE.

372 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:35 pm

[367] Regarding baseball, I'm sure it is.

NIX!!!!

373 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:35 pm

Jayson Nix with the Heimlich!

374 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:35 pm

Now THAT's what I'm talking about.

373) Best line of the night!

378 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:36 pm

[364] On the other hand, so what if he is mad about getting yanked? I figure these guys are super competitive and have extreme confidence in their abilities. It makes perfect sense if ARod felt that he should have gotten to bat.

That doesn't mean he won't also be a team player and root for Ibanez, etc.

Basically, it need not be an either/or situation.

379 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:36 pm

[368] lol... You're killin' me!

380 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:36 pm

Nice positioning by Stevie.

382 garydsimms   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:37 pm

383 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:38 pm

384 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:38 pm

Wow, Johnson is still in there.

385 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:38 pm

Cal knows nothing about Teix.

386 garydsimms   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:38 pm

Did Cal actually call for a bunt?

387 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:39 pm

Did Smoltz just say Teix should bunt?

388 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:39 pm

His pop ups are majestic.

389 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:39 pm

Grandy, perhaps? Makes like Raul methinks?

390 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:40 pm

Oh, that 2-0 pitch....Oh...

391 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:40 pm

We're going to the 11th...

392 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:40 pm

Wow, did Grandy get fooled on that 2-1 meatball

393 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:41 pm

Grandy is just up there guessing

394 monkeypants   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:41 pm

398 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:42 pm

[395] Or not.

Alabama Hammer time?

399 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:42 pm

Hey, Smoltz. You Hayseed. Mo looks effortless when he actually throws a baseball you douche! Not when you're imagining him throw a football you tool.

400 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 10, 2012 9:42 pm

Ugh. The Yankees have to win this thing, if only so I can stop hearing about how Baltimore never loses after the 8th inning when, blah blah blah blah blah

[494][499] Go look up the character Leon in "Blade Runner". Cult came up with that nickname. :)

504 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 10, 2012 10:27 pm

502) Agreed. I think the O's might have another one left in them. Sure hope the Yanks put a fucking beating Saunders who seems to be pitching on another level with his wily ass self. And there's always the Hughes factor.

You are right, too. That was a beautiful job by Boone, Sori and Robertson.

505 knuckles   ~  Oct 10, 2012 10:29 pm

I'm watching the post game...can someone do a mashup of Showalter tonight and Philip S-H as Lester Bangs in Almost Famous? Can barely tell them apart except for the cap on Buck's head.

I thought Philip S-H looked just like Art Howe?

507 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 10, 2012 10:45 pm

Buck's act does wear thin after a few years.

This game for Raul is right up there with Reggie's 3 homers in the WS. Aaron Boone's HR was almost inevitable after the team comeback. But Raul's HRs saved the game and probably the season singlehandedly (not even counting his bombs in the Oakland and Boston games that preserved 1st place). Tonights game will never be forgotten, and could be the start of the endgame for Arod and the Yankees.

Give Rodriguez credit. He is handling the postgame questions well, and was one of the first players to greet Ibanez after he hit that first home run. Good job, A-Rod.

As Gene Hackman said in Hoosiers, "Team. Team. Team."

[508] Always said that A-Rod was a team guy all the way. He agreed to move to 3B despite being a better shortstop than Jeter! Glad I am way over here and can easily avoid the tabloid nonsense about him. He'll hit tomorrow and Yanks will clinch in 4, "you can put it on the board, Yes!"™

So.... TWICE Raul has 2 ABS, tieds the game in the 9th and Wins it in Extras. TWICE. Within a 2 week time no less.

According to Steve at WW, that is the first time in Post Season HISTORY that a player had 2 PA and 2 HR.

Just got back from the hospital. I was lucky to have signal see the fireworks in the waiting room.

I came back to read all the talk about Girardi pinch-hitting for A-Rod and nothing. WTF

Guys that has got to be the ballsiest move of the decade. Pinch-hitting for a HOFer, one of the greatest HR hitters of all time, at home in a one run game.

Girardi is a genius in my book.
