Logic says the Tigers starting pitching should make this lineup their bitches for this series.

Therefore, I expect the Yankees to score 34 runs and win in 5.

2 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 4:39 pm

I think Girardi made the right call on the rotation.
Also, I would have preferred C-Dick as the call-up to replace Nuñez, and if they want Eppley I would drop Joba. But this move isn't terrible either. I think more often you want an extra position player, but when you need the extra reliever you need him badly.

3 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 5:54 pm

[2] What's the word on Joba, can he pitch now or needs a few days off?

STL-SF, NYY-DET. Real old school matchups!

4 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 6:43 pm

[3] I'm pretty sure he is available. I think he claimed to be available yesterday.

5 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 6:48 pm

Getting close to GO TIME!

LET'S GO YANKEES!!!

6 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:05 pm

[4] I'd be totally happy if the starters continue to make the status of the middle relievers irrelevant.

7 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:07 pm

Alright Andy, be dandy!

8 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:09 pm

Oh no..is this Sutcliffe announcing? May be time for the Japanese broadcast.

9 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:10 pm

[8] Radio? He's not on the TBS broadcast.

10 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:10 pm

That looked pretty good.

11 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:11 pm

[8] I missed the intro, but sounds like him on my TV broadcast..

12 rbj   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:11 pm

Good, no one on.

13 rbj   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:12 pm

Ruh roh, one on.

14 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:13 pm

[11] Well, not sure what you're getting in Japan, but TBS has the coverage here and Sutcliffe is ESPN.

15 rbj   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:13 pm

Sweet.

16 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:13 pm

Siddown, fat man.

17 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:14 pm

Goodnight, sweet Prince!

18 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:14 pm

[14] Hmmm ... others in other places have mentioned the Thing That Should Not Be ... maybe I'm wrong about TBS having this round.

19 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:17 pm

Why must the starters give their country of origin?

20 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:17 pm

Small strike zone. Andy got that too.

21 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:18 pm

[18] Yeah, it's confusing because the broadcast starts here only a few mins before first pitch in Japanese. Then at first pitch you can switch to the English feed. Definitely Sutcliffe doing color here..is it FUX for you?

22 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:18 pm

It sure would be nice to have a big fat slapdown of an inning early.

Go Bats!

23 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:18 pm

[19] ??

24 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:18 pm

[21] Nope, sounds like the same crew from the ALDS, the TBS guys.

25 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:21 pm

[24] That's definitely Ron Darling talking

26 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:21 pm

Fister got away with a mistake to Rob.

27 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:21 pm

[23] On my broadcast, whatever that is, the starting lineup is shown one at a time, like on MNF, and each starter gives his name and native land: Derek jeter, USA...Ichiro Suzuki, Nippon...etc.

The kind of thing that really pisses me off for several reasons.

28 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:22 pm

[21] From others in other places, it appears that Sutcliffe does the international feed.

I'm sorry.

29 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:23 pm

[28] Is he at least sober?

30 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:24 pm

C'mon LEON!

31 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:25 pm

He walked Jeter much more efficiently than he walked Teixeira.

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:25 pm

What up, gang? Can anyone recall a Yankees series starting the day after clinching another series? it seems rare to me. Go Raul!

33 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:25 pm

[28] Yeah, it seems there is something called "MLB International" that has Gary Thorne and Sutty handling the overseas market.

[27] Hmm..not sure why they do that, but why would it piss you off? MLB is proud of being so international these days so...

34 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:25 pm

[27] It's football envy.
In the analogous intros on an NFL game, they all say which university they played for.

35 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:26 pm

Those post season sweatshirts are certainly busy looking

36 garydsimms   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:26 pm

Rauuuuuuul. Walk!!! Arod redemption

37 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:26 pm

And here comes A-Rod. No pressure...

38 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:27 pm

Redemption song. For the love of Mo.

39 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:27 pm

I think all four of the called balls to Raul were in the zone.
I would be fuming if I were a Tiger fan.

40 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:27 pm

Go Go A-Rod, you can do it!!

41 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:27 pm

You know, I really *should* trademark my phrase for these situations: "Alex. It *always* comes down to Alex."

42 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:27 pm

Smile, Alex!

43 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:28 pm

Shite!

44 garydsimms   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:28 pm

Aweful call

45 rbj   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:28 pm

Soclose!

46 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:28 pm

A-Rod has the worst luck on earth

47 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:28 pm

[41] That would have been a low-mileage phrase yesterday though, huh?

48 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:28 pm

Fuck.

Lady Luck wouldn't piss on Alex Rodriguez if he were on fire.

Sigh.

49 bartap   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:28 pm

He looked safe to me.

50 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:29 pm

Fuckin guy can't buy a break.
Was Ibanez really out at 2nd?
24 pitches for Fister.

51 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:29 pm

At least he hit it square. But still. Damn!

52 garydsimms   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:29 pm

Where is the replay?

53 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:30 pm

[33] I hate the obvious effort to emulate football [34], and I especially hate the emphasis on 19th century nationalism as a primary locus of self-identification. Frankly, I don't give a fuck what country some player is from. Even if baseball is proud of its internationalism, this is a hamfisted way to advertise it.

54 garydsimms   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:31 pm

Guess the call was right

55 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:31 pm

Looked like a good call on the replay. A-rod is snakebit.

56 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:31 pm

[35] I don't have respect for any "postseason" merchandise. First of all, "postseason" is a marketing term. It's the PLAYOFFS. Second, the goal is the ring. You don't buy new clothes to celebrate "almost." Wearing those shirts is like a corporate employee wearing a polo shirt that says "Productivity Retreat 2012: Committed to Excellence!"

57 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:31 pm

Delmon Young has gotten fat. I blame the Jews.

58 bartap   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:33 pm

[55] It looked like he was in the process of falling off the bag as the ball was entering his glove. I would have liked to see the next frame.

59 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:33 pm

Hope that little punk ass kid realizes how cool it is he just got handed a foul ball by Alex. : ) Andy's dealing thus far.

60 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:33 pm

[55] Uncanny.
[53] Well, I think if you talk to some of the players from other countries it's quite important for them to have their home country recognized. It doesn't have to be a "nationalist" sentiment..too often all Latin players are lumped together despite the bast differences in cultures between say, the Domincan Republic and Mexico..but this is a discussion for the offseason!

61 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:35 pm

Okay, so Andy is through two in the pitch count it took Fister to get through one. (Well, almost.)

62 garydsimms   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:35 pm

Andy must have a portrait in the basement!!!!

63 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:35 pm

Andy Dirks looks like the jock asshole in a 1980s high school movie.

64 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:35 pm

I think Alex looks pretty damn spry in the field. He can't be cooked as hitter, yet. He's in a miserable fucking slump and is bound to come out of it. Tonight. Toopmistic!

65 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:36 pm

[57] Guilty.

66 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:37 pm

[57][65] Delmon Young is Jewish? I'm quite confused about this joke..

67 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:37 pm

[56] One Christmas I got not 1, but 2 2003 Yankees World Series shirts. I wanted to say, Are you fucking me? But I just smiled and said thanks. Bollocks.

69 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:40 pm

You know Curtis, you *CAN* get a hit without hitting a homerun, right?

70 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:40 pm

[69] 'can' able to, or 'can' allowed to?

71 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:41 pm

[69] He does not know this.

72 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:41 pm

Muscle. Hits are good.

73 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:43 pm

74 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:43 pm

Crap, Cap'n, what was wrong with THAT pitch???

75 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:43 pm

C'mon Ichi.

Thrill us!

77 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:43 pm

[68] Ah of course, I remember that now from earlier in the season. What an idiot.

78 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:43 pm

C'mon, Ichi!

79 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:44 pm

ICHI!!!

Ichiro!

Come on Robbie

81 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:45 pm

Do it, Robinson! Wait for your pitch.

94 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:50 pm

Safe, and not as close as I thought

95 bartap   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:50 pm

Cano was clearly safe on the replay.

96 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:51 pm

[93] Just really fucking irritating.

97 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:51 pm

That's a strike, BLUE!

99 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:52 pm

I just hace to question if Robbie was running hard.

100 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:54 pm

[97] In any case, it looks like Fister is done for the night. So, do we have the Yankees get shut down by a collection of relievers?

Where's Chip Caray when you need him?

106 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:57 pm

107 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:58 pm

Nope, Fister is back. What circus act does this inning bring?

108 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:58 pm

Wheels Teixeira. Better keep him close, Fister!

109 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:58 pm

Hey, okay!

Let's have an inning where we get three walks and three hits.

110 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 7:59 pm

Sutcliffe is killing. Beyond the inane analysis, the actual sound of his voice is grating. I'm really starting to miss Ripken and Co.

I'd say this team was driving me to drink, but I was already drinking as a precautionary measure.

So, this team is driving me to drink ... harder.

166 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:31 pm

GRRRRRR.
Ichiro gets much too aggressive with Fister-like pitchers.

167 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:31 pm

Oh god, Gary Thorne and Sutty are going on about the overseas military..please stop. Right after blowing the Captain for running hard on a ground ball out..they're too much.

168 bartap   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:31 pm

"Objective" announcers admit that Cano was a "tiny bit safe" on the close play at 1st.

169 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:32 pm

Well that was a big pile of horse shit.

170 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:32 pm

So, Fister is Detroit's worst starter in the playoff rotation, is that what I heard?

171 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:33 pm

Also, Cano "might have been a 'tiny bit safe'"????

See [159] and FUCK YOU, you sack-licking, knob-gobblers.

172 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:35 pm

[159] we better get a call later in this game/series.

i'm pissed.

[165] have one for me. no drinkin' tonite, unfortunately...

we really need the score truck!!!

173 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:35 pm

Taking heart from the big reduction in strikeouts so far. There's no such thing as a seeing-eye strikeout that bleeds through for a hit.

174 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:35 pm

jesus fucking h. christ.

175 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:35 pm

Oh man...that's just horrible luck.

176 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:35 pm

[170] They just need to face some aces. That's all. Great. Nice fucking triple.

177 rbj   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:35 pm

Fan needed to touch that.

178 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:36 pm

Well this is a wonderful start to the inning.

179 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:36 pm

Thanks, whoever designed that piece of the wall. I'm sure it passed revenue generation analysis.

180 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:36 pm

Wow. Surprising.

181 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:36 pm

Wow, no send on that fly ball?

182 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:37 pm

please get a dp. PLEASE!!!

183 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:37 pm

This IBB is certainly a high risk, high reward tactic.

184 rbj   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:37 pm

Time to break out in sweat.

185 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:38 pm

Roll over, Prince. 4-6-3.

186 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:38 pm

[183] Don't like it..Fielder is no chump.

187 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:38 pm

Hey does Fister get hit with a hard LD on the wrist, and not even swell up? Cano is safe at first, and AJax gets in infield triple. They are getting every break.

188 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:38 pm

Hello all. I don't remember a ball dying there in NYS. Unlucky spinner triple.

189 rbj   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:39 pm

Crap.

195 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:40 pm

IBB fails.

196 rbj   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:40 pm

dammit.

197 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:40 pm

Nick Swisher sucks at everything these playoffs, huh?

198 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:41 pm

[186] Hence the "high risk" part of the analysis.

199 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:41 pm

It's not THAT shallow, TBS dicks. It's still a major league field. Shut up.

202 bartap   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:42 pm

We need some of the mystique and aura of yesteryear. Stat.

203 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:45 pm

Uh. This is not good.

204 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:45 pm

fuck.

NOW can we get that double play? PLEASE?!?!?!

205 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:46 pm

Well, at least Eppley is on the roster, so Girardi can start playing matchup rouxlette earlier in the game.

206 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:47 pm

that'll do. one more. NOW!

207 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:47 pm

I still can't believe Swisher stood there and let the ball fall in front of him.

208 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:47 pm

Keep 'em at two and let the good guys come back and win.

209 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 8:47 pm

(Actually, I would be in favor of eliminating that rule, but that's a discussion for another time.)

ok, good.

NOW FUCKING SCORE MANY RUNS!!!!

261 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:04 pm

Are we gonna hear people complaining about Yankee fans booing that spectacle we just saw?

262 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:05 pm

i can't believe the offense has been this inept for this long. unbelievable.

good start, andrew eugene.

263 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:05 pm

I'm worried Arod is going to go postal. How can anyone talk to him on the bench.?

264 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:06 pm

Booing? I don't know why we aren't seeing fans holding up signs like "YOU FUCKING IDIOTS."

[266] You know that's not true.

271 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:09 pm

[269] That's what the Tigers scored.

272 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:09 pm

[263] It's ridiculous now. Can they bench A-Rod, Grandy & Swish in the same game? Maybe Bubba Crosby is available...

273 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:10 pm

[269] Well, frankly, just booing doesn't seem to be getting through ...

274 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:10 pm

The Yankees will come back. Arod will have to be pinched hit again if it comes down to a must deliver situation. No joke, the team has to play to win, and forget the egos.

275 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:10 pm

I think back in March I was watching a spring training game. The Yanks shit the bed with RISP and I said if this was the regular season I'd be pissed. I have now been pissed for going on 7 months now. Oi!

276 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:11 pm

Please tell me we're not bringing in Cody Eppley to face Miguel Cabrera

277 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:11 pm

[272] It would be easier to do that with a longer bench...and a BUOF who is allowed to bat.

You're pulling him here? seriously Girardi?

278 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:12 pm

[270] Ya think Girardi's at fault?

279 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:13 pm

[277] Oh no..MUCH rather have Andy P face Cabrera!! This match up nonsense is infuriating.

280 mhoward120   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:13 pm

Andy was seriously pissed at being taken out

281 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:13 pm

[277] Brett Gardner, Raul Ibanez, Lou Piniella, I don't care. You can NOT let Nick Swisher play tomorrow. I would have ripped him off the field as soon as the ball fell, to be honest. Not like his hitting can justify that.

282 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:14 pm

Badass! Good job, Lowe!

283 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:14 pm

[279] Ignore that post, please. Well done, bullpen rouxlette!

284 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:14 pm

On a purely theoretical level, circumstance could turn that into the last time Andy ever jogs off. I don't see that being the case. But just sayin'.

287 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:16 pm

Fun part of the Japan feed, before the cut to Ichiro-replays and the J announcers to fill the commercial time, you often hear what the main broadcasters are saying "off air". Just caught Sutty saying to Thorne "hey, they always thought I was a dummy, now they got proof.." No idea what that context was but very funny.

I agree with this, actually: let Lowe go the rest of the way and save the rest of the staff for tomorrow, when Kuroda starts on short rest.

334 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:37 pm

Done. Gotta go stand in line for a spot to see the samurai horseback archery at the shrine across the street.

Enjoy the slow torture, boys and girls.

goddamn anti-semetic piece of fucking dogshit.

game over.

[333] Joe heard ya and said eff that.

340 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:40 pm

Look, the game is lost. Might as well let Lowe absorb all of the pitches over the last couple of innings.

No. Girardi can't help himself. Great. How many pitchers will he burn through in this futile cause?

341 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:41 pm

yanks will lose in 5 and that'll be that.

: (

342 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:43 pm

Maybe a 2 out hit here could show the Yanks how it's done.

343 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:44 pm

Well played, Chessmaster.

344 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:44 pm

doesn't matter.

we'll lose in 5...

345 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:44 pm

[342] What does a two-out, two-strike hit (with RSIP) teach them? About as much as it would teach a stone, I bet

346 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:44 pm

There it is. See Yankees. You don't have to blow 3 bases loaded opportunities. You can actually be successful with RISP. And 2 outs no less.

347 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:45 pm

Couldn't Lowe have been left in to do this?

348 rbj   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:45 pm

Oh well, I don't hate the Tigers so I can root for them in the Whirled Serious.

349 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:48 pm

Rouxlette. Spin the wheel. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. Usually you lose.

350 OsRavan   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:48 pm

[344] and [348]
dont be totally pessimistic. This is just one game. These things can turn around pretty fast. I mean I grant we dont look good right now, but im not ready to throw up my hands and wait for next season.

351 mhoward120   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:48 pm

Do we waste scoring 2 runs here to make the score close instead of saving them for tomorrow?

352 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:51 pm

I'd like to know who paid Girardi to throw this game. Lowe gets Cabrera AND Fielder out, and instead of saying, "Shit, I've tempted fate enough," and taking Lowe out, he leaves him in!

Then he lets Logan face a righty!

AND he's got an 8-man bullpen!

Why did Girardi decide to lose his "Coffee Joe" attitude tongith of all nights? This is insanely maddening.

353 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:51 pm

I think Coke is heavier than he was last inning

354 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:52 pm

[352] Oh hell. It doesn't matter

355 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:53 pm

Of course, not as maddening as the 7 runs the Yanks should have had on the board but don't, because Doug Fister transmorgrified into Walter Johnson tonight and the Yankees transmorgrified into Alvaro Espinosa.

356 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:54 pm

You know, as I said waaaaaay earlier, I didn't expect us to beat the Tigers, and after tonight, well, that SURE hasn't changed.

But, I was kinda hoping and thinking we'd at least do enough to not embarrass themselves.

Guess not ...

[353] My brother also decided to pay more attention to how fat so many Tigers are (or look). Wasn't Coke slim when he pitched for the Yanks? I don't remember him looking so big.

359 randym77   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:54 pm

Phil Coke has a 1.65 WHIP this season.

360 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:54 pm

A pitching change to face Rodriguez? What, are they bringing in my mom just to make it sporting?

361 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:55 pm

[357] Why not let Eppley bat? Or Rapada? They aren't likely to pitch.

I'd hate to be the team that let THAT guy get away.

366 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:57 pm

[360] Why would Girardi let A-Rod bat now, with the Yanks down by 4 runs? Why not let Chavez come in to make an out instead?

The Yanks' bench is currently Chris Stewart, Jayson Nix, and Brett "I can't let him hit because he's only played 4 games since April" Gardner. I will now light myself on fire.

367 randym77   ~  Oct 13, 2012 9:58 pm

382 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:03 pm

Okay, I'm gonna be optimistic. This is a bad game, probably one of the worst of the year. But it only counts for one. Tomorrow is a new day.

383 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:03 pm

[390] You'd tell me about the rabbits, Shaun P., wouldn't you???

392 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:09 pm

I think its kinda funny how we've all given up on this waste of a game, but Joe continues to manage it at his Coffee Joe worst like perhaps one of these 6,000 moves will make a difference in this lost cause.

393 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:09 pm

[390] Gladly - I've never been to California, so it would be the perfect reason to finally go! ;)

[388] I do wonder if Jackson would have done what he did if he'd stayed with the Yanks.

I also wonder how useful Ian Kennedy would have been the last couple of years, if he could have pitched well in the AL.

394 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:10 pm

[392] It won't make a difference, but it may burn the bullpen for tomorrow. Don't you never but never underestimate the Chessmaster.

395 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:11 pm

[393] I assume the Yankee organization would turn him into a middle reliever like they do with every other starting pitching prospect.

396 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:11 pm

[392] Valverde has been something of an adventure in the 9th inning lately. If Eppley can hold the Tigers here, it might not be a lost cause.

Of course, if it was 2-0 instead of 4-0 I'd feel a lot more optomistic.

Huzzah! Rapada comes in!

397 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:11 pm

OMG, is it "get everyone in" time? Will Girardi pile them in the Dodge Caravan and go for ice cream after?

398 OsRavan   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:13 pm

You know.

I think we may need to get away from yankee stadium in order to start hitting. Im actually going to predict next game we score under 3 runs again (though I hope im wrong).

I feel like at home with the fans so tense and everyone breathing down their necks everyone is just so wound up.

I bet when they get to detroit and suddenly the fans arent groaning and booing and moaning and freaking out with every strike with runners in scoring position some of the pressure will lift and people will relax somewhat.

[400] Especially with Verlander looming in Game 3. I know the Yanks have hit him well over the years, and of course Hughes outdueled him in Detroit earlier in the year, but still . . .

402 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:18 pm

415 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:26 pm

And the Yankees extend their lead in Andy Pettitte's record-breaking 20th playoff win to 9-4!

Oh, wait, right.

Pettitte will be the first to tell you it's all team, but this offense has screwed him twice now. He wasn't lights-out either time but he deserved much better.

I was encouraged by them loading the bases in three innings, they were at least getting on base. It seemed like in the extra innings against Baltimore, nobody was getting on base.

Can Sori go another? We can't burn DRob so fast (if he is even available).

So much for saving the BO for Kuroda.

490 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:49 pm

Bottom of the order get it done? For sure this situation doesn't cure Grandy of longball fever.

Steal this game, win now! Just a little run.

492 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:49 pm

Cano, A-Rod, Swish & Grandy should all chip in and get Ibanez a serious present for saving their asses.

Saving the BO...

Any chance Swish just tries for a base hit? Naaaahhhhhh.

497 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:51 pm

[479] I'm not letting Girardi off the hook for that. If he was seriously playing for the win at that time, why bring Lowe back out, and why let Logan face a RHP? Girardi managed the pitching weirdly after Pettitte left the game, though he may yet get bailed out.

498 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 10:52 pm

[492] Raul signed this year for batboy tip money. Those four guys shouldn't give him a present; they should give him a percentage.

571 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:09 pm

[560] They weren't playing for it, and [556] is right - Miggy is ill-equipped to handle it. And Jeter is about the best bunter in the game. Risky, sure, but attractive risky.

Man I can't take these goddamn LOBs.

652 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:31 pm

That move to first holds nothing for Ichiro to fear.

653 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:32 pm

jesus fuck.

654 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:32 pm

This fucking team

655 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:32 pm

I don't blame Teix for the broken bat but I blame him for the uppercut.

656 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:32 pm

I think Raul can take this guy deep..

657 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:32 pm

Absolute futility. It blows my mind that the 2012 New York Yankees entire offensive attack relies on Raul Ibanez.

658 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:32 pm

Inching closer to Doom: Miggy and Prince.

659 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:33 pm

Raul's not going to see a strike.

660 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:33 pm

Don't take the bat out of Raul's hands. But if he gets to strike 2, then run. Worst case is he bats again.

661 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:35 pm

Oh man, the 2-1 pitch was fat.

662 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:35 pm

This is a real hard team to watch

663 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:35 pm

start him.

664 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:35 pm

Useless inning. Here comes the boom.

665 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:35 pm

I don't think we get through 3-4-5 unscathed

666 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:35 pm

Dum de Dum Dum.

667 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:35 pm

is that 12 or 13 LOB?

668 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:36 pm

Well, this is going to be nerve racking.

669 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:36 pm

Oof.

We were all sitting here worrying about who's due up for Detroit. Was Girardi? Didn't seem to be on his mind.

670 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:37 pm

It was odd that Ichiro didn't run outside of those two or three times when Cano fouled the ball off. Maybe he was not so comfortable with Smyly's delivery?

671 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:37 pm

Soriano only threw 13 pitches..why wasn't he sent back out for a second inning?

672 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:37 pm

great. now we get to lose with eppley pitching to biggy...

673 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:38 pm

[671] i was thinkin' the same thing...

this is now VERY scary!!! : (

674 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:38 pm

Is that Phelps? Gulp.

675 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:38 pm

You know, I laughed at it during the season, but this team is fucking AWFUL if they can't hit a HR. Bad AB, bad results, boring to watch.

676 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:38 pm

[671] He threw 2 innings last nigh, right? That's my only guess.

677 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:38 pm

c'mon kid!!!

678 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:39 pm

Oh, this has no chance of going well.

679 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:40 pm

On the other hand, Phelps gets through these guys, he makes some bones with me.

680 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:40 pm

give us a fuckinhg pitch, ump!!!

681 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:41 pm

[675] I think they & we really missed Gardner.

682 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:41 pm

full count. damn.

683 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:41 pm

how he missed at ball, I dunno. But I'm glad he did.

693 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:43 pm

So, for each team, it would be worth it to win this game?

694 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:44 pm

Swisher is dead to me.

695 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:44 pm

How about dive TO the ball instead of missing it and then falling down theatrically?

703 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:46 pm

little league bullshit.

704 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:46 pm

Rip Swisher off the field right now. Humiliate his goofy ass. That;s TWO Tiger runs that are directly his fault. TWO.

705 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:46 pm

STOP SHOWING IT!

706 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:46 pm

Diving is never a good idea.

Swisher is up in the bottom of the inning, he better redeem himself.

707 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:46 pm

[697] You see Cornflake? DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE?!@?!?!?

708 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:47 pm

I like Swisher a lot, but he has been a one man wrecking crew tonight. What a disaster.

709 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:47 pm

[702] He did that against Baltmore too. He's an asshole. I want him off the team.

710 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:47 pm

[704] And who goes in to RF? Ibanez, and lose the DH?

Oh crap, Jeter, what is wrong with Jeter?!?

711 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:47 pm

Now what?

712 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:47 pm

please no!

714 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:47 pm

It looks like Swisher is trying to throw this series. That''s how bad he's been in the outfield. And now Jeter can't walk. Jeter not being able to stand sums up this game.

715 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:48 pm

721 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:49 pm

Oh fuck. Fuck fuck fuck that is BAD.

See what happens when you leave Derek Lowe in too long, Girardi?

Can they make injury replacements mid-series if needed?

727 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:50 pm

[721] Yes.

Makes me mad to think that hayseeds and dimwits and small-souled people in bars around the country are cheering right now to see Jeter get hurt.

728 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:50 pm

That's fitting.

729 JeremyM   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:51 pm

Bad News Bears stuff going on now.

730 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:52 pm

There ar eno words to describe how furious I am at Nick Swisher right now

731 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:52 pm

This inning was fated to go badly, if not this insanely badly. That's why they should have played the bottom of the 11th as if getting Ichiro home were a matter of life and death.

732 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:53 pm

[727] Makes me mad to think that hayseeds and dimwits on the Yankees are going to blow this series, while Derek Jeter played on one leg until they had to carry him off the field.

733 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:53 pm

Wheels really coming off. There isn't an 'I feel great' coming from Jeter tomorrow. Something ripped.

734 randym77   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:53 pm

[721] They can, but it means the player is out for this series and the next.

But given how Jeter looked, I wouldn't be surprised if he was done for the season anyway.

So...who is there to add to the roster? Can be anyone who was in the Yankees organization as of Aug. 31 and has not been released.

735 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:53 pm

Well, I guess we get to see if Gardner can bat. There's that.

736 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:54 pm

[732] True that.

737 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:54 pm

[734] They would add Nunez without a doubt. They're not going to play the series with no BUIF.

738 JeremyM   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:54 pm

Put A-Rod at short, maybe it'll revive his corpse somehow. Ha ha. I'm laughing to stop from crying... Not that they're losing, but Jeter carried off? Fudge.

739 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:55 pm

I somewhat regret now staying up to keep watching this.

The joy I felt after Ibanez worked his magic again is completely gone. If Jeter is hurt badly the Yanks are well and royally fucked.

740 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:55 pm

this is prolly the last yankee game of the season i will see. i won't be around tomorrow or tues/wed/thurs. i'm sure the season will be done by next weekend... : (

741 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:55 pm

Don't worry folks. Yeah, Jeter might be out for the season, but there's veterans that can carry the team: Cano. Teix. ARod. Grandy.

Oh wait...

742 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:56 pm

Swisher should face a shitrain of abuse when he comes to bat.

743 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:56 pm

No Mo..No Captain..time for a generational shift for the Yanks to come back and win this series. CC's proven his leadership and performance, time for Cano to summon Reggie and get it done!

744 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:56 pm

[732] Oh Captain, our Captain . . .

Even if the Yanks somehow come back and win this one, I am not sure I will be happy. This is like watching Mo go down on the warning track all over again, only worse.

745 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:57 pm

Arod to SS. Chavez to 3B. The greatest comeback in history! Seeing Jeter down made me sick to my stomach. The 2nd great Yankee this season to lay on the field writhing in pain. : (

746 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:57 pm

[741] And don't forget exciting young players like...[crickets chirping]

747 randym77   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:58 pm

BTW, is Swisher really a bigot? I've heard people say that about him, but they were Yankee haters so I wasn't sure if it was true or not.

748 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:58 pm

All I know is this ... the more this team pisses me off, the more they make me despise them, the more they confound me by somehow, inexplicably managing to win out in the end.

I can see them being swept, I can see them winning the series, just to spite me and my loathing.

This team slaps me and tells me to hate-fuck it.

I'm not entirely comfortable with that ...

749 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 13, 2012 11:58 pm

[742] Dude has been a good player for the Yanks, but I do wonder if his "performance" this postseason plus his alleged desire for a "Jayson Werth contract" (7 years $126M) mean the Yanks will say so long to Swisher.

Alright Chavez, a comeback would be the only way to salvage this travesty of a game. You get it started.

758 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:01 am

Have these commentators ever spoken on camera before? They sound like blithering idiots.

760 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:01 am

[751] Fielded a grounder, went to do something, crumpled to the ground and kind of tossed the ball a few feet in frustration. He had to be carried off the field. It looked awful.

Fuck you, Swisher. Its not fair to blame you but I don't care right now.

761 randym77   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:02 am

[751] Not sure yet, but he had to be carried off the field. Looked like his ankle.

If they substitute Nunez for him, Jeter can't play in the WS.

But I don't think he'd be able to anyway. It looked bad.

762 monkeypants   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:02 am

[754] Pineda is young.

Who?

763 knuckles   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:02 am

764 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:02 am

[760] Swisher was the only one among them who took his suck out on defense with him.

765 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:03 am

[759] I've watched most of the playoffs on mute, because they are awful. Ron Darling isn't so bad, but Smoltz is dragging him down.

This is the worst game I've ever seen, and I remember the no hitter that Andy Hawkins lost 4-0.

Hey Phelps, its not your fault.

Oh, and fuck you Tigers.

766 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:03 am

768 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:05 am

[764] Swisher & Cano are getting the brunt of my anger now..just a pathetic performance.

Maybe some "Ewing Theory" hope without Mo & Captain to rally the guys??

769 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:05 am

[762] You know, tall pitcher, Yanks got him via trade for Jesus Montero from the Mariners, he got hurt in spring training and dind't pitch at all this year?

Don't confuse him with Dellin Betances, who is also tall and young but did pitch this year and shit the bed, or Manny Banuelos, who is not tall but is young and also got hurt and didn't pitch much this year, or Jose Campos, who's height I don't know and is really young (20) and also got hurt and barely pitched this year.

So many young hurt pitchers.

You know, if you took a piece of shit, the world's finest piece of Wagyu beef, and another piece of shit and made a sandwich out of them ... you'd have a piece of shit.

That's what this game was like to watch: Eating a shit sandwich to get to the filet and having to eat more shit for the trouble.

In a rage.

772 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:08 am

[760] [761] Thanks. There goes my plan of sitting Cano and putting Nix in.

I still think they need to sit Grandy for Gardy. At least Gardy can walk or get an infield hit.

773 Sliced Bread   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:09 am

Soul crushing loss, and I'm not even referring to the game.

774 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:12 am

Fractured ankle. He's done.

780 randym77   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:13 am

On the bright side...Girardi says it won't jeopardize his career.

781 JeremyM   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:14 am

[772] I'd rather see Gardner in left, Grandy in center, and Ichiro in right after that shit show in right tonight.

Fracture. Jeter's done.

783 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:16 am

[776] [777] Just saw that, too. It makes monkeypants' [732] all the more poignant.

I hope this is not how it ends.

784 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:17 am

[783] The ALCS, I mean, with the Yanks getting swept. Just to be clear.

[772] Yes. And perhaps Granderson will start hitting vs RHP.

785 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:18 am

[782] Literally, maybe.

Yikes.

786 Sliced Bread   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:19 am

Honestly I don't care about the rest of this team right now.
This too shall pass.

Why wasn't Joe asked about the fractured team and how long that's out for?

788 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:22 am

Against all odds now, folks.

The Yanks aren't out of this thing yet. Probably will be, but not yet. Let's take the roller coaster ride for at least 3 more games.

789 JeremyM   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:22 am

This season we've seen Mo tear his knee shagging flies, Andy break his leg on a comebacker, A-Rod break his wrist on a change-up (!?!), and now this with Jeter. Yikes.

790 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:32 am

Somebody (Cano, Swisher, Granderson, Arod) has to get out of their funk.

I really think A-Rod should go to short. Might rally him a little bit.

792 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 14, 2012 12:35 am

[791] CoffeeJoe dismissed that idea in the post-game presser (in case you didn't see it).
