Brand New Heavies

Don’t like these Blue Jays. Not one bit. Haven’t for a few years but now that they’ve got some talent and some hype, forget it. I dislike them so much I found myself rooting for the Red Sox when they played the Jays a few weeks ago.

The Red Sox.

Andy is back tonight as the Yanks are in Toronto for the weekend.

Wow, that's the sign you have a problem. They're just Canadians, man.

2 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 5:45 pm

Yeah, this is a year I can't root against the Red Sox.

3 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:15 pm

PRONK!

4 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:18 pm

OT, but it appears they've got the second bastard.

5 randym77   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:19 pm

[2] Same. The city's still shut down. Red Sox and Bruins games cancelled.

6 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:23 pm

Hey, I've been caught up in the local news. [4].
But I've already missed some fireworks, huh?

7 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:25 pm

[6] Apparently there's a body in a boat in a neighborhood, calling in a robot to knock it over.

8 mhoward120   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:26 pm

Lets see here - when was the last time there was extensive TV coverage of a police action?
Gee, guess that would be 1994 - with OJ and the police chase.
The Knicks were up 3-2 in the NBA Finals that year.
Maybe its a good omen for the Knicks this year.

Not to get into 'the News' here, but isn't it pretty stunning how fast and accurately they identified the 2 Boston bombers? I'm amazed.

10 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:30 pm

Dang, just missed getting that run back.

11 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:31 pm

[7] No, I knew that -- I meant I missed baseball fireworks!
Yeah, in a boat, but nobody at any news outlet knows whether this boat is in the water.

12 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:32 pm

Frankie with some power this year.

13 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:33 pm

Who is this Cervelli guy? He looks just like that lame-hitting catcher we used to have.

14 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:33 pm

[11] It's in a backyard, on a trailer.

15 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:35 pm

Why not bat Brains 6th or 7th and Ichiro 9th?
It would be a pisser to see Ichiro and Gritner on the bases at the same time.

16 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:36 pm

[13] He's been seeing ARod's 'therapist'.

17 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:36 pm

[15] Wicked pisser.

Damn Rob, just missed.

18 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:37 pm

[16] Heh. Was just going to make a joke about him spending the winter "working out" down in Miami ...

19 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:38 pm

[19] That was Melky...

20 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:40 pm

Bounce pass?

21 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:42 pm

Pettitte's settled down, looks good now.

22 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:48 pm

Pronk!

23 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:48 pm

Wow.
Cashman is a fucking genius.

24 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 19, 2013 6:48 pm

PRONKPRONK!!

25 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:02 pm

When they came to bat this inning the Jays had a 16% win expectancy. Seems like it should be lower.

Now (end of the third) it's down to 12%. I guess that seems about right.

26 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:03 pm

Man... this teenage Bomber is wounded and surrounded by about a billion cops... but there is a gun fight going on. I don't know if the kid is shooting, or the cops are just laying down cover.

In any event, the kid is toast and should be apprehended before the game is over.

27 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:08 pm

[23] [24] Big balding monsters?

[26] I hope they get him alive; some answers would be welcome.

28 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:18 pm

Golden god.

29 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:22 pm

Good job by Andy.

[27] And no drone strike.

30 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:29 pm

Are Jays' fans incredibly bad at judging fly balls, or do they just really enjoy pop flies?

31 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:30 pm

Very well done, boys.

32 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:34 pm

OVER the wall!

Rocking tonight.

33 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:36 pm

Frankie Fucking Brains, everybody!

34 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:41 pm

Oh well done, little Gritner!

35 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:43 pm

ribbie for Robbie

36 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:44 pm

Yeah.... Hafner has been hitting pretty good so far but...
is he really worth $2m/yr?

37 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:44 pm

Just cruising now.
It would be nice to see Andy go seven, and maybe let a couple mop-up guys finish and give the bullpen studs a rest.

38 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:44 pm

Bastard reportedly in custody

39 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:47 pm

[38] Excellent.

It would have sucked for me if Boston was locked down again tomorrow. Not that my personal convenience is among the biggest considerations here, just sayin'.

40 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:52 pm

Dang.

41 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:53 pm

ATTENTION FBI ... there's ANOTHER bomber on the loose tonight ... yikes, Bautista-boom-boom!

42 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:53 pm

Damn... that was hit a long way!

43 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:54 pm

[39] My mental well being is. Helluva week

RedSox day night DH?
Yup, Bautista will do that.

44 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:55 pm

[38] Far Out!
No more Sweet Caroline for you! (at Yankee Stadium)

45 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 7:57 pm

[44] One team, I forget which, played the Cheers! theme.

(Serious Red Sox fans despise "Sweet Caroline", for those of you who don't live in the area. They think of it as the Pink Hat song.)

46 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:00 pm

Boom! Wells' Bells!

47 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:01 pm

Lulz ... Wells TOTALLY trolling Toronto tonight!

48 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:03 pm

VW; drive one!

49 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:04 pm

Well... tremendous news for Bostonians.
Do you think there will be any drinking tonight in Beantown?

50 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:04 pm

[48] Oh, hey, nice.

51 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:10 pm

smart, Smart, SMART by Andy there ...

52 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:11 pm

Wow, after the crappy hit it was three pitches, three outs!

53 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:12 pm

Wow... talk about doing Andy a favor.
Infield Single, then 3 pitches, 3 outs.

54 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:13 pm

[52] CUT THAT OUT!

55 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:15 pm

[54] I just keep getting faster and faster.
It's like your worst nightmare.

56 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:16 pm

[49] It is great news, and considering a 19(!) year old is in custody we should get a lot of the story. What a tragedy, and thankfully no one else got hurt tonight.

57 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:20 pm

Project donkey?

58 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:21 pm

Dunkey should be reserved for the Knicks or Nets.

59 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:24 pm

Another one-pitch out! Four in a row!

60 monkeypants   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:26 pm

[59] And yet Girardi runs out there to pull him.

BTW, did anyone else notice Hafner grabbing his back after each swing last AB?

61 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:27 pm

I gotta say it; with Youk and Pronk on the team, the Yankees will not be winning the best looking team award this year.

62 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:28 pm
BTW, did anyone else notice Hafner grabbing his back after each swing last AB?
LALALALALALA ... I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!

63 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:28 pm

[60] Good time for him to do it, I say. The game is not in doubt, and we want Pettitte to pitch a lot of important innings this year.

64 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:30 pm

[61] I don't mind winning ugly.

Of course Melky doesn't look the same, no steroids.

65 monkeypants   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:32 pm

[63] Then why have him start the inning? I guess there a matchup or something. Or does he have a 90 pitch limit?

66 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:36 pm

[65] No idea. Probably the match-up, yeah, Joe didn't like to start Kelly off against Kawasaki?

67 monkeypants   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:37 pm

Something funny. Earlier in the game the Jays announcers were comparing Kawasaki's and Ichiro's batting stance and swing, noting the similarities. They concluded, however, that Kawasaki is *more* of a slap hitter than Ichiro. I have no idea if that's true, but the exchange made me laugh.

68 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:40 pm

When the Blue Jays play the Cubs, will Castro subdue Bautista?

69 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:45 pm

[67] I didn't hear that, although I have in fact been listening to them.

[68] Damn, you are in good form tonight, pun-wise.

70 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:45 pm

GET. OUT.

71 RIYank   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:46 pm

Well, that's one. I like this thing where we win every series, let's keep doing that.

72 rbj   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:46 pm

Good night all.

73 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:47 pm

[71] And I like Soothsayers!

More please!!!

74 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:47 pm

[69] That and $60K (that I don't have) will pay for my son's college this September.

75 MSM35   ~  Apr 19, 2013 8:58 pm

Signing Melky has put a curse on the Bluejays. If his last year didn't prove that augmentation works. This one will.
